Yup tried that one too. Wound it all the way out and all the way in again but no joy.

Yes they do look quite different. It’s got a hex but that’s just below the main wide bit. I’m thinking that the description on wiggle was wrong and thus would only be appropriate for the bleeding edge port on the recent sram brakes. Fortunately I’ve got guides so it’s not a totally wasted purchase, but obviously doesn’t solve my immediate problem!

Follow up question is whether riding with a post that needs bleeding will do lasting damage to the seals? Or just be a bit of a nuisance?

Cheers all. Checked the air pressure and it was below 250, pumped it up but still the same issue. Loosened the seat collar and then retightened (next purchase is a torque wrench!) but seems to make no difference.

That pic is useful, they aren’t close up enough online. The fitting in that bleeding edge kit from wiggle is much narrower and about half a cm shorter.

Can’t post photos, but heres a link to my Google album. Shows length of nipple and then how it won’t fit into the bleed screw. https://photos.app.goo.gl/WuCCmkTwqUsu7df1A

Cheers @nickdavies. I was wondering if I’m asking the wrong questions, so that’s very helpful to have that cleared up! Our current home insurance (AA) is underwritten by AXA I believe, but might not be sure (I’m not an expert as you can tell!). Should’ve planned this better as our home renewal was just over a month ago, but impulsive van purchasing waits for no man.

Those are top notch! I vaguely look like I know what I’m doing.

Had a great day out! Did the 130 in 7:26 which given the conditions and the training volume (ahem) I was pleased with.

My first attempt at tubeless (Nanos at ~35 PSI) held up spectacularly well. Although I did lose my biggest gear which made climbing somewhat challenging.

Really impressed at the organisation of the whole event. The Mrs and I thoroughly enjoyed lounging in the sun afterwards and cheering riders up the hill (complete with cowbell!) once I’d done.

Definitely keen to come back next year and possibly attempt the 200k.

Conveniently up in Kielder for Dirty Reiver, wonder if we’ll see it! 😀

Argh! Nothing like an emergency rear hub replacement (by the lbs thank goodness) to help with last minute preparations…

Wrestled (successfully) with tubeless conversion last weekend. Also fitted new bars so I can actually brake whilst on the drops (I have teeny tiny hands).

Very glad I went for the 130 given how much the weather has played havoc with any “proper” training i vaguely had planned! Have managed a couple of long road rides with plenty of climbing in the past few months. But I do have firm faith utilising the tactic of “eating my way round at a pleasant but not slow pace” at least!

FYI (mostly my own) you can’t inflate them properly without sealant. But they are holding pressure now with sealant. Hopefully tomorrow morning it’ll be the same!

Thanks jekkyl, I figured that the standard STW response of “it depends” might well be the case! 😀

If I didn’t have to commute on it too I wouldn’t be asking. I guess if I try it today I can revert it tomorrow if they deflate overnight. To that end can I get away with converting the rims and sticking tyres on without sealant to see if they stay up? Or is that a follow up foolish query?

First time for me too. “Just” the 130km to ease into it though!

I’ll be on my CX bike with 40C nanos. Need to convert them to tubeless though… I’d also like to stick a wide range cassette on as I’m currently running 11-36 with a 32t single ring up front.

I’m very excited (on the proviso it doesn’t chuck it down); I’ve wanted to do some proper gravel grinding for ages.

Yes rain doesn’t bare thinking about…

I think I’d be aiming for between 7-8 hours for the 130. I’ve not ridden that far off road before so it’ll be a bit of an unknown unless I manage to practice it specifically.

    Cheers jonnyboi!

Tubeless is definitely on my list. I’ve got WTB Nano 40cs which I believe should be fine with some tape and sealant (etc).

Based in Yorkshire. Love a hill or two.

Wider range cassette has been on my “to buy” list for a while. A perfect excuse.

