Approximately over 80 different species of ETs (or EBEs – extraterrestrial biological entities – as called in military circles) have been recorded as visiting earth. And that’s if it’s ETs doing it. Could be intraterrestrials i.e. entities from within the earth.

I can safely say, with no shadow of doubt and without fear of contradiction, that this and the rest of message it’s taken from, is the maddest intervention on any internet forum in the entire history of the universe.

Before I go down the route of floating rotors for the new bike, is this a common problem?

When I was on my hols earlier this year, I was pulled on the brakes and, to my delight, the braking surface thingy on my Hope rear floating rotor came away from the floating spider doodah and ended up as a mangled mess in my rear spokes. Only my incredible skillz prevented my certain death.

The lesson here, my friends, is check your rotors for wear more often than once every 5,000 km.

I’ve had a Tricross for about 5 years. I commute on it every day, and I’ve toured on it.

It’s a great workhorse and I’d have no hesitation in recommending one for the job the OP has in mind.

But it’s dull to ride – it’s not the kind of bike that’s going to put a smile on your face.

Just fitted my new Hope/Flow EX SS wheel to my Fortitude, came in, sat down, turned on computer and saw this thread.

To put the cherry on the cake, my Hope hubs are also on a Fortitude.

Does sound like you are running way too much chain tension.

It may sound like that, but it isn’t that.

Thanks chaps – but none of the above.

It’s like riding a static gym bike with the resistance cranked up to 11.

I’m going back to the stock cheapo hub and screw on freewheel. Knickers to it.

Thanks to our forefathers striking we are free to display our ignorance of the history of industrial relations on a mountain bike forum instead of spending time either working 15 hour shifts in some industrial deathtrap or watching our children slowly die of consumption in some stinking hovel.

I rode X Kings throughout last winter (29er rigid SS).

I expected them to struggle on muddy Welsh trails but they were faultless. I won’t be swapping them out for this winter.

I’ve used Mountain Kings a lot and always been happy.

Bought a pair of the new Mountain King IIs recently and both massively warped to the extent I thought I had buckled wheels.

Moorhouse Farm campsite at Holford have some camping pods. It’s the best base for riding the Quantocks we’ve found.

Afon Argoed is about a 20 mins drive from the Dragon Ride HQ.

    Simple as that.

Had a SS Fortitude for a couple of weeks.

My first ever SS, first ever 29er and first rigid bike for 15 years. Considering I had all that to deal with, it was a great ride straight out of the box. This is a reflection of the quality of the bike, not my skillz.

My only slight grumble is the brakes – they seem a bit underpowered to me.
