Learn to unicycle, dress up as a shark, and hand out flowers and chocolate brownies to everyone you pass. If that doesn't get her attention nothing will.

Have you tried Display Settings in control panel (or right click on the desktop), to change the screen resolution? Or play around with the buttons on the monitor.

Don't force yourself to take up photography as a hobby. Just get a basic camera (you've probably already got one), take photos of random things- you'd be surprised what you can do with even a fairly basic compact camera. Make a note of all the things you wish your camera could do. Then when it's long enough and you know you really really want an DSLR go and get one :).

+1 for Danywenallt. People who run it are really friendly, it tends to fill up at weekends though and there's no self-catering facilities apart from a sink and fridge. Remote enough that you're not going to get anything nicked.

If I can force myself to leave the house I'll be doing this on my MTB (haven't got a road bike so it'll have to do).

CTC, British Cycling, some local groups such as the London Cycling Campaign. I'm with the CTC, never had to use them but it's nice to have piece of mind and they have a legal advice service too if you need to claim against someone. I'm not sure whether competitive cycling is included though.

I've got the same problem, I reckon it's temperature related. Undoing and doing up the clamp again gets rid of the creak until the sun comes/goes.

There's a Sustrans route all the way if you want a quiet route
    http://www.sustrans.org.uk/sustrans-near-you/south-west/easy-rides-in-the-south-west/kennet-and-avon-cycle-route

It reckons 10.5 hours Bath-Reading, assuming you're reasonably fit you could probably do Bristol-Reading in 10, depending on how many walkers are in the way.

Perhaps somebody can explain why … drivers dont need to be trained and rtested by their companies to be proved competent at driving

Seeing as ~3000 people a year die on the roads maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea. I think a few cycling organisations have suggested H&S law for commercial vehicles should be extended beyond a workplace- so if someone gets killed by a skip lorry it'd be treated as a workplace incident and not just a road "accident".

Yeah, who would ever buy those isotonically optimised hydro-electrolytically balanced proven-to-increase-recovery-times sports supplements :-)

What kind of bike polo- grass or hardcourt (tarmac)? If it's grass theres loads of rules about priority, passing etc, the hardcourt version is a bit simpler:
    * Can't put your foot down (or you have to tap a "penalty spot" on the edge of the middle of the court)
    * Only score by hitting the ball with the small end of the mallet
    * Don't be a dick (riding at full speed into someone is generally a bad idea)

Though if you've never played before there's nothing to stop you playing hardcourt rules on grass so it hurts less when you fall off. Any bike will do, doesn't have to be fixed, goals can be traffic cones or whatever comes to hand.

Yes. It's fun and you get to laugh at all the drivers stuck in the snow.

Inform the police anyway, so it gets added to the stats on cyclists' safety.

I think roper was making a fair point albeit without knowing all your facts.
I completely agree that you should go for compo if you have lost money/work, bike repairs etc but there really does seem to be a "if there is blame/make a claim" culture taking hold which i am against completely.

If as usual the police don't prosecute then unfortunately a compensation claim is the only way of making the point that they were driving without sufficient care. Give the compensation to a charity campaigning for safer roads if you don't want it.

I wouldn't worry about her counter-claiming, can't see what her grounds would be. Make sure you've reported the collision to the police and get a ref number, and see a doctor ASAP for a medical report if you haven't already as you'll need it for any compensation claims. If you're a member of a cycling organisation/club such as the CTC you can get legal advice from http://www.rjw.co.uk/ctc/ctc-accident-line , they're meant to be very cyclist friendly so even if you're not a member it might be worth considering them. Get your local bike shop to check the bike for hidden damage, and keep receipts for any expenses you incur (e.g. public transport fares), records of time off work, etc.
