I’ve still got a pair of Psylo Races in gold on my ’99 Kona Chute. Just waiting for a cheap pair of wheels to build it up and it’ll be my pub/commuter bike.

I thought the Races were ok tbh, although I did blow up the (plastic) internals riding ‘street’ (jumping down the stairs outside Chester magistrate’s court). TFT sorted some non-cheese internals and they still ride OK 🙂

    33, 5’10”, 81kg 🙁

Would like to hit mid-70s… mostly through exercise but I find it just makes me hungry. Still, down from 86kg at my peak – just need to keep on it!

I had one. Great bike, little on the heavy side nowadays but rides very well.

I’m 5’10” with a 34″ inside leg, was running a 50mm stem and felt spot on. I’m quite long-legged for my height though, if you’re normally proportioned I’d hazard a Large might be a better option. Only way to find out is to buy it and take it for a spin 😈

I’m probably going to do it on my “research” laptop as well… but in a month or so.

Hilarious stories of forced driver updates at arbitrary times are keeping me clear at the moment. My favourite so far is the guy doing a client presentation at the point that Windows decided it was time to install a new (bugged) graphics driver 😆

Either a Carbine 29 or a Tracer 275… really need to demo both (if I can find anywhere that’s got both in). The Carbine I demo’d last year was an absolute riot, but reviews say the Tracer is even better. Definitely want to pick up one of them though, Fox 36s plus a CCDB Air, 1×11… yum! 😈

Next Gen still has zero momentum IMO – everything that has been hyped has been anticlimactic to say the least – fancy graphics that actually don’t deliver past the promotional demos which generally run on more powerful computers that we consumers use – and frame rates never as good as we’re led to believe – And we’re constantly being told all these teething issues are to be resolved – feels like being a gamer in 2015 is all about being perpetually suckered by the industry – I’d also like some AAA titles that weren’t so dumbed down that anyone can pick up a controller and be half decent in one session – the combat mechanics these days are generally designed to be idiot proof – Naughty Dog and the Coalition are the only studios I’m backing right now .

I kind of agree that there isn’t a deluge of high quality stuff just yet, but it isn’t like there is nothing to go round. Bloodborne on the PS4 is still sucking up my time, and is hard when you first pick it up (even as a Dark Souls player). But it’s *awesome*.

Also – free this month on PS Plus – is Rocket League. Basically football with cars, but is so much more than that and incredibly fun, in a “just one more game… oh no it’s 4am what happened” way. And if you think it sounds simple, have a look at this highlight reel from the beta a month or so ago:

+1, use them and GP4000S and they feel pretty much the same.

your not neanderthal just because you like a sexy bird standing infront of you. just a normal red blooded bloke with eyes. when you go a club you look and say shes a stunner. when you see a lass in a short skirt you say or think oh yes, shes fit. when you see a geezer in a muscle vest and speedos i bet you check out his junk.

Nothing wrong with noticing other people and finding them attractive, as long as it’s in context. The context in your post being everyday people who have put an effort to make themselves look attractive (at a club, on the beach, etc).

Podium girls are not there because, on a normal Sunday afternoon, they’d be hanging around a podium in their bikinis. They’re there to serve as an object of titillation for audience.

not asked to? – that doesn’t make it sexist

Pretty sure that’s workplace gender discrimination.

don’t have aproblem with it at all. TBF its the only interesting thing about F1 and road cycling. If I won a race, I’d rather be handed flowers/prize by an attractive woman than some bloke. Its not sexist to have dolly brollys and podium girls

those girls in that pic look like the typical skanky girls at local car shows. thats just tacky

Your two posts above illustrate the problem fantastically, well done. First post: “I would like a prize from someone I find attractive”, second post: “and definitely not from someone who is ‘skanky'”.

So the entire value of the person is how physically attractive you personally find them? You’ve reduced this person to an object for your own arousal – that’s the whole problem.

Final episode looks like it should be good, looking forward to watching it this eve. However they’ve missed out the most epic part of Kelly C’s storyline in the books… (don’t worry, it isn’t story-related 😆 )

Sunset found her squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up she was shitting brown water. The more she drank, the more she shat, but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew, and her thirst sent her crawling to the stream to suck up more water.

