Hello,
I can’t run a singlespeed, have a recurring leg issue, I need gears to spin the pedals.
I’m tempted to look at an Epic or similar, but as it’s purely a winter commuter I was more inclined to buy cheap and not worry too much.I rode the S-works last winter, but the state of the fork, and shock, internals when i stripped them..!
This year i’ll leave it nice and snug! Thanks for the help
sarellFree MemberI didn’t realise the new bikes were only £700odd, i can get a pair of forks for it.
I have thought of the gravel bike, but still want to play off piste through the woods, plus i don’t get on with drop bars!I have looked for a decent XC bike, but not sure on what’s a decent hardtail now.
I also thought of building my own steel frame, but at the prices they are, might as well buy onethanks for the replies
sarellFree MemberNow then,
Apologies for reviving with a daft question.
Where do I find the ‘new’ airshaft versions of the 140mm extender?I don’t know what the old looked like and no idea what i’m going to end up with
Thanks
sarellFree MemberGood Call @Trailwagger
With the events been cancelled, it’s probably scratched the motivation, didn’t put that together
Just wallowed in my ‘woe is me’though I’m trying to talk the wife in to understanding why I need a new superbike, so I won’t be eluding to this for a month or two with her!!
Club idea stems from thinking we need a local shop with people in there that ride, but with the online market there’s no way I’d open another bike shop – hence the club idea.
I have a unit I could turn in to a MTB crash site for locals to rock up, repair bikes meet riders and offer support etc, summer ain’t here yet, so you never know!!Have a good day
sarellFree MemberI’ve been off it a week and doing more weights sessions, but I feel like i’m cheating myself not wanting to ride.
I’ve the gearbox to rebuild on the enduro bike, so a few trips on the motorbike might help.
I did 2500 miles last year, and want to do the same/ beat that this year.I also keep thinking of trying to build a local club – somewhere MTBers can meet, chat, swap routes and plan ride outs – like a Thursday night a week, guess I just need to start that one!
I’ll see how this week goes, just to break the day i’m thinking of a ride today, but I know i’ll just get on it and pedal, kind of feel I need to enjoy it more!!
All the best
sarellFree MemberI can do it Monday for you, though i’ll need a prompt to remember.
I’ll put it in CAD and send it for cuttingAll the best
sarellFree MemberI will do pal.
Thanks for the suggestions everyoneAll the best

sarellFree Membernot sure.
How would I know?Just checked, not the boost
the stations are marked with 130mm and 140mmNo other markings on stations
Sticker on legs say
RCT3 – 130mm – Debonair SpringMany thanks
sarellFree Memberok, so looking in to it
Is this the upgrade debonair part for the left leg??
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.RockShox-Air-Spring-Upgrade-Kit-DebonAir-Pike_124946.htm?sku=491756&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google_shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwm9D0BRCMARIsAIfvfIYypZEKJx8Yv07nlrRAPIR5QnaKP5-hO2SkuDSsiTag4nwg760g9HAaAjRGEALw_wcB#It seems a cheap upgrade.
Also, where is the spacer to extend to 140mm travel??
Thanks
sarellFree MemberHey guys,
Thanks for the advice.
These are 2017 forks. The forks sticker says ‘debonair’ and ‘spring’ underneath it.
There’s nowt wrong with them, just been serviced and ride lovely – but an extra 10mm wouldn’t hurt.
(the wife did say that it may sound small but it makes a difference – with a kind of blank look on her face!)I’ll have to spend more time looking in to your advice.
I hope you’re all well
Elliott
sarellFree MemberIt’s all so surreal.
Mums Husband died of it last week.Same thing, got too much at home went on to a ventilator and then in to an induced acoma and he never came out.
it’s heart braking they died alone, it’s just not right.I hope you’re ok pal, feel free to message if you need owt.
All the best
sarellFree MemberI used Uber bikes for Shimano replacement pads.
They have a load of options and the pads work well.I’ve just fit the spare set on the front, i’ll be re-ordering from them again.
I hope it helps
sarellFree MemberAwesome,
thanks for the replies. Will look in to it – though realised I need fork oil, so will be a few days till I get to it!
All the best
sarellFree MemberHi pal
Thanks for the reply
I was under the impression it has a ‘spacer’ not allowing it to fully extend
– this is what I took from a conversation with shop that recently serviced themThe right station has the markings on the leg to lift it.
if I can i’ll open it up today after a ride.
Where can I find the air spring also?!?
Many thanks
sarellFree Memberoh ok,
just remember to press the disconnect button.I watched the local bike shop sweat for 30mins after servicing the bike and just pulled the cable out the bike – and then it wouldn’t turn on!
We managed to get it back on the PC eventually and then reset the bike and DISCONNECTED it.All’s good now!
sarellFree MemberAs above,
Use an allen key as a punch to tap it out (insert Happy Gilmore scene)I’d then coil a cloth around an allen key and give internal face of hub a good clean.
Hope all’s well
sarellFree Membernow then.
I did this on the MTB.
Turned down the e bike settings across all stages to give me little assistance and most mileage.you can tune a lot to really sort your ride the way you want it.
Just remember
1 – STORE your new BT code
2 – make sure you disconnect from the bike – IMPORTANT
3 – delete the Bluetooth setting on your phone as it’s stored under the old code4 – resign in with the new code
this should stop any headaches going forwards
All the best
sarellFree Membernow then,
I’m tempted to do the Grizedale loop from ‘Decembers Classic Ride’ route.
