I’d happily pay more tax if it was used to reduce inequality

Reduce inequality by simply giving me a bike!
I know where you live, just tell me when to pop over. 😀

I don’t know of a single person who’d turn away the opportunity to pay less tax legally. I certainly wouldn’t.

You should check out some of the political threads, there are plenty of prolific posters that are totally against it.

As I understand it Buzz, trespass is a tort, ie there is no criminal intent, just recompense for your loss, if your telly blows up and scorches your wall, you’re going to ask for that to be repaired and as well as the telly replacing, although there was no intent for the telly to explode and damage your wall ( you’ve still been wronged)

Trespass is the same, by coming into my land you damaged it in a way that I want recompense from you ( is how the law goes) the fact that you’re on a bike is largely irrelevant.

There is no damage element to the offence of trespass.
If there is damage then the offence is aggravated trespass, which is a criminal matter.

Virgin 30Mb and phoneline + lovefilm is £30 a month.

That’s the average monthly cost over the 18 months contract.

What’s your opinion on the above video? Apparently, it was the car driver at fault, despite following the “I don’t have to indicate if I am not coming off rule!”

That’s not applicable to the video if the car was in the turn left only lane, in which case it was entirely the car driver’s fault, although at the same time entirely avoidable by the lorry driver.

Did you read what I said!
I NEVER said anywhere that I would be in the RH/inside lane, I said I would be in the outside lane, there is NO empty lane for someone to pull into, I am in it.

So you wouldn’t be indicating right if you were in the centre or right hand lane (for example if the left lane was turn left only)?

I would’ve indicated right to show I wasn’t coming off at the first exit, but then when I passed the first exit, I would’ve indicated left.

Meanwhile, the chap who is waiting at the first exit, wishing to take the second, pulls out because you’ve told him you’re turning right, not that you intend to take the same exit as him. 💡

Your method is a very bad idea and there are reasons why nobody teaches it.

If you’re in the outside lane and you’re going to be passing exits but not taking them, why not just put your right indicator on to let people know!

Because you might get a driver ahead pulling out onto the roundabout to take their next exit, thinking you are going to continue around the roundabout when you’re not.
This is extremely bad practise, and I have witnessed it a few times despite never having coming across anywhere this is taught. 💡

Whatever makes you feel clever and better.

What makes me feel “clever and better” is improving my driving, which I strive to do continuously.

    Why don’t you try it?
    Serious question.

Consensus seems to be that I underestimated his speed/acceleration – which is fair enough.

    Yep.
Learn, move on, end thread. 🙂

I’m kidding, I can sense molly keeping this alive for some time. 😆

Couple of serious points though (not aimed specifically at the OP):

    1) Trying to apportion any blame to the motorcyclist is entirely counter productive. The only thing the driver is in control of is his car. You can’t control the biker whether his riding is good or bad, so look what you as the driver can do to make sure this doesn’t happen again, because that’s all you can do.

    2) Worrying couple of posts that suggest it’s ok to increase risk to save any impact on your journey time, especially on a cycling forum!

With the first link, try stopping (if you have to) before the give way lines onto the r’about, it will give you a much longer sight line to traffic approaching from your right so you won’t need to pull out infront of anyone who you may have not seen.

The second link you can see for miles, so not sure what the problem is?

He may also have been going fast. There’s a similar roundabout near me where people hoon around it which gives you basically no time to pull out. So you floor it when you can and they have to brake, and give you all sorts of aggro. Well, if you weren’t going so bloody fast there wouldn’t be an issue.

That situation (not yours necessarily) is an example of aggressive driving and speed forcing other people to be technically in the wrong without it actually being their fault.

    Oh really?
    Let’s have a link to this r’about then… 🙂

“Are you saying the biker took the 1st exit?”

Yep – he took 1st exit (from my perspective – probably “straight on” from his)

Then from the distance involved (you joining the r’about to him exiting) you definitely pulled out in front of him.

Maybe you dithered a little, or “did a molgrips” as we like to say in these parts?

Food doctor lentil, tomato and quinoa packet soup with a dash of chilli. Only 100 calories but makes a big thick mug full and has no corn starch, MSG or other crap in it.

In my perceived spirit of the thread, Dad.

A kinder, more thoughtful and calm gentleman you could not wish to meet, with no visible issues to this day that could make me do anything other than aspire to be anywhere close to his character. Not an inch of ego, bravado, or desire for anything other than the happiness of his family.

..but I once witnessed him confront someone who nipped in and robbed a parking space he was about to reverse into.

Holy crap – what an insight that was.

Y’alright Bruv, what you doing on a cycling forum? 😉

I’ve got a large torque wrench which I bought to make sure my crank bolts were tight enough as I’d seen no end of square taper cranks get binned because the bolt became loose.

Never felt the need to use one for anything else on the bike, and never had any problems.

And I don’t think you can realistically slam on the brakes every time a large vehicle overtakes. The time between it turning from a good overtake to a deadly one is a matter of a second or two.

You can see the opposing car from about 10 secs into the video, the cyclist almost gets squished about 8-9 seconds later.
Even if the cyclist had headphones blasting and hadn’t looked to see the lorry coming up, he still had at least four seconds where he could have slowed.
That’s a lot of time to react.
It’s unfortunate he didn’t read the situation better, and extremely fortunate that the lorry driver didn’t kill him.
He needs to lose his licence.

I too have been missing out of these taxpayer funded staff parties.

Details please sbob so I can complain to my managers.

I can’t give details for obvious reasons, but suffice to say there are a few people who are in for a lot of trouble.

I assume you are a fellow NHS employee given that you know the costs of treatments.

Nope, they were the figures quoted to the person I know who is in need of an op.

The amount of waste in the NHS is shocking.
I know of a chap who needs a £5,000 operation but the NHS can’t afford to pay for it.
They can afford though to pay over £20,000 (and rising) to relieve his pain on a regular basis, which the operation would alleviate. 🙄

Don’t get me started on their taxpayer funded staff parties… 👿
