Midweek Mtb Madness races during May/June are held around Manchester/Bolton area and are pretty popular.

Numerous road race series held at Salt Ayre circuit near Morecambe.

I have a red charge spoon on an all black bike, it’s there because the saddle is comfortable and I’m not going to buy a new one just because “it doesn’t match”.

My riding mates take the wee wee but I’m not bothered.

Ok, cheers. The forks i was looking at are 120 so would just need the appropriate airshaft to take up to 130/140 length.

Good to know, opens up the options to look at.

I got the very same impression when i emailed Turner a few weeks ago to inquire about availability and shipping. I got a reply from Dave Turner who essentially said that there wasn’t much demand for parts and bikes in the UK so certainly didn’t have any plans to re-establish a UK agent. His attitude was very CBA.
Doesn’t bode well for the future, at least bushes are in plentiful supply from Igus. I’ve just requested enough samples to replace all of them on my 5 Spot, however i’m going to order more as there are 3 of us on my riding group who run Turners.

Ive gone down the Igus free sample route aswell.

Reference numbers i had were slightly different, though that may be down to different materials.

How was the fit of the Igus bushes Ultracrepidarian?

Agree it is easy to strip out, just completely stripped mine down, didn’t take long to do.

No rebuild kits available in UK, its direct to Turner, although with some help & information from NorthCountryBoy of this parish i am trying to source replacement bushes from Igus so will post back with success, prices, etc.

That’s only for bushings though so if shafts are goosed it’s Turner only.

Rone – do you have a reference for the Igus bushes for a Turner? Might look at sourcing some.

    Will mail you also.

I live in Lancaster and the nearest mtb riding is up the back of Caton onto the Moor, and then head over the back lanes to Salter Fell. Otherwise Gisburn, Staveley, Settle, Clapham, Ingleton, Austwick, Sedburgh, Kirkby Lonsdale, Dent etc. are all half an hour away.
There are loads of nice road bike routes from your doorstep.

@Heliuscc – i’d be interested in those Nanos if you still have them.

Bought a couple then applied cycle2work discount I have, so £1.60!
Work quite well on road bikes & cyclocross.

No good in strong winds though”

I live in Caton and regularly ride the hills around Littledale & Roeburndale. I have a liitle loop that goes up a bridleway at the top of Brookhouse village onto Caton Moor and then back down via the road and access track by the windmills. Approx 10 miles in all.

As stever says the Salter Fell route is ok, but not technical. Good for an xc type blast, out and back.

There are some BW’s around Kirkby Lonsdale which head out towards Casteron & Barbondale.

The best local riding is at Farleton Knott near BUrton in Kendal. There’s a good 2 hour ride around there that i can supply a gpx file for. Its about 9 miles from Caton so could be ridden to and from aswell.

Ive been using a set of carbon wheels with Conti Gatorskin Tubs for the last two years. Only time i’ve had to change tyres was when the tub wore out (rear). Not one p…….!

Very nice to ride and very resistant to punctures. I’m going to ride them well into the Autumn and the only thing that stops me using them all year is the fact that the wheels are carbon and the winter roads will kill the wheels.

Glue is the only option imo. Once practiced it doesn’t take long to do.

I too have just bought a mk5 after having owned a mk3 for 9 years. They are like chalk and cheese!
The mk5 is a great car, ace to drive and plenty of power. Also pretty reliable.
That said my brother owned a mk4 1.8T and that was a nice car.

If you can stretch to a mk5 then that’d be the one to go for, if not then hunt out a decent 1.8T.

shedbrewed – i’ll take those 25mm Conti Sprinter Gatorskins.
Can you email me some pics and confirm payment method etc. I’d prefer paypal if that’s ok – i’ll pay fees. My email is in profile.

    Cheers

I don’t race, but I wanted some carbon wheels that I could use tubs with as they give a better ride than clinchers.
Wheels were a very good price (not Chinese carbon) so I want to make use of them. Tubs are just as user friendly as clinchers.

@ Shedbrewed – I’ll check out the Conti Gatorskins and let you know.

@ Rorschach – they aren’t going to be training wheels, they will be my good wheel set but I want tyres that will give some longetivity not brittle race tyres that will be goosed after 300 miles!

I was out there a fortnight ago in Puerto Pollenca, hadn’t booked a bike and walked into Pro Cycle Hire shop. Got a basic (Ambrosio alloy c/w carbon forks & stays & 105) bike for a couple of days for €20 per day.
They were helpful & polite and also surprisingly busy, hence only got a lower level spec bike.
I’m sure there are better bikes at better prices elsewhere but it was convenient for me at the time and was a good service.

Highly recommend the ride out to Cap de Formentor, great views.
Also Lluc and soller road was good (Ma10).

I was out by 7am and back by 11am and roads were pretty quiet.

Shop does ride outs on Tues & Thurs mornings approx 9am – 1pm.

Two definite inclusions in my garage would be an Audi Sport Quattro from circa 1985 and a Lancia Integrale HF Turbo. Something to play about with on the local back roads. Mate of mine recently had a Metro 6R4 which was great fun!

Bikes would have to be a Suzuki TL1000s and a Triumph T595. Also like a late ’90’s Fireblade to hoon about on?

Cycles would have to be a selection of carbon and titanium mountain bikes and any exotic (but relatively comfortable) road bikes.

Thanks for the info, anyone have any recommendations based on use/ownership?

I didn’t think the Rubber Queens or Mountain Kings were classed as light race type tyres. I’ve seen threads in the past about having trouble sealing RQ sidewalls due to their porosity.

Should have mentioned I’m looking at a 29er frame.

I’d be running a 50/60mm stem and 740 bars. I can only estimate stand over at approx 820mm which doesn’t leave any room!!

You’ve no stock of that size though Brant!
Are there going to be any more deliveries of Scandal frames or is that it?

Excellent, know exactly what it is now!

I’m going to run it with the seatpost correctly positioned and keep with the xtr rim brakes for the moment. May upgrade to disc wheels and fit disc brakes if it struggles. Will mainly be used for XC though so v-brakes should cope!

Regarding rear disc adaptor, where is the best place to find one?

Why the S-works on the headtube? Was that just as a gimmick?

Had a good road ride sat afternoon, 50 miles round the Lune Valley, Milnthorpe & Lancaster. Was a nice dry afternoon but the wind certainly made you work hard!
No riding today, but no.1 son’s rugby was frozen off so we went for a 10K run with the dog instead.

I took no2 son (age13) to Gisburn on friday and he really enjoyed it, think i may have sparked further interest! He has been round the forest road at Grizedale a few times but we did the blue route which involves quite a bit of singletrack which he hasn’t ridden before. He also did the bottom section of the Hope line after some gentle persuasion and he loved that, especially when i filmed his second run!
No1 son didn’t want to come ‘cos he said biking was boring and sh!t, but he seemed to change his tune when we showed him the film footage!
So hopefully if i can keep him interested he will want to come out more.

Had a good 15 mile ride round a very soggy Grizedale with mate, Paul. All was rideable just that most of the bridleways resembled streams. Old riverbed decent that finishes near the back of the Visitor Centre was very wet, but great fun.

I was on holiday in that area last week and went for a ride round the red route. Really enjoyed it. As op mentions, very fast and flowy, not particularly technical (although we didnt go on any of the black run so that may well be better). I had my brother in law with me who hasnt ridden mtb for some years and he really enjoyed it.

The “Go Ape” there is good aswell!!

Cheers guys, i had been thinking about the effect of all this rain, so will maybe have to rethink and take the road bike instead.
