So ive got to give a 2 min presentation, with a visual aid, on a task.

This went down well (back when a lot of vehicles used optical keys).

Take an optical TV remote – How can you check it?

This illustrates the range of ‘visible light’ 400 – 700 nanometres (nm) within the spectrum.

Optical remote controls e.g TV / DVD / some car keys / HiHi etc use ‘Infra Red*’ which is outside the range of ‘visible light’ (greater than 700nm).

*Infra means: below / lower than

So if you need to check a remote, the human eye cannot see if it is working.

However, if you point the remote at a mobile phone camera, the sensor can detect IR light. When the remote buttons are pressed, it will show on the phone screen as a purpleish light if the remote is working OK.

Show the audience on their own phones – job’s a good un.

…but they couldn’t give an explanation for its disappearance when I picked it up from them.

Let’s face it, it was just a ‘Little Mix’ up, ‘You Gotta Not’ get stressed, hope that’s ‘Good Enough‘. They’re just ‘Weird People’ and ‘They Just Don’t Know You’ really wanted the tickets and that you’re ‘Going Nowhere’ until it’s resolved. The letter was possibly face down. I.e. not ‘Word Up‘. This is not going to ‘Change Your Life’ and it’s not ‘Black Magic‘, so ‘Move’ on, ‘Pretend it’s OK’
    this resolution is ‘Good Enough‘.

Make them famous, show their mothers, wives and daughters the sort of people that they are.

But from the competence of the Wing (Chun) mirror removal, I would hazard a guess that it’s not the first time she’s done that.

If you click on the Vimeo poster’s name, from two other videos, he clearly is involved with bikes:

oh…yes um…do a search on Sutton Hoo dancing warriors should bring up what you want I’d have thought.

Actually, I was aware of the Anglo Saxon helmet found at the Sutton Hoo burial ground – and IIRC that the warriors / beasts depicted could be interpreted as imaginary adversaries.

    It was the:

I thought the horns myth came about due to their helmets having ear flaps which they could fold up when not fighting. From a distance, the flaps sticking up (quiet at the back) were mistaken for horns. Or is that just another myth also?

I don’t know – I was told the Hollywood thing when I spent a while in Sweden in the 1980s.

    Further googling found this:

It is a myth, though, that their helmets were decorated with horns, antlers, or wings…Ornamented Viking helmets entered popular culture and imagination in the 19th century when writers and artists began depicting the Scandinavian marauders wearing them.

“A stereotypical painting by Mary McGregor from 1908 of Leif Ericson landing at Vinland”

“History.com says the roots of the stereotype may be in the 1800s, when Gustav Malmström, a Swedish artist, and Wagner’s opera costume designer Carl Emil Doepler both depicted Vikings in horned helmets.”

According to my Swedish associates, it will help if you:

Do: Wear a Tor’s Hammer amulet.

Don’t: Have horns on your helmet. (As the first horned Viking* helmets were reckoned to be in a Hollywood film.)

*Other cultures are known to have worn them.

Very sad – but reminded me of this.

Back in the late 1990s she was very well known as the unattainable ‘posh totty’ in FHM, Esquire etc.

In Dec 2001 (after 9/11) there was a prolonged battle at the ‘Tora Bora’ cave complex in Afghanistan (Trying to capture UBL).

The American forces called the complex ‘The Caves of Death’.

The British referred to them as ‘Tora Bora Tomkinson’.

I will give you two really good examples:

The BW image taken by an “up and coming NY based fashion photographer”.

… yet it’s execution clearly shows the photographer to be a skilled studio shooter.

Huh? It’s an available-light street portrait.

I struggle to see what this has to do with fashion photography. It reminds me of those ‘Apprentice’ TV shows where they are tasked to make a commercial and end up trying to be Cecil B. DeMille without any shots of the product.

To me, it looks like a poor man’s Tom Daley who’s lost his shirt and covered himself with a piece of 1980’s bedlinen.

The Pink dress photo you juxtapose “This image however is not art” was never intended to be ‘art’.
From the info of your posted image:
Winter collection – Formals and casual wear 2014 release! (scroll down 7 photos)

It is an image intended to show-off and ‘sell’ the dress – which it does well.

I.e. this dress covers the bust / has straps but is backless / will swirl out if the wearer dances at a party.

I do like your own image ‘Brighton Front’.
However, FYI, whenever you post images on STW, they always look too dark on my monitor.

I am well aware of this curious effect (put it online and it appears darker) with my own images. So, whenever I have finished PP, if the photo is going online, I will usually tweak it a bit (E.g. increase gamma).

“Hans Rey escaped the Nazis on a bike and then got the Curious George book published which he was carrying as he fled”

    No way…
    Yes way (my underlining):

Knowing that they must escape before the Nazis took power, Hans cobbled together two bicycles out of spare parts. Early in the morning of June 14, 1940, the Reys set off on their bicycles. They brought very little with them on their predawn flight — only warm coats, a bit of food, and five manuscripts, one of which was Curious George. The Nazis entered Paris just hours later, but the Reys were already on their way out. They rode their makeshift bicycles for four long days until reaching the French-Spanish border, where they sold them for train fare to Lisbon. From there they made their way to Brazil and on to New York City, beginning a whole new life as children’s book authors.

