    Hey mboy….
The head angle is a touch steep bout 71.. i was intending to run slightly longer forks than i am doing which has affected both head angle and bb height, it still rides well though but i’d go about 2 degrees slacker next time, there’s always something though when you build your first, which brings me back to wanting to do another….

rawtenstall on the east lancs railway…. but that only runs from heywood.. and with steam engines! and probably doesn’t count as an actual railway line, more like a big trainset.

@mboy- “Custom (built by me on a Dave Yates frame building course probably, if I could get a place!) 853 hardnut hardtail,” that’s what i ride! finished in metalflake black with vanilla32s saint cranks, hope brakes and hubs, en521s, xtr, thomson, all in black!! and if you can get a place go on the course! I wanna go again, even if you don’t get much change from a grand!

If you’re after a cassette tool get the type with spanner flats on the outside and a drilling through the centre so you can pop your qr through to keep it in place in the lock-ring while you get a big adjustable on the outside.
As for stuff like bb/headset removal/installation i’d let a decent shop do the honours, right tools + skills = proper job! And get them to make sure the logo’s are straight on the headset!!

This was a staple when it came to amusing ourselves in the workshop at uni.
It’s legal so long as you use the hammer on the opposite side to the queen’s head. ha

Rode up there last sunday… that rock garden after the bench cut berm took me by surprise but bob fox took care of it for me, (not like that nooky little jump in the middle of the last set, hit that and landed odd chucking the bike).. Mint little location though..
Meant to be goin again for a session friday morning (10/11ish) if anyone’s about, I’ll be the one on a black metalflake self brazed 853 HT running 32Vanillas and saints casing the backslope of doubles.

Get them to face your bb an ht and press the headset cups in and fit the bb (and pop the crown race on the fork if it’s not split)) then build it yourself.

as for i 853….. well reynolds themselves say-
“The benefits of an air-hardening steel are particularly noticeable in the weld area where, unlike conventional steel alloys, strength can actually increase after cooling in air immediately after welding. This feature is a result of the fine grain structure due to the chemical compostion specified. 853 is heat-treated to give high strength and damage resistance.”
so yeah… you gets what you pays for.
Then i may be slightly biased riding a self built 853 steel hardtail?

Don’t even get me started on wooden bikes….
The surly’s a beast, but i’d feel like i was driving a monster truck down my local high street hitting the trails on it, not that that’s necessarily a bad thing…..

Thanks to the unique way the bbc is funded by the license fee they are able to subject me and you to endless self promotion about a crazy subversive rooftop gig by a band that at best only 15% of their audience are interested in…
and as for “secret rooftop gig” they’ve been banging on about them on radio 1 for two weeks. the entire thing’s a massive snooze-fest and bono is a goon, fact.