Anyone fancy meeting for a spin??Hope all’s well
sarellFree MemberI fancy getting to a few events.
More to meet people than race, I don’t know anyone who MTB’s!!Used to do a lot of XC racing in UK + Europe, but just fancy doing some events for the technical fun.
I’m Leeds based but happy to travel if the events are worth it.
Whats a good one to look at?
I managed to get a ticket for the Ard Dales already. All the best
sarellFree MemberLook at Tuff Trek roof tents.
I have one on the disco 2 – takes 5 mins to set up and take downYou leave your gear in the disco sleep on the roof!
Hope alls well
sarellFree Memberhi pal,
Power bank…… I was wondering what to do with the spout – I could sink a USB fitment in there with the power nuzzled away – Thanks
but I don’t drink, though a chocolate milk holder I could see coming
Thanks for the ideas
sarellFree MemberYEP!!!
Edging pipe is curled next to it on the floor!First aid kit is a good call!
ThankssarellFree MemberI’m in Crossgates
Area developing hugely, 5 mins from J46 of M1 and 5 miles from Leeds ctr.
Direct train to LDS centre take all of 7 minsJump on the bike and within 10 mins you’re in the fields or on the canal.
Parents and brother live in Harrogate, nice town but not my cup of tea!
Good luck with the move
sarellFree MemberI went in the middle of the rains and was fairly decent, only one section closed off to puddling.
worst case you’re gonna get muddy!sarellFree MemberMorning,
i was there about 3 weeks ago.
Was good riding, some sections with a fair few brake bumps, but i’d softened my tyres and suspension to enjoy it a bit more!
A few sections were closed for work and through boggingOther than that was a good spin.
sarellFree MemberMorning Pal
I had 2.
One at 28yrs old one at 32yrs old.
A lot of stress – I built a company and had 70 staff at 28, my daughter died and I gave up on me and buried my head in work.Stop, reflect, cut out things and people you don’t need – take off unneeded burdens you’re carrying and engage in you.
try yoga – light weights and reading (the Chimp paradox and The power of Now hugely helped me)
Don’t listen to your mind, it’s destructive, in times of anxiety breathe – in for 4secs out for 6 secs (rpt 10 times)Hope you recover well pal
sarellFree Memberbuild it!
Buy the parts, over all it’s slightly less but it’s irrelevant when the bikes finished exactly how you want it.Tools – I have plenty if you’re local – you can work in the shed too if it helps you (leeds)
if not lets start a tool library – I’ll ship them to youStand, nah – kitchen table is good enough!
Look forward to the build thread
sarellFree Memberwhat about the media energy usage, drivers getting there, fans getting there, vehicles getting there, training, testing and development, prototypes, body panels, shipping raw materials, tyres used and on and on.
So much more to it than just the engine.
We could do so much more to combat it than just pointing the finger at the masses
sarellFree MemberIs it not a case of;
If they don’t make it, we won’t buy it.
Want to make a difference to global warming, stop the F1, Moto gp, WRC, Touring Cars, Americas cup, Concerts, Summits, flying abroard etc, or just anything where people have to travel to them, consume power, create things to be used, tested, obliterated or just binned.
The energy market is facing a huge issue of recycling fibreglass turbine blades from the electric windmills, they have a 15-20yr lifecycle which is approaching and we’re seeing a fibreglass graveyard appear with no major recycling firm doing anything about it because it isn’t cost effective, why would a green energy market not look in to the green element of it’s products, or generate a recycling platform it knew was coming to bite it on the ass?!?!
We’re led by double standards of –
“We made it for you, and you used it, you naughty person you!”All the best
sarellFree MemberI can’t ride it – no e-bikes!
I will marshall though if needed. All the best
sarellFree Memberput in to ebay what you’re after and save the search.
They then give you a nudge when items, or similar are listedWhat you after??
sarellFree MemberAmazing for the sole and to re-invent your regular route!
Keep it up – and your phone with you just incasesarellFree MemberNow then,
Thanks for the replies.
I’ll be getting some routes in on weekends before this – i’m terrible over jumps/ drops!
If you fancy a spin and brew after it’d be good to meet a few people prior. All the best
sarellFree MemberIan,
Thanks for the reply.
I’ve just stripped the forks for a service and grips have been replaced as last set wore out.Though it doesn’t need owt – i’ll leave it for now.
But I have decided to make a tool box from a jerry can – it’s a new one I’ve not usedI’ll build it to hold;
Allen Keys
Torx Keys
Tubeless repair kit
Gas Canisters – and adpater
Shock Pump
Chain lube
GT85
Spare Pads
Chain linksI think it should be the gear for a weekend away
Thanks guys
PS – if i’m building one happy to build more!
sarellFree MemberDon’t be soft. Do you also fill your car boot with bags of cement to make it work harder?
If I had an e-bike I’d be doing burnouts everywhere.Yeah I get what you mean.
But it’s the legs that have to work harder and I do seem to like to punish myself!sarellFree MemberMorning,
Thanks for the replies.
And also confirming what I think I already knew, I guess the reason I asked is because I don’t need owt!Unfortunately I need an e-bike, a crash a long time ago has torn the muscles in me nuts – it is bloody painful if I ride a standard MTB
Though I have turned down the eco setting to be practically no support – but it gives enough to stop me nuts bleeding.
On a hill with a 24kg e-bike I am sometimes tempted to put it in trail mode – but then I wouldn’t feel like i’d earnt the descent! Thanks for the replies and confirming what I kind of thought too!
All the best