    Number of letters:
    How (3) I (1) wish (4) I (1) could (5) calculate (9) pi (2)’
    3.141592

    5.343443

    You achieve this how?

Maybe…It could also be from the symbol design from Bavaria.

I stand corrected (abbreviated for brevity – full text on link):

In July 1917, Franz Josef Popp registered the name Bayerische Motoren Werke, thus distancing the new company from the former Rapp Motorenwerke aero engine company… While the name was registered there wasn’t yet a new logo.

It was on October 5, 1917 the BMW trademark was registered… It featured the circular design of the Rapp logo but with the letters BMW at the top of the outer ring. The inner quadrants featured the Bavarian Free State colors of blue and white – but in the opposite order – as it was illegal to use national symbols in a commercial trademark.

The design was not in any way connected with aircraft engines or propellers. The idea that the blue and white had anything to do with spinning propellers comes from a 1929 advertisement, which featured aircraft with the image of the Roundel in the rotating propellers…

Origins of the BMW Logo (and the Spinning Propeller Myth)

    sands

1/ The Emma Peal character in the Avengers was so named because the producers wanted a female with ‘man appeal’ – abbreviated to ‘M appeal’.

2/ ‘How I wish I could calculate pi’

If you count the number of letters in each word, you can remember pi to 6dp.

    3.141592

3/ Because it has just appeared on a STW ‘Motability’ advert:

The BMW roundel represents a white aeroplane propeller against a blue sky.

Pete goes to the pub one day and bumps into his old school friend John.

Pete: “Hey, not seen you for three years, what have you been doing?“
John: “Actually, I’ve been doing a degree in Logic-Progression”
Pete: “I’ve never heard of that, what’s that all about then?”
John: “Well, I’ll try to give you an example… have you got goldfish?”
    Pete: “Yes, I have.”
John: “Well, if you’ve got goldfish, I bet it’s not in a little plastic tank – you would have a pond in the garden.”
    Pete: “Yeah, that‘s right.”
John: “ So, if you’ve got a pond in the garden, you probably have a decent house.”
Pete: “Yeah, I suppose I have.”
John: “ So, if you have a decent house, with a pond in the garden, you probably have a nice girlfriend.”
    Pete: “Yeah, I do.”
John: “ So, if you have a nice girlfriend, you’re probably getting a good sex-life.”
Pete: “Yeah, I am – that Logic-Progression is amazing, I see what you mean now.”

So, the next day, Pete goes the pub and sees another of their old school friends Rob.

Pete: “You’ll never guess who I saw yesterday – it was John.”
Rob: “Not seen him for three years, what’s he you been doing?“
Pete: “He’s been doing a degree in Logic-Progression”
Rob: “What’s that all about then?”
Pete: “Well, I’ll try to give you an example… have you got goldfish?”
Rob: “No, I‘ve never had a goldfish”
    Pete: “Then you’re a w**k*r.”

Just realised the copied / quoted Post #11

“So clock / instrument draws only 0.001 amp at rest”

    Should be 0.01 amp (10mA)

I.e. the original F650 forum poster ‘anthony’ refers to a total current drain of 0.04 amp (40mA) in both post #1 and post #11

    I’m feeling stumped

    You might find this interesting:
F650 forum – Battery draw drain

Worth reading the lot, but the salient points (in amps e.g. 0.04 = 40mA) are:

On the GS models, there is also some drain caused by the ECU. You can here some clicking noises for quite a while, after switching off the ignition and I don’t mean from the engine cooling down.

I also checked the draw on initial connection of the battery and like you state the bike must have a small initial systems check or power up as the draw then can be as much as 1-1.5 amps but after 2 mins it settles down to just the 0.04 as previously mentioned.

Some more interesting figures and facts
The instrument console on the 2000-2003 is not fuse protected
ECU disconnected also all fuses removed = inital connection = 0.085 draw = after 2-3 mins = 0.001 draw

    everything reconnected = inital connection = 0.13 draw = after 2-3 mins = 0.04 draw
So clock / instrument draws only 0.001 amp at rest
ECU draw = 0.03 amp at rest.

So, in this case, measured current drain was 0.04A (40mA) most of which was the ECU.

    Cougar – Moderator
    mA, I would hope!

    What Cougar means is:
mA is milliamp – 1000 th of an amp
MA is mega amp 1 million amps

I bought the Industrial stack back in October.

Initially it was the same deal – top box plus roll cab for £299.

I (fortunately) dithered for a couple of days and then the offer was top box plus mid box plus roll cab for £349.

IIRC, at the time, I saw somewhere that a lot of the Halfords boxes arrive damaged. So if anyone buys, check for dents etc as soon as possible – mine were OK.
