Having been made redundant in the past I can sympathise with your position, however, having made people redundant, I can also say that the company can do what they like and if you have a grievance and want to claim unfair dismissal then good luck, if you won a claim like that, I doubt what you would get would be worth the effort and it could take ages to decide and cost you money too,
from experience its best to move on quickly and get something else sorted asap.

The tender thing was done by Leeds Council in this instance, however the tender process wasnt about value for money, it was simply about quality standards and liability insurance, etc, the decision was made after the buyer couldnt be bothered to sort it out. (this is from the councillor) not me.

In my experience there are pissed up dickheads who need a good kicking and dumping in a ditch. As used to be the case. I remember even when drunk and fighting in town, as soon as the police arrived you tried to stop and avoid a kicking from the police and you never answered them back.

I think it showed the police in a good light, and just as regular individuals like the rest of us, they deserve respect as human beings as well as for the authority of the uniform.

Coffeeking, I suggest you carry on living in your bubble as it sounds like a nice place to be.
As a regular in Leeds I see the trash that is pissed up students, pissed up office workers on a Friday and pissed up stag hen do’s on Saturday.
The police are in an impossible situation as highlighted on the show, and the officers were very restrained, I think these idiots who dont do as the police ask should be treated far harsher than they do currently.

well I didnt like the attitude of staff in my local LBS’s, so I set up my own and try really hard to keep customers happy, but it is very hard sometimes and not as easy as I thought it would be, but we do try.

Dont see whats stupid about it, just expressing my concerns, maybe if you realised how many bikes are being stolen in leeds at the moment then you might share my concerns.

no not repair it just better understand the parts and then advertise them better, which will make them harder to spot in ebay, etc.
Its not rocket science, but a lot of criminals have no clue about bikes, and im afriad this could get them better clued up for selling the bikes on.
Also not sure that some of the shops in the area that deal in second hand bikes will appreciate having a bunch of crims selling bikes when they get them for free.
Also not sure about hiring an ex crim when there are dozens of cvs on my desk from really enthusiastic cyclists who are at uni etc.
Real Man are you saying its ok to steal a bike and sell it as long as its been serviced and is working ok?
Apart from a charity getting some cash I dont see a benefit. and see a lot of cons (excuse the pun)

I dont like the idea of criminals being taught how to repair bikes, there is a bike crime wave going on in leeds and this could just help a few of them to better understand bikes and then make it easier for them to sell the stolen ones.

A company we deal with extends the period to 18 months and then dosent sell the bike to you, they just write it off as asset depreciation, which sounds like a winner to me, still let you keep the bike though.

we get frames anodized for £75 and that includes blasting to get the paint off.
Personally i dont like powder coating frames, prefer paint or plating, going to try Xylan coating next it looks awesome.

I reckon if youre freaked by them, then go find some and get some practice in with a few mates who can ride them comfortably, watch and learn how they are doing it and then just practice in your own time.

I think bikes and kit get overrated because of people on here and elsewhere just trying to justify their reasons for buying something.

So in reality there is nothing wrong with any of the bikes out there, just people arguing the toss

I found it really hard, I had to get round and support nine riders.
Saying that my Yamaha helped enormously.
Even helped a few non team members.

could we just trade all our fat ugly women for their slim fit ones, I bet they would be worth more as they would be better suited to pulling carts and working in the fields.

Both career politicians, only time will tell what Ed stands for because he hasnt really said anything yet.
Personally I dont think David had much choice, being in cabinet would give the tories and the press a lot to attack labour with if there were any splits in opinion etc.

Ernie, Im neither Labour or Tory, I am cynical of how both parties operate and are simply looking to feather the nests of their own supporters.
I dont like how the Unions are so politicised in the Labour party and I dont like how big business bolsters the conservatives.
of the 3 million levy paying members less than 10% voted, so like I said earlier, apathy wins in UK Elections.
And if you want me to remind you again, I do know how the Labour electoral college system works, its easy to understand from reading their web site, which also contains all the stats on the votes cast.

Ok forgive me for using a term that is a bit tabloid, its just that no major union voted against the endorsement set out by its leaders, in the case of UNITE and the GMB this endorsement went out with the ballot papers, but as only 10% or less of you voted then apathy again wins the day in UK politics.

    Just to quote the BBC
“Under Labour’s three-way electoral college, David had won the most support from party members and MPs. Ed had won only among trade unions and the so called affiliated societies of think tanks and interest groups.”
The fourth round results show that ed was clearly supported by the unions and David was supported by the MPs and members.
David Miliband 49.35 (17.812 from MPs and MEPs, 18.135 from members, 13.40 from unions and affiliated societies)

Ed Miliband 50.65 (15.522 from MPs and MEPs, 15.198 from members, 19.934 from unions and affiliated societies)

Im not ranting, or ill informed, I do know how the electoral college works.

really, then you do understand how the union votes work

    Sancho

I dont know much about him or what he stands for, however I wouldnt trust anyone who is prepared to shaft their own brother, also he was put into place by the unions, David got the majority vote of Labour members and politicians, but the union block vote rode rough shod over all that, so they get a new stooge.

Cristalp is the hardest race I’ve ever known, been doing it for the past few years but for next year its the Transvesubienne for me, based on it being new and a more technical race.

fair enough. Id get the cheapest then, cant imagine that much between them. the only issue for winter riding is that they wont take proper mudguards.

if its 2011 get the speedster S55 it comes with mudguards for the same price.

It’s a shame some of the mountain bikers didnt have the courtesy to get out of the way of the competitors, one of our lads went over the bars on penyghent and bent his wheel becuase a bloke on a mtb wasnt looking where he was going, ended up loosing time and nearly lost 15th place.

I was looking at this new final valuation process today and think I have found a cunning way around it.
The 25% valuation dosent apply to clothing or equipment not fitted to the bike.
therefore I can charge less for the bike and more for the clothing.
    e.g. if someone bought a bike (£700) and a jacket (£25) for £725 total
If i charged £325 for the jacket and £400 for the bike then the final valuation is based on the £400 for the bike.
The guidelines dont tell you what the market value of the bike should be when you buy it.
Besides, as a retailer I can charge what I like for the products I sell.

I spoke to Neal who came third, apparently he lost his water bottle at fifty miles so had to do the last fifty with just the bits of drink he could get at the feed stations, so he had to ease off to avoid getting too dehydrated.
Its a bit depressing when I think of how fast he rides when he eases off compared to my flat out efforts.
