Just after the gate at the bottom there is a bridge with some steps up to the road, then turn right at the road and follow it back? If that is not what you do already.

Probably the sort of stuff that money can improve such as wheels and forks. EG: IMO, no point in spending loads on gearing if a cheap system works fine.

Wide bars are fantastic. I went from 600 to 710 with 60mm on my merida and would never look back although i want some lower bars now.
    EDIT: sorry about double post.

im not that tall at 6ft, but i am quite skinny at 10 stone, but i have a mass produced taiwanese 100mm hardtail so not very niche at all.

Something around Hayfield? start in hayfield, go up 20 trees (yes there are only 19) up to the shooting cabins and down carr meadow, WALK up the track over the bridge at the bottom as the farmer there is very angry. Get to the top, cross the road, up over lantern pike, down into hayfield/birch vale. Cross the road and go up another road to new allotments and down to Peep o' day. Cross the main road and go down the motorway descent to the ashes, up a bit then down the campsite descent through the woods, then have fish and chips in the village :)

slight resurrection admittedly. "Live life to the full, have no regrets. Because what you did, was at some time, exactly what you wanted to do."
No idea who said it but i like it.

I thought i saw you simon, i was with that group of 9 riders. If i had realised when i saw you i would have said hi, oh well. Horses coming up meant we had to stop, ruining that singletrack down from where we saw you

i would say go down jacobs ladder, maybe include campsite just because it's there? The descent down to the ashes isn't really worth the climb up Jacobs, and all the best descents are ridden down rather than up if you go down Jacobs rather than up it.

21 miles off road, started in glossop, lunch at roman lakes then back :) super hot though.

From glossop, up the road to chunal, over lantern pike and down to the bottom of the valley. Up the other side, then down the road + turned off opposite mellor golf club. down that track, turned right then almost immediately left down the fox, great run with bermy bits, but i could hardly see anything because of the dappled light. from there down to roman lakes after me crashing into the back of someone  had a perfect bacon butty, burned just right so it was crispy then rode up from there through the golf club and along the road towards lantern pike again, over lanern pike and down the road back to glossop :D 3000ft of climb in all.

I did 21 miles today, but took no photos. I am one of those fools pook has shown around and his pootles are a complete giggle.

wheels will be the most noticeable due to rolling weight. the next probably be forks, and depending on how much you spend on wheels and whether you sell the forks you have currently, you could probably get some second hand Floats Or Revelations.

Coed Y Brenin is probably an hour 15 away, and is definitely worth the trip, will be nice and dusty now I suspect.

coffee/ hot choolate machine, friendly staff and bling cabinet. Depending on where you are, running stuff might be a good idea aswell. My LBS, (Bike Factory Whaley Bridge) do fell running stuff for example. They also have some Planet X Frames & bikes. IMO this is a good idea as quite often people want to try before they buy, especially on bikes 1k plus.

decent parts, perhaps being able to hire out bike tools from the workshop?

710 was a good jump from 600, but i want wider and lower now. and this is on a 100mm hardtail with fairly steep head angle :D

never ridden any decent distance on the road, but i would just get bored i think. Roadies win for boredom resistance. Then again, hora is less likely to be on the roads than on the trails, so maybe road riding is safer. ;)

thanks for all that. I rarely use pokets as i either have my ride pack or a saddle bag, so they seem well suited to me and a pretty good deal.
