try the smaller vilages on the south side of kendal like levens, sedgwick, or natland. handy for the m6, and cheaper than places like staveley,, (where i lived all my life tiil 4 years ago). these little places dont get the tourists like all the others mentioned.

bought a frame just before xmas. so far so good.
been using it for hammering the lakes trails, and its taken all i've thrown at it.
if your buying a full build, have a look at a shorter stem. very personal i know, but i put a 50mm on mine and feels so much better than standard.
one other thing, watch out for the low bb. been over the bars a couple of times after clipping my pedal on rocks.
also get ready to corner faster than you have before, its so quick through the berms.
    hope you enjoy it.

cheers for all the advice. looked at the saris bones in wheelbase today and think i would have trouble getting my small 224 on there. and my ironhorse mk3 would really struggle. gonna give a mechanic i know a ring and price up a tow bar. not sure ill feel safe with the bikes on the roof!

think ill look in to the cost of fitting a tow bar. sounds like a better choice than either racks.
or i could always trade the car in for a van!

we just bought a citroen xara piccaso. pig ugly, but cheap. 5 proper seats, 7000 miles £7695 on a 1.6 hdi. loads of boot space, about 50 to mpg. got to be worth a look.

think the rain/floods before xmas washed alot of these tracks away, so unfortunately they had to get the machines in so the farmers could get up the fell. they'll be rough as **** in no time though. (hopefully)

quite fancy a range rover, but a little beyond our budget i think.
i know a bloke who works at a vauxhal garage, so a zafira might be worth a look.

im glad the d3000 rates highly, thats the one i have been looking at on amazon this morning.
is the d5000 worth the extra cash over the d3000?

just had a rear generator fail on me. 18 months old, and the threads on the axle, have all stripped off, so cant tighten the wheel up. no warenty, and they dont sell spare axles. oh and had to replace the freehub body in that time too. should have bought a hope in the first place but was being tight! got one now though.

staveley is 15 mins from j36 of the m6. park outside wheelbase, and do garburn from there, about 1 1/2 to 3 hours depending which route you take. the lads at wheelbase will point you in the right direction. been doing that ride for 20 years and still love it!

    one word for gisburn. FUN!
just had a grin on my face all the way round, really enjoyed the multi lines up near the slab, and the tight burmed section near the start. cant wait to go back, and its only an just over an hours drive from my house. :-)

as for ferne cotton, who on earth let this feeble excuse for a presnter anywhere near a radio station? she killed top of the pops, and is gonna kill radio 1 too! bring back mark and lard, or put adam and joe on radio 1 or 2 in the week.
