In the last few of days I’ve had a couple of full-screen adverts – Age UK and Volvo cars – only happens when I’ve been viewing STW.

This morning, I’ve just had full-screen BBC3 advertising Zombie Apocalypse and National lottery with a background of diamonds.

Today (just after midnight) had Volvo again and some Army click-the-video ad.

    However, nothing else since.

…or imperceptible nod that you didn’t see

It’s yer Kill Bill innit – they were (obviously) Shaolin monks:

“As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned.

Now, was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei? Or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown.”

Do any STW photographers have any advice?

This is worth reading regarding lens choice. Although written for the 5200, it is a good general summary of lenses on non full-frame bodies.
Choose a Lens for Your Nikon D5200

I last went in 2012 when it was still ‘Focus on Imaging’, but coming up on March 21 – 24 2015 is
The Photography Show at NEC Birmingham

It is a good opportunity to get hands-on with a variety of kit – and usually some bargains / show only prices.

Good site for comparing prices: Camera Price Buster

Also worth considering / budgeting for:
    A second battery.
A clear (UV) filter* to protect the lens from dirt / water / fingers etc.

Body english is a colloquial term for muscling something around to get it to do what you want.

    This^^^

It certainly used to be a common expression in motorcycle trials riding.

I use SPDs (Shimano 540) but have flats on a ‘cheapy’ GT I’m prepared to risk parking in town.

    With the flats:
1 Still subconsciously tend to pull-up with the back foot.
2 Feet don’t feel in exactly the right place first time, as they do with SPDs

Four posts back – from the second link

“But MCN learned that representatives from Silverstone, including new boss Patrick Allen, flew to Barcelona on February 2 for talks with MotoGP rights owners Dorna about a rescue deal for the British MotoGP.”

    From Here

“Ticket sales for the British MotoGP have temporarily been paused as we have received information that the event will not be taking place at Donington in 2015.
A new venue has been secured and further information about this is to be announced on Thursday.”

In addition to what has already been posted:

If you search on flickr for ‘Lumix G6’ some photographers choose to show the EXIF data of their images.

    E.g. Real NYC Pizza

    Aperture F5.6
    Focal length 14mm
    Shutter speed 1/160 second
    ISO 1600

Taking some time to study these can be useful to gain an understanding of the sort of settings to use for a particular type of image.

As you asked about ‘White Balance’, you will have pre-sets for (typically):
    Auto
    Daylight
    Cloudy
    Flash
    Tungsten (Traditional light-bulbs)
    Fluorescent (Fluorescent tubes)
    Custom

White Balance is more accurately described in terms of degrees on the Kelvin (K) scale. So you may have settings for, or see references to:
    6000K (On camera flash)
    5500K (Average noon daylight)
    2500K (Domestic tungsten bulbs)

…i do realise that the main issue I have is in framing the shots…

Assuming you are shooting in jpg/jpeg format, these can be edited very successfully (e.g. cropped / tilted / re-sized etc) in the free photo-editing software from ‘Irfanview’.

However, editing in jpeg, the image will reduce in quality each time it is saved.

    If you try Irfanview, select:
    File – Save as
In the small jpeg/gif save options box – set the slider to about 90

    And you are probably right…

From an another forum regarding exact tyre size:

“You could have a good arguing point with your insurance company – but in the event of an accident it could be an insurance investigator from an injured third party’s insurance company who is looking for the loopholes.”

When I worked with motorcycles, just about the first thing insurance assessors looked at was tyre type/size/condition/tread depth.

If your Alfa is specified with 235/45 R18 – it looks like they would be:

    235/45 R18 98W

    98 = 750kg load per tyre = 3000kg total
    W = up to (approx) 168 mph

To be honest, for a tyre rated to carry the car plus 4/5 people plus luggage up to 168 mph, £150 ish seems justifiable

If you’re googling – split that number

    4118 710/51

    4118 model
    710 frame colour
    51 gradient lens tint

    Ray Ban 4118

ebay search: “4118 ray ban” found this:

    Women’s Ray Ban sunglasses

This listing ends 19:30 tonight – awful picture, but style looks close – might be worth an email re model number.

Apologies if these have already been mentioned (I did search). Thought they might be of interest.

Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb (himself a Muslim) regarding potential jihadists in the Netherlands:
    Breitbart (Oliver Lane)

“It is incomprehensible that you can turn against freedom… But if you don’t like freedom, for heaven’s sake pack your bags and leave.”

“There may be a place in the world where you can be yourself, be honest with yourself, and do not go and kill innocent journalists. And if you do not like it here because humorists you do not like make a newspaper, may I then say you can f*** off.”

“This is stupid, this so incomprehensible. Vanish from the Netherlands if you cannot find your place here. All those well-meaning Muslims here will now be stared at.”

Boris Johnson regarding Mayor Aboutaleb’s comments:
    Telegraph (Boris Johnson)

“That is the voice of the Enlightenment, of Voltaire. We can and will protect this country (UK) against these jihadist thugs. We will bug them and monitor them and arrest them and prosecute them and jail them.

But if we are going to win the struggle for the minds of these young people, then that is the kind of voice we need to hear – and it needs, above all, to be a Muslim voice.”

    From your posts:

Durability would be key, but good ergonomics important too. Quality steel is a must, something that takes and holds an edge well.

Looks aside I’m after functionality, first and foremost.

However for beating up/ruining and hard use I think the construction of more modern knives would be better suited.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

I use, and would certainly recommend, a Buck Alpha. One hand opening and closing is very useful.