Yeah I think that’s almost certainly the case – they’ve seen the bike and targeted it. My Strava is set up with a decent-sized privacy zone, so think they must have spotted me on it at some point.

My housemate’s laptop went as well, but I think that was opportunistic – MY laptop (which was right next to the bike) and mobile phone (couple of feet away) were both left untouched.

Thanks for the replies so far! Bike was stolen from my house in North London (Finsbury Park area) – thieves smashed in the front door and went straight upstairs to get the bike.

Sadly no insurance – I rent with friends and no insurance company would touch a bike that expensive given that I’m living with people other than family 🙁

Hora: Good call – I’ll get the other bikes moved ASAP (I’ve got a couple of options in different buildings so should be able to sort something!)

    Windows 7 and above.

I think jam bo is inferring that the Win 7 –> 10 upgrade is free regardless of whether your Win 7 copy is legitimate or not.
EDIT: that applies globally, not just to China…

So the cheapest way to get to Win 10 is to skip buying 8.1 for £40 and just get a pirated Win7 iso and upgrade it. Morally dubious ofc!

EDIT: And that’s what I get for not refreshing before posting! 😀

^ +1. If you get serious, elastic laces are great (as is going sockless) but you don’t need it for your first tri!

Take the 10 seconds to pull your socks on (remember to talc the inside beforehand), then just lace up your running shoes. If you enjoy it and want to get serious, *then* have a look at elastic laces and start going shoeless (to see if/how much you blister up), etc etc.

Above all – have fun! 😀

It’s also hard to work out whether privacy zones are effective in FlyBy, I’m thinking not, but there doesn’t seem to be any explicit information on the Strava site, which is a bit irritating.

Privacy zones do work in Flybys. I tested it by having a look at yesterday’s club intervals and watching people (who I already know where they live!) head home afterwards. Privacy zone kicked in just short of their actual address just like viewing the individual activity 🙂

Right now the only opt out is to make all rides private.

Not at all true. Flyby privacy is a separate setting under the Privacy tab (as discussed in the article linked in the first post). You can opt out of the Flyby feature without making everything private.

Yep, black Eastons on the MTB, black/blue 3T on the roadie.

I do have a non-matching Thomson / TriRig stem/bar combo for my TT setup and it does trigger the OCD a little 😯

Garmin 920XT. The 910 was good, the 920 is better – navigation is now usable, the multiple profiles are extremely handy for multiple sports (I’ve got run, track run, OW swim, pool swim, bike, triathlon, skiing) and the wireless connectivity is just icing on the cake.

iTunes is frustratingly sh@te, most will agree

Not really sure about that. I use it to manage and play my music collection and sync to iDevices and it’s just fine.

Find album, play album. Make playlist, sync to device, easy. 😉

Edit: in fact I’m even using it at work! Not that that helps your problem though, I’m on PC so don’t know of any good alternatives 😕

I’m a 50/50 split. Road riding I prefer to be out by myself, with a group there’s a huge amount of stopping to faff and I just end up getting cold. Much prefer to be able to press on and get the miles in.

Mountain biking I much prefer riding with mates. It’s a bit more faffy than a solo ride, but most of the MTB’ing I do isn’t to get miles in, it’s to fart around on black sections and do DH. Much more fun with a group of mates. Sadly my riding buddies all live 3+ hours away now, probably explains why I do so little MTB’ing these days! 😕

Thanks for the input so far… On-One don’t have HR2s though! Or would Minions be a betterer option?

Will the HR2 DH seal up tubelessly (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/maxxis-high-roller-ii-dh-tyre/rp-prod70747), or am I better off saving weight with the EXO version (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/maxxis-high-roller-ii-exo-tyre/rp-prod77864)?

W7 but we also have to use PGP whole disk encryption which is incredibly slow to hibernate, but hibernate is necessary when you leave your PC because it’s not secure in sleep mode.

Isn’t this a problem for your IT support team to handle?

“You require use of PGP and also that I do not use sleep, but must hibernate instead. What is your solution to the 20 minute delay when coming out of hibernation?”

If they’re going to enforce policies (which may well be justified), they need to at least be workable 😕

Most of the bases have been covered already: GTA5, (maybe CoD), Last of Us, Far Cry 4, Shadow of Mordor are the big ones.

