Does this mean that it’s acceptable for public sector to waste money?

No. It means the claim that the private sector is inherently more efficient than the public sector, or vice-versa, is wrong.

…I’m not sure about plastic bags, but they could save themselves some printing costs on their letterheads by changing their name to the shorter and more appropriate “The ****s”.

How about Coalition Of Wealthy People Against Tax.

Any thoughts on splitting education and work/industry experience as opposed to putting the whole lot in chronological order? The former looks a bit nicer as it splits up the CV, but the latter means the most relevant/advanced qualifications and experiences will be at the start of the CV.

The main advantage to a franchise (and it’s not to be sneezed at imo) is the brand. Don’t under-estimate the value of brand recognition in some markets.

The big brand owners definitely won’t underestimate their brand, and will charge their francisees accordingly. Higher revenue doesn’t automatically mean higher profits for you.

I won a Radio 1 t-shirt (too big). Another time I won a Radio 1 hoodie (too small). Can’t remember how or why, it was probably one of those “enter your details on this website” competitions.

The problem isn’t that of a pram taking up bike space, it’s of generic unreasonable moronic passengers of any type being unreasonable and moronic.

So, would that apply to a banker’s bonus as well?

Yes, indeed it would. Except that if investment bankers go on strike I don’t think anyone would notice (or care).

Put a claim in to the Post Office, don’t mention the wrong address because it’s irrelevant as it hasn’t been delivered to the address on the package (unless the recipient is lying, but then that could occur even if it was correctly addressed).

if there was a salary cap of 150k pa for all public service roles all the monies left over could be used to employ thousands at 20k pa enhanced public services

On one condition- the 150k cap also applies to anyone in the private sector involved in supplying public services, including the CEO.

We need to recognise that manufacturing is the foundation that other commerce can be built on

I’d put innovation ahead of manufacturing. Unless it’s a technically complex product someone else will be able to manufacture it more cheaply, but if you’re good at designing and innovating you’ll have the lead (and the option to choose where you want it to be manufactured). We should also be less negative about everything.

The trouble in this situation is Cameron gave Hunt the job of overseeing the BSkyB deal. It will reflect poorly on DC to sack Hunt.

It reflects badly on him whatever he does, don’t forget Hunt only came in after Vince Cable was ditched for supposedly being biased against the takeover.

Central London is well within that range, plenty of bike shops (e.g. main chains like Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery in Spitalfields, On Your Bike at London Bridge, loads of independents).

Apple has now seen it’s first ‘large scale’ ‘virus’ and patches are now out (I think)

What was that? There was a theoretical text message attack in 2009 but a google for “iPhone virus” doesn’t show anything newer.
I think he meant the Apple Mac[/url], which up to now has been seen as fairly immune along with Linux, partly due to the system design and partly because they weren’t popular enough to be worth writing viruses for.

If you don’t want a full contract how about a 30 day sim-only one? Rolls over every month, 30 days notice to cancel. I’m paying £8.52/month 100 mins 100 texts and 1GB (I think) data, though that was on a special offer.

I haven’t seen the Exped ones, but with the Airlok XTra you just keep rolling the top down over and over as long as you squeeze the air out properly. Alternatively just flatten it out and wrap it around itself.

Nooooooo! We’ve tried that before somewhere on here, most recently the Angry atheists thread… turns out you can’t prove or disprove God.

Nor can you prove/disprove the existence of 5 headed invisible unicorns.

I can guarante that money spent on fuel duty for the fleet comes from our overall budget and if we didn’t spend it on duty it would still be there to invest in fleet kit etc.

But if you didn’t have to pay for duty your budget would be cut.

I rode Sustrans route 47 from Swansea to Pontypridd in a day- there’s a few photos here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/manicstreetpreacher/sets/72157624036776395/

It was my first time bike touring- I went on to Cardiff, then did the Taff Trail up to Brecon, Abergavenny, Hay-on-Wye, down to Bristol/Bath and then home to Oxford :)

PS. Make sure you get a bike reservation, some companies refuse to take bikes without one at peak times.

Network Rail, which runs Waverley, said it was the last major station to still allow cars underneath the station roof.

Doesn’t Birmingham New Street allow people to park under the station canopy, with a couple of token cycle stands shoved in somewhere?

Imagine pedaling forwards. The direction the pedals turn relative to the crank arms is the direction you turn them to loosen them.

Ha ha !! We are back around to my original hypothesis – ginormous academic ego.

At least it’s only an essay. Imagine if you submitted a journal article and one of the reviewers rejected it because you didn’t cite their paper.

That’s Barry Mason, former chair of Southwark Cyclists (did a lot to promote cycling in London) and organiser of the Dunwich Dynamo. Sadly died last year on Holiday in Spain :(
