Could be a good time to buy a G6 – single Sim £199 on Amazon currently.

Dual sim available from John Lewis for the same.

Quite happy with mine, though as my first smartphone I have little to compare with. Battery life is better than I had expected and it charges very quickly compared with my friend’s phones.

The extra cost of the hops

Hops are a fixed price, and Yakima valley are churning out plenty. My tied gaff sells pints for upto £5,20 but that reflects our extortionate rent in one of the most desirable parts of the UK. Our cheapest untied pint is £3.40. Don’t be mugged off!

Looks like a consensus around a far east tin can – slightly depressing, but beggars can’t be choosers!

Cars are just places to temporarily sit. Nothing depressing about not wasting your money on something you don’t need. :)

    Nippy just means slow.

    100Hp is less than a 26yr old Rover 214.

55mpg is achievable in the above, except the Rover provides much greater comfort.

Shit cars all in all. :)

    1984.

    It’s **** horrible.

    Brilliant, but horrible.

One flew over the cuckoo’s nest is an excellent counterpoint.

Don’t ever want to see/read either ever again.

    I want malty, caramel sweetness

We’re selling Grainstore’s Nip at the moment which should be up your street, but at 7.3% it’s probably too strong for someone old enough to insist on referring to a beer as “80/”, eh Grandad? :)

Just sell them and buy android devices that just work, then you can blow the profits on coke and hookers. Win win!

Well, all the kids that I employ tell me that my new G6 is either lit or peng. Both of which I am assured are good. Happy days!

The best way to find out your pornstar name is to:

1: Take your mother’s first name then

2:  take your mother’s surname, because your mother is a slut.

That’s just what they want you to believe. I’ve been to Japan, you can’t take two steps without tripping over a child or a pregnant woman.

And I’ve been to Italy and had a lot of unprotected sex with a lot of Catholic women…

I’m envious of no man. :)

Mind you, I do live in Grantchester which has to be one of the more affluent parts of the country.

Must admit I have nought but butter with my bacon sarnies. Unless I’m at work then the chef will do me a BLT brioche with foraged ramson aioli. Normally against the over fashionable brioche but it does work.

Let’s not forget the reduction in availability of housing. Blame anyone with more than two kids if worried about blaming immigrants. :D

But if you are the 2+2 family with one earner then sorry, but that isn’t a lot to live on.

Not if you’re expecting to live the kind of lifestyle that most STWers obviously feel entitled to, but plenty of people do manage it on less (having a family, not ticking an Audi estate and spending £7k on summer hols).

You should feel my pain; a quick google only brings up one house for sale in my village and that’s up for £2,500,000.

Are we to assume then that you pay at least 9% extra in tax each year as it is, to use your phrase, a pittance?

I tell you what, you give me your bank details and I will transfer to you directly 9% of what I earn, *over the threshold, and you can do whatever you like with it.

*don’t go trying to move the goalposts on me sonny Jim. ;)

Take out £1000 for mortgage and utility bills and you are left with £1500pcm for living..

There are people who have less than that to live on including housing costs FFS!

    What’s a square sausage?

It’s a bit of a misnomer as it isn’t a sausage at all, more a sort of minced pork burger, but square instead of round.

A proper Glasgow chippy wouldn’t be offering sauce at all.

Its rare that ketchup is the right choice. Sauce should be brown and spicy nae sweet tomato shite.

I’m not surprised that they enjoy good old Houses of Parliament sauce in that there Glasgow, they are all terribly British that way.

    £187 a month on £50k.

You couldn’t even tick an Audi A1 for that.

9% of income, above a threshold, is a fair amount.

It is a pittance and would leave any 40% earner ample to live an extremely comfortable life.

Plenty of my young colleagues are in that tax bracket but have to repay a lot of student loans so they don’t have large disposable incomes.

    Bollocks.

Repaying student loans costs **** all. Choosing to live in a nice big house with a brand new car on tick costs money.

They certainly don’t own multiple properties.

You should start up a justgiving campaign.

Main requirement is low total cost of ownership

Mass produced Japanese is your answer, but condition is key at your budget. Swindon built Hondas were the most reliable a few years ago.

To the person who thinks that anyone in the 40% tax bracket has enough money already, I can confirm that that is not true.

I’m drowning in the excess sense of entitlement. I’d enjoy it if it wasn’t so bitter.

Good logic as well, that we should all earn more than average.

If anyone wants to pay HMRC more money, I assure you they will accept it. No one will though, because reasons, excuses and the equivalent of “I’m not racist but…”.

All boils down to greed, basically.

They help to keep dowm Aphids . The same Aphids that attack hop plants . So , unfortunatly more wasps = more hops = better beer

That’s good to hear as I never wanted to be a smart phone **** but work are forcing me into ownership, and I miss my old RAZR so am a little bit brand loyal.

Just dropped to £199.99 at John Lewis, which is nice as it means I won’t have to mix with the proles at Argos.

Will be nice to have a camera again.

I’m in the market for my first ever smart phone, and after extensive research I’m going to go with the Moto G6 as the camera looks like a smiley face.

    I do hope this helps.

St. Ives is a nice town, not too big; always near to fields. |Closer to the city Grantchester is lovely, though has no shops and is very spendy.

Avoid Huntingdon, Bar Hill and the Arbury area of Cambridge. Aforementioned Ely isn’t bad.

    All depends on budget. :)

ETA: born on Mill Rd Cambridge and grew up in St. Ives, so feel free to be specific with your questions. :)
