and in the time it took me to post that Sbob gets in with suggesting criminal damage to a car

No time for that, I’m too busy heading for the chunnel. Gots me a date with a parking space outside a well insulated house in South West France. Toot! Toot! Hope you like DnB!

Ignore the alleged prostitution and drug dealing, having chavs with car stereos at full blast and horns hooting is totally unacceptable and no one suggesting people should live and let live would put up with that outside their home.

I’d be having one polite word then going straight to a spade through the rear windscreen.

Put it on your bucket list and do it one year if you haven’t already.

    I most certainly will.

Used to make bits of LMP cars, think I’ve got a first off gearbox selector shaft paperweight somewhere, that’s a nice shiny lump of steel.

Don’t kid yourself that if the tables were reversed they wouldn’t do it to you.

Nice to hear from several posters that wobbliscott is wrong in this regard. 🙂

Which is why your advice is so arrogantly foolish.

I think the problem for France was that they had some VERY anti-social neighbours in 1939.

Tell me about it; I’m Polish/Dutch!

Only if you don’t know how to behave around dogs

Bit of a logic fail there old chap.

As much as I’d have loved to get off my bike & discuss the matter reasonably with the dog, I think by the time I’d slowed to a stop & actually gotten off it’d have bitten me about 5 times. The owners were about 100 yards away (distance increasing rapidly) waddling after it, so I wasn’t really factoring in a) they being able to get to it & control it or b) being able to get to me to deliver said smack in chops.

That’s odd, it sounds like angeldust’s advice would not have been applicable!

It all depends if you are a man of your word or more akin to something that I need to scrape off the sole of my shoe, with a stick, wearing gloves.

Ever considered how you and your neighbours appear to these people. There you are curtains twitching, crossing the road to complain, calling the police at regular intervals – 7 times in the last month. Maybe it’s living in a place where Vichy informers were detested and grassing people up is viewed as worse than a casual disrespect for authority, but it seems you’re missing an important thing in life. Live and let live.

I’ve lived in interesting places with interesting neighbours, they’re people, human beings, with their own set of joys and misseries. We’ve generally got on just fine. If I become a direct target I react, but if they’re just getting on with what they’re doing with intentionally targetting me then well, that’s just the way they are and getting upset about it is only upsetting me which is pretty daft when I can smile and find it all quite amusing instead.

And another thought, if you felt targetted as they must do, how would you react?

It’s that kind of attitude that led to your country being so easily occupied.

What I am saying is that driving without an MOT does not automatically void your insurance, and have helpfully provided an example to illustrate the fact.

I’ll invoke Russell’s Teapot and invite you to show the legislation from an official government source as a rebuttal.

Now cease misrepresenting me lest I stamp on your toys and call you nasty names.

The info in your links is incorrect Drac, contradicts itself and the info supplied by the gov.uk website. I’m afraid nickjb and jamesoz are correct.

No MOT does not invalidate insurance. If it did you wouldn’t be able to drive your car to get an MOT.

In the event of an accident insurance would still pay up although the value of your car would be lowered without an MOT.

    https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot
    <div class=”application-notice help-notice” role=”note” aria-label=”Help”>

You cannot drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be prosecuted if caught.

    </div>

The only exceptions are to drive it:

    • to or from somewhere to be repaired

    • to a pre-arranged MOT test

For the English surely the bowler hat and umbrella?

Spot on TeeJ, I often sport a bowler.

I am unfortunately barred from carrying an umbrella due to unsolicited poking.

    This rather poor video shows

A cyclist not wearing a helmet!

More importantly it shows a Rover 200 series cabriolet, how old is that clip?

“middle of the road/lane” does not mean

They mean two entirely different things, which is the crux of the misunderstanding and the unwarranted abuse. 💡

nothing to bloody do with riding in the middle of the ‘road’ though.

I find it incredible that I understand this yet the educated STW masses still struggle.

I kind of assumed we were all smart enough to know that no-one was suggesting riding along the cats’ eyes

Then why not just say what you mean?

The middle of your lane is quite different from the middle of the road or carriageway.

It is interesting that such errors in language would normally be pounced on by the pack in an argument, but here they are accepted as they suit the pack’s agenda. Quite a few of you are coming across as arseholes TBH.

Not entirely sure why Sbob keeps spamming car threads

Apologies for “spamming” you with my single, light hearted post.

As it happens I love motors, especially big loud fast interesting ones so I’m not entirely sure why I’m here either.

In answer to your OP; you’re comparing dull cars with other dull cars, so yes they are similarly dull. People pay premiums to keep up with the Joneses because they are also dull, and probably shop in Gap.

    No wallpaper in my house.

When we went through this with Petrol, it never died. In fact here it is making a resurgence.

As long as the desire for personal transportation exists it never will die.

I got the wired AKG Y50 for the other half and was very impressed. I paid £50 at Richer sounds though they are currently showing as £70.

    Eh? which? tell me!

Out of interest, was that the mileage you were doing when you got the car?

I only ask as that is way under the threshold for making a diesel financially viable over a petrol, long term.

Never understood why people are that bothered about what the inside of their cars look like. As long as they are functional hopefully you’ll be looking out the windows than at the inside!
