For me the same problem exists with press-fit and HTII and that is sealing, the main problem is the design of the cranks that seem to allow water/mud ingress and then force that mud/water into the bearings as you pedal.

    Stretch
cant do enough calf and hamstring stretches, as a cyclist these will have shortened and you will get a lot of injuries if you start bashing out too much too soon, ease into it and walk too.

Talking to Stu at Evolution today, there is a demo day at Lee quarry in a couple of weeks so you could see one and ride one there.

    Not really Kenneth.
Its a bit more than that, I am well aware of the prices of products available on the internet and that dosent bother me too much.
We dont keep a warehouse full of stock and dont import direct from China, so we have to work around the prices we get from suppliers.
Different people want different things and not everyone is looking for the cheapest deal from china, a lot of parts and bikes we sell are following a fair bit of discussion and consideration of what the customer wants/needs. (partly why i like these forums – to get ideas about new products and peoples opinions on them)
My concern is with our obsession as a nation to buy from abroad which worries me long term for the state of the Country as a whole.
(when I read the initial thread I was particularly wound up by a tender I was doing – hence my sharp response)

No a shop run by terminators or Ed209 would be cooler.

Hopefully one day we will open a shop in Sheffield and then you will be able to come in and talk bikes and buy stuff in a shop with real people

Yes we (Crosstrax) do have stock of Zesty and Spicy, dont have a 514 Medium in stock but have one held at the suppliers.
The problem with delivery has been with the supplier increasing the number of dealers, Lapierre selling in to other countries, some dealers putting big orders in to ensure stock, Lapierre themselves being unprepared for the demand.
We have had a nightmare getting stock and have lost a number of customers who wanted bikes.
There just arent enough bikes and the importer are sending them out as quick as they can, but they are still fulfilling preseason orders before they get available stock.
If your shop hasnt got a preseason order waiting to be fulfilled then I reckon you could be waiting a while. you could ask them to pay for it pro forma for you which might get the supplier to supply it to you

Woody apologies for the sharp response earlier, I was frustrated at filling out a PQQ for Leeds Council, but theyve just issued an adendum, so Im a lot more chilled now.

PS if you want an entry in the Etape du dales give me a shout I sponsor the event with the numbers and have a few entries spare.

I believe passionately about cycling in many forms.

I support a big team, and organise races, local rides and help local community projects, work with local council to sort access rights on local moorland and woods, support trail building groups and try my best to get money from councils to develop cycling projects in the area, like a local trials park and a dirt jump/mtb skills area in the local woods.
I have a bike shop its called Crosstrax in Leeds, not too worried about people knowing who I am.

I don't expect charity, we do our best to compete on price and service and can usually beat most online sellers, but we have to pay VAT and duty on imported goods etc etc so we're not always cheapest, but then we fit stuff and help local riders with their bikes for nowt if it dosent warrant a lot of work, and have a big pile of second hand bits that we can give riders if they need them.
apologies for telling you to go to hong kong :)

I wouldnt feel guilty about not buying from your LBS or UK co.
We should all buy from abroad and then hopefully a few bike shops wil go bust and then the hong kong companies might step in and organise local races, support local cycle clubs and teams and help UK riders compete and get better and hopefully then we might have a better UK race scene and local cycling projects will all benefit. and hopefully you might **** off to hong kong too.

if you want to get it resolved quickly and amicably then Id recommend speaking kindly and firmly to the bike shop manager and see if you can resolve the matter with them directly, no need to start getting the lawyers involved, they should know their responsibilites and you can refer to the refernce in TJs post to back up your claim.

However, it does seem to be a very odd failure, which would suggest an impact. Im only telling you this as I have seen a lot of waranty claims.
I would also look at other forums in the US etc. to see if this fault has ocurred with other people.

sounds like quite a failure, which wouldnt suggest a manufacturing fault.

hence them not wanting to warranty the frame.

Just read the comment about Kielder, Neil who won now rides a Scott spark.
and he would have won it regardless of being on a 29er.

for a long day in the saddle, concentrate more on yourself than the bike.
you have to build up to riding long days out.
so it wont matter what bike you have.

I dont want to jump on the band wagon and bay for blood, but it seems like an odd failure, has it gone at the welds? have you hit anything? has anything been dropped on it, etc.
I dont work for Specialized, but is their response based on an inspection of the bike?
it dosent matter where the bike lives, its more how its been handled when riding or when moving it about.

All tyres are ok for the level of riding we all do, just pin it and get on with it, when they are bald, keep riding and learn to push your limits and dont worry about all this crap.
Some of the fastest riders i have ridden with have been on bald tyres riding off the brakes through mud, rocks roots and just flat out.
    dont worry about it all.

If it was fitted properly then it would work correctly, go see your LBS.

Bike being discounted wont affect your rigths to a full refund, they have failed to provide adequate replacement and care, Id ask for a full cash refund, which you ar entitled as the bike wasnt fit for purpose, also speak to CAB if you want a few legal points covered.

you dont carry the bike on your shoulder that much on pas de lona, just push it, so taking a camelback for that seems a waste.
seriosuly theres loads of food stops, but the best thing you could do is go out two weeks early and ride the course in sections to understand what its like.
nothing in the uk can prepare you for it and you can get some altitude training in at the same time.

Its mint, the organisation is the best of any event ive been to, its good to get around 7 hours for the Heremence – Grimentz route (well for me at least)
Dont! take a camelback, just take two bottles that you can throw away or refill at the feed stations. Eat plenty and regular, dont carry anything other than a lightweight shell and take arm warmers.
strap a couple of tubes and pump/levers behind your seatpost.
tape some gels to your stem. and carry energy bars etc in your pockets, treat it as a race and not an day on the bike.
Its very hard as the climbs go on for a long time, the XC racer boys are as fast as any full bounce on the fire roads as there isnt any technical until a short section after the barrage. but thats not hard or slow on a hardtail.
take a fast rolling tyre like a racing ralph, I run quite high pressures about 45psi as its rocky and grip isnt an issue.

well I set up a shop a few years ago and its been growing ever since, and its hard, but rewarding, we held our first race at the weekend and its a lot of fun at times.
just beware that the distributors and suppliers are totally shit in the UK.
I am looking to get products elsewhere as they either sell all their stock to the big internet companies and leave you with back orders that can take months to fulfill making you look like a tit and the customer then more detemined to stick to online ordering or they dont carry sufficient spares to fulfil warranty work, but the job is cool and its not going to make you a millionaire.
but get a good local scene going, sort local rides and do a good job of fixing bikes, and dont worry too much about the internet forums as the guys on here are the minority not the rule.
your average biker hasnt heard of singletrackworld, bikemagic, bikeradar etc.

I find that digging dirt ramps ans making bike parks is the best activity for building all round strength, try moving rocks around to make a skills park and then moving tons of soil by wheelbarrow/shovel and you wont worry about gyms, or press ups, but you will develop muscle strength where you need it and you will develop a bike park that you can ride, check out singletraction and get digging, and make a contribution to your local trails instead of posing in a gym :)

The shims work fine just be careful when fitting them, make sure they are pressed properly in.

not sure why the bike shop would tell you that, i havent had any bother with the ones Ive fitted to customers bikes.

She wouldnt accept that the kid had even touched the bike, and told me to claim on my insurance, but there were three people in the shop who saw the kid try climb on it while his mum was messing about with a bmx.
so I have her number plate at the moment.

In a similar vein, I had a kid knock a Froggy 518 over in my shop, I told his mother that Id like to sort something out with her as i now have a new bike with a dented top tube, any advice on what to do, I was thinking of claiming in the small claims court.
