Had a ride on one of these way back when and it felt great. Of course, that was compared with Mag 21's etc…

Black Park Pro here. The four sided designs I find a bit of a pain as you have to slide them over the top of the nipple rather than from the side which takes more time.

I have a very long Nitto Technomic (so it's flat but you can run it very high)I'm not using that I think is 100mm length. Will rummage in the shed this evening. Drop me an email if you're interested.

really really nice Mick – you just need to have the fork painted to match the panels ;-)

Depends on the tyre really. I've always managed with a floor pump, but in fact have just bought a compressor because I do a lot of them. I would say unless you have a fleet of tubeless bikes (or other uses for a compressor) it's probably not a necessary purchase.

I've been a long time Midge user, and I think these look like the perfect evolution, I like them a lot. Potentially one minor tweak to the drawing (if Brant agrees) and they will get two thumbs up from me at least. In the mean time for the OP, perhaps pop a wanted ad in the classifieds? I would normally have sets lying around but am tapped out at present… The junebugs and also the Origin8 bar look very similar to a Midge from what I've seen, though I don't think either have EU distribution.

I had a fine time despite a disappointing race. Really well run, nice location (except for the distance in getting there). 12 hour pairs, a few fast laps to start with then an irrepairable flat drained my enthusiasm along with my air. Got out for another couple of laps, steve did a few more, Think we did 11 in the end and retired to drink beer with the fine gathering of old friends there – nice to see you all!

I don't think 26" hardtails dead by a long shot, nor are they likely to be any time soon. However it is interesting to those of us who do like/ride big wheels that a number of elite racers are now winning and doing well on them – clearly not the disadvantage many of the naysayers believe. I agree that the whole 'argument' is tedious, ride what you like and like what you ride.

What's wrong with centrelock? I like em because they're lighter and stiffer so less liable to getting knockd out of true. You can get adapters which allow you to use 6 bolt rotors on centrelock hubs. If you want to talk about hub/rotor compatibility issues Hope is perhaps not the best company to hold up as your example, ex of four bolt rotors and now of three…

If you're asking the origins of the name…

Barrett came up with the alternative name The Pink Floyd Sound, after two Piedmont blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, two names he'd seen on the notes of a Blind Boy Fuller album

Exposure Lights have been supporting Twentyfour12 since day one. This year they will continue to offer free 24 hour lighting back up and charging at the event, not just for their lights but for any light.

They do look nice and I'd be interested in trying one. The head angle seems kinda steep for an FS bike, I wonder what fork it is designed around. Chainstays are unbelievably short, I suspect tyre/mud clearance is going to be minimal.

Also, I've found the gyroscopic stability of a 29er wheel means you can't work on trail/offset/rake alone.

Well, I think it's more that you're just working in a different arena of numbers, the combination of numbers which gives a desired effect with one size wheel won't with the other. You've still only got the same limited variable to play around with though.

Crazy price. Should be £90. Gorgeous forks Sam. Just lovely.

Thanks, and true enough on the price – let's call that 'Sam's STW only crazy special bargain price' – full retail may be more…

So who makes the "magic" fork?

I do of course ;) I got a few extra Hummingbird forks made up.

Using a 29" wheel in a fork with offset for a 26 wheel will give longer trail thus slowing the steering.

Not if it's shorter as this will negate some/all of the effect on the HTA of having the bigger wheel. My Hummingbirds actually have a slightly steeper head angle when using the rigid fork and 29" wheel than they do with a 26" wheel and 100mm fork – coupled with a fork with a bit more offset they have less trail and sharper sterring, which I feel is generally desirable with a rigid fork. It's all about an interplay between original fork length the frame was designed for, head angle, rake, and wheel size – in the end if it feels good then go with it :-)

The convention is to call it rake when the fork blades are curved, offset when it happens at the crown or dropouts, though the terms to all intents and purposes are interchangeable.

Using forks for a 26 wheel with a 29 wheel will give you the wrong trail as the offset should be different for 26 and 29 forks

True to an extent but not necessarily, depends what frame it's going on really and what kind of fork it was designed for. The concept of 'wrong' trail is not very helpful, I might like my steering a bit more snappy and fast while you prefer a bit more predictable and stable. You are right though that what you generally want for such a conversion (regular xc 26" bike to rigid 69er) is a short rigid fork (suspension corrected 26" fork, say 445mm, with a bit more offset to keep the handling tight and wheel away from your toes on smaller frames. Unfortunately there is only one such fork I know of which is available unless you go custom…

I like the frame a lot – not so big on the wheels.

Bono first approached me about the bike and described Lance to me as 'the greatest sportsman the world has ever known after Ali!'

Glad to know Bono is involved and has such an insightful appreciation for our sport…

Peregrine is never in stock because you buggers buy them too quickly – plus we had some QC issues with the first batch, now unavoidable delays with production due to lug availability. Anyhoooo – I'm trying to get shot of my personal large touring build because I never ride it. If Ton or anyone else is interested drop me a mail.

whats wrong with having a mtb set up and bending the lever to fit the bars? Can't see a problem, bending levers is easy enough with care. Hmmmm I wonder.

The clamp diameter is different, that's the hard part. Though bending levers is not really a great idea either, that's one thing you don't want snapping unexpectedly… Also you don't have any 'hoods' position. Would just be nice id someone would make a proper drop bar hydraulic lever…

Raoul speaks the truth. I generally route cable all the way under the bar tape and then out. Depending on frame size you may struggle with the length of the inner doing it this way though.

    Sam

Oh, and fisha, for your purposes I think you would be best off just using Avid BB7 road calipers.

    Sam

The problem with cable actuated hydraulics is that they overheat readily.

The question of wanting discs using road levers is a much more relevant one. BB7 roads work great in most conditions except those which cause rapid pad wear. In such cases you need to stop many times on a ride to wind the pad adjuster in. I would love to see a hydraulic lever to fit road diameter bars – I know people (the king of sweden) who've done it by modifying mountain levers but it's not easy. Magura also made a road lever to match their hydraulic rim brakes but they're very rare.

Bigos can be awesome but I imagine the canned stuff you buy in the supermarket is not great, if you are in a restaurant worth a try. Dill pickled cucumbers (ogurky) are excellent.

tim, I believe the mud x 29er only comes in one sixe – i believe it's designated a 2.0 but is on the narrow side.