I shall commence training on enjoying the feed stations immediately. ;)

I had considered, but I think mentally I’d cope better with aiming to “complete” the 130 as opposed to having the big target of 200 and feeling like I’d “failed” by stopping out at the 130.

Ooh thought entries wouldn’t open until next week.

Going to be my first time doing it so “just” the 130 for me. Will be hankering for tips (training and kit) if anyone wants to share some hard won wisdom!

PECO XC series this winter and then Temple Newsam Ten are next on my calendar.

I’d love to have a go at a duathalon, but don’t really fancy any of the road based ones. Kielder RBR looks bood, but if anyone’s got other (Northern) suggestions that would be fab!

Another vote for the Rad8s. They’ve been perfect the past few weeks for commuting and road riding in the evening. Also wore them yesterday on the MTB and they were fine for the bit of sun i got in the Peaks.

In the great STW tradition in recommend what you own; I’ve got some of these for my cross bike that’s running 700x40c tyres. They were a bit of a squeeze to fit, but they work fine for commuting purposes.

I work in a clinical genetics department (as the hopefully skilled, but could be more handsomely paid, bioinformatician) and we only really test for Mendelian diseases rather than additive effects (what JackHammer is describing). Whilst the technology to identify changes is pretty good, the interpretation is still very challenging.

Something like the 100k Genomes will hopefully marry up the scale of technology and analysis in the mid term future.

A very good overview of what genetic testing means from a personal health perspective is given in this blog post for those that are interested.

And 23andMe are best avoided when it comes to healthcare claims as they aren’t certified to make any!

We live pretty much in the city centre.

Riding from the door isn’t too bad all things considered. Out west along the canal to get to more interesting spots (35 mins to Calvery, 1 hr to Bingley, Baildon etc). Or a short drive up towards Harewood for some alternatives.

The city itself is great. Loads going on, great indie food scene, music is probably pretty good too. The Uni campus is nice for a city centre one and only ~15/20 min walk from the station.

We use Perl/Python for all our NGS bioinformatics rather than R. Its a painful language.

Sounds like you need to set some hard memory limits or stream the data?

This looked a useful link from the R docs.

I assume they’ve looked on the font of all knowledge that is StackOverflow as well?

Just done a long weekend there!

Fantastic place. We did most of the standard touristy things as it was relatively easy: Northern lights, Golden Circle, South Shore, Blue lagoon. I’d say you don’t need to do blue lagoon (its very expensive for a warm bath) but the others were really good. Lots of very pretty places and even just driving throug the landscape is pretty mesmerising.

You won’t need more than a day (afternoon really) to look round Reykjavik itself. Nothing wrong with it, just not much there.

Icelanders really like hotdogs so there’s a few cheap and cheerful and some “gourmet” places around. If you do any day trips probably best to take at least a snack as there’s not many opportunities to eat (cheaply) out in the “wilderness”. The classic stock up during buffet breakfast is well recommended.

Have you tried GhostRacer? Uses the watch’s in built GPS so you can record without the phone. I picked one up for running a little while ago and its been super. Also syncs easily with Strava.

How so? Genuine question, I thought DNA/genes were pretty much fixed for life – you inherit a set from your parents and other than some random mutations from chemicals / radiation / virus etc. in a small number of cells, you keep the same set throughout.

I know you can change how the genes are expressed / which ones are active etc. but I didn’t think you’d see a change in the DNA

A non-inherited (somatic) change is unlikely to be seen unless it causes a real problem (ie cancers). Epigenetic factors and the transcriptome might be more likely. There’s a bit of evidence linking EPO to epigenetics in cancers linko, but a quick google doesn’t give much more that would be relevant to sporting use.

Hmm looking in the manual wasn’t that enlightening, although it suggests you don’t need to hold the button down when lifting the handbrake. Every day’s a school day! A few ups and downs the proper by the manual way seems to have brought the button out a bit though.

No worries, I was also being a tad childish!

I can save you time by saying the first three results pages of “handbrake button stuck” haven’t helped me in any way.