If you want a “proper” Assassins Creed game I’d go for Black Flag over Unity – it’s cheaper and has more variety, and the ship-to-ship combat is ace. Having said that, Mordor is a brilliant game too!

Agree with the above – Monkey Shoulder is very run-of-the-mill, you can do better for £30. Not tried the Chivas.

I’d go for a Jura or maybe a Talisker Stormy if it’s on offer anywhere (but then I prefer the more peaty end of things).

Love it when this stuff comes around and us IT bods are the target for disgruntled employees. Use your computer correctly and there is no issue!!!

This attitude is brilliant – “I’m right, and if you don’t do things my way, you’re wrong” 😀 . I don’t think anyone would have a problem if things were explained (e.g. what the alternative is to using folders to organise mail), but if you’re supporting a system you can’t just shout down users for “doing it wrong”.

IT is a business support function – you are supplying a service to the company workforce. Just because you have a monopoly on that service, doesn’t mean you are immune to listening to your customers’ needs / requirements.

The people I play online with are on Xbox360, so a 360. Find out what your mates have got and get the same thing…

If you don’t have any gaming mates, then there isn’t a lot in it. Some platform exclusives (Halo, Uncharted) but I’d say the majority of titles are cross-platform nowadays. So comes down to what sort of games you’d like to play and maybe controller preference!

DA 1200 ES looks almost ideal – I’d have to route the PS4 via optical to the front but otherwise perfect. And cheap on ebay too 😀

Sound codecs – I don’t need 3D processing, only codecs that I definitely need support for are DTS and Dolby Digital (from the PS4). The PC can be configured with the right bit of software so no worries there.

Don’t need ARC support for the TV. I was planning to run sound from the TV using regular RCA audio – that’s the only output it has (Sony KDL 32L4000)

EDIT: Thinking about it, it’s a pretty big box. Part of the reason for going silver was to match the DVD player, but that’ll need to move to make room. So I’ve had a change of heart, BLACK it is!

    The current lineup is:

Cervelo S5 (with roadie and TT setups floating around – spare wheels, bars, etc)
    Intense M9
    Intense Tracer 2
    Intense Tazer

Currently looking to downsize the Tracer2 and Tazer and maybe replace with a Carbine, in an effort to appease my bike-constrained housemates.

Also have an Intense Socom frame in the attic and am rebuilding an old ’99 Kona Chute with some gold Psylos 😆

Christ almighty, sounds like a nightmare! I find the only way to get through Ikea is to fill one of those bags with soft toys at the start, then put them in various draws waiting for people to open them. I was particularly proud of the lobster-in-stove-pot I put together on the last trip 😀

This also seems appropriate, having just popped up on my news feed:

^^^ agree 100% with Edd. Wireless seems like it’ll just mean more things to charge, with no real benefit – running Di2 cables is phenomenally easy and can be entirely internal if the frame is set up correctly, so I don’t see any real benefit to wireless. Maybe a bit of weight loss?

Next thing I’d like to see is swapping out the brake lines for electronic cables aswell – have a servo in the caliper to activate the brakes and just transmit a signal from the lever. Obviously running out of battery would be a bit of an issue though… 😈

If you’re talking simple models, flat ground and constant speed then there won’t be any difference between 26, 29 or any other wheel size.

Correct. So that’s your starting model.

Next step would be to add in “number of accelerations”, some way of quantifying the time difference due to getting back up to your constant speed (at the start, after tight corners etc). That would tip things in the 26ers favour. For the basic model above, there are zero “accelerations” so 26=29.

After that you might add a “rollability” factor, i.e. the gain for a larger wheel over a given “roughness of terrain”. Again for a smooth course 26=29, as roughness increases so does the 29er advantage.

That would get you a reasonable way towards modelling a twisty, rough course at a constant altitude. If you wanted to try and track weight, you’d need to add in a height variance over the course distance.

It’s definitely do-able, but would get complicated quite quickly. Also, it would be very difficult to come up with the equation constants (e.g. by how much a given 90 degree corner slows down a 29er vs a 26er). Without a real-world testing ground (unlikely) it would be quite hard I think…
