Having said that, modern forks need very little maintenance.

I made it every time! Would probably have struggled without your “encouragement” mind ;)

Some top marshalling by rockitman, from a very knackered number 44 ;)

I was 204th and did 4 laps if that helps. Looks like a LOT of people did 4 laps.

I think I got sideways at the bottom of the steep bit at the top of the bottom car park on every lap, possibly my favourite bit of the course. Hope someone got a photo.

I love my Salsa Horsethief, it’s chuffing awesome.

204th for me. I did more laps and finished in a better position than last year, winner.

I was one that complained (sarcastically), hope she realised I was being sarcastic

Didn’t mind last years weather, although we did escape straight away rather than waiting around.

No, mine were the 130s and were going on my Horsethief so I didn’t bother. Came with spacers in the box though, so I’d assume you can reduce the travel.

Sounds like it was a couple of people that gained a reputation! On the whole everyone was very friendly, cheers all.

Can’t remember the crosser, a BMC rider got in a bit of a mood when I fell off on the rutted bit though.

Those CRC Revs are awesome, love mine.

If you’d done lap 5 you’d have done better than him, however slow you rode it. I finished my 3rd lap with about 25 mins to go, so I did another lap, albeit very slowly. I was absolutely SHATTERED.

SO MUCH FUN. Took me bloody ages to clean the bike though. Did 4 laps, which I was happy with, absolutely shot on the last lap though. Massive thanks to all involved. Only saw one gel wrapper on the whole course, which is nice.

Most is more technical than “mini fireroads” but you do have a point. Fast rather than massively technical, different rather than better/worse than North Wales.

No trail centres, there’s a couple of purpose built trails near Sheffield though (Parkwood Springs, Greno Woods and Wharncliffe). Pretty easy to navigate in the Peak District though, most trails are very obvious and match what’s on the map. Hope’s a good starting point, 18 Bikes will be able to give you some fairly up to date route advice.

Can probably show you around the Dark Peak on Monday if you end up coming up this way. Mostly straight and rocky trails, weather forecast is alright for the Peak beginning of next week so I’d make the most of that!
Weather: Sunken tracks may have a bit of snow left, but can’t see there being enough to impact on route choice at all.

Teva Links are a bit more sleek that 5:10s, as are Shimano AM41.

How muddy is it? Not that it’ll change my bike in any way. Last time I rode it I didn’t need to wash my bike after, how similar will this year be? ;)

Had also considered Ardents, trying to find something a bit lighter than the Chunky Monkey though.

If Ison distribution have any left, My Salsa Horsethief frame was only £800, and forks are currently cheap at CRC. I’m in Whaley Bridge if he wants to try it for size.

Must admit I fancy trying a Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph snakeskin combo. What did you think of Bikevillage?

Was alright getting back from Nottingham earlier, a bit of slow traffic but our old Audi A6 with decent tyres is chuffing awesome. Always good when you have a van sliding sideways down the hill towards you over Tideswell moor.

Thought you might have been doing Hit The North. Surprised the CCDB fits Grace, didn’t think there’d be enough space under the top tube.

I almost feel responsible for your purchases. I’m proud of that :D I love mine, it’s an absolute hoot, just so good pretty much everywhere. Chunky Monkey 2.4 doesn’t feel in any way draggy, brilliant tyre up front.

That Oracle crash was a pretty big issue for them, bits of carbon scattered all over San Francisco bay. Fancy a play on an Extreme 40.

Was about to suggest getting it from 18 Bikes, get the train out there from Manchester and ride it home ;)

Smorgasbord went onto mine pretty easily, Chunky Monkey more difficult bu still doable without levers. Harder to get off mind.

Want to know why I wasn’t bothered about eating Horse?
I thought it’d give me a more stable diet.
