Well the nice thing about most current 29er frames is that you can use either regular 29 or 27+ tyres in the same frame.

As for punctures, consumers want it all, big volume, grippy, fast rolling, light, tubeless ready and puncture resistant – something’s gotta give… That said I’ve been riding some of the lightest 29+ tyres out there (Panaracer FBN) and haven’t flatted them yet – but I ride fairly tame trails without big rocks.

If it looks like a troll and smells like one….

Everyone has their own trails and preferences – for some folks a fat bike suits them perfectly, others just like them time to time. Looks like you’ve come to the conclusion they are not right for you. Fair enough, but making a blanket statment like ‘utter shite’ is trolling…

This frame designer is 6’2″ so pretty much all our XL frames are designed to fit me.

Would have thought it’d be pretty straightforward to drill four holes in some flat Al plate and then you can get it to the exact height you want.

@dsb181 I’m using a Shimano CX70 on an otherwise 11speed Ultegra drivetrain and it works fine. Not quite as slick shifting as the proper 6800 mech but certainly more than usable. An inline cable adjuster helps with setup. Otherwise you are looking at a seat tube mounted cable pulley like the problem solvers, I used one of those on the prototype frame and it worked well. I believe Shimano are due to bring out an 11 speed version of the CX70.

I’m biased but I love mine. I’ve had to re-evaluate my answer to the eternal ‘if you could only have one bike’ question. I’ve raced CX on it, it ridea great as a foul weather road bike with 35s and guards, and is a lot of fun on local trails with big (~42mm) tyres.

They are about as light as you can make a steel disc raked CX bike which passes safety standards without getting into very expensive tubing. IIRC the Ritchey costs more than twice as much, and is made in the same place fwiw.

I have a couple of demo bikes on the go, an L and XL – where are you?

Afraid I’ve not got a beard but I do a strong line in personality disorders….

If you have any other questions just let me know.

Sure, I use a 2.4 Racing Ralph on 45mm Dually in the back of my Swift and it’s great.

Don’t some downhillers use 1×7 because it’s lighter?

I thought they did it to use a shorter freehub body and thus wider flange spacing and a stiffer, stronger wheel.

I do it, bit of a pain but worth it. As per blobby’s point, you will see bits of Al embedded in the Al brake pads, clamping these against your carbon rims is not a great idea. Plus, depending on the exact type of carbon pad used, they really don’t work well on Al rims, and vice versa…

I appreciate that, but it’s stupid. Spending £50 getting a service on a bike which really needs new chain, cassette and cables is a complete waste of money.

Gary Fisher Paragon in about 2003. It was the first 29er I ever rode and the first time I ever really felt at home on a mountain bike – it just felt so much more in proportion. From there I bought a Rig, which I designed a rigid fork for. Since that it’s been Singulars all the way…

Seems reasonable to me. I don’t really understand ‘levels’ of servicing. Some bikes you can ‘service’ in 10 minutes – quick clean, lube, adjustment, check everything is tight and running as it should be. Others need a full overhaul. Giving the one that needs a full overhaul a quick once over helps no one, and vice versa. I prefer to just charge for the work done.

I like it as a break and variety from riding. Definitely helps with general cardiovascular fitness and hits glutes and hamstrings in a way cycling doesn’t. You burn a lot of calories in a short time. I prefer running to riding when it’s wet too (looks out window, might run today…)

Bit naive from Albasini, if you go to the front too early the wiser riders are going to use you like they did.

Yes he did too much on the final two climbs, but the advantage was minimal and no one was willing to come through. Had they all started looking at each other they’d have been caught. Albasini is not a rider who gets in these positions much – probable podium in a monument is better than somewhere in the bunch.

For clarity, anyone can pay by bank transfer. After you complete the purchase you will have received an invoice with bank details on it, you can make a transfer to that account. As it’s in Germany there may be charges involved, but depending on your bank for a SEPA payment it should be free or close too it. The other option at present is PayPal as you discovered, and we should have card payment up and running in the new shop shortly.

Yes, it was a one off made for Steve Day – essentially a Swift in Columbus Spirit tubing with a 44mm ID headtube. I would like to be able to offer custom steel frames on a more consistent basis but it’s a matter of finding the right builder.

Would 3″ tyres be about the same size as 2.3″ tyres? I doubt it. Or is the orange 27.5? In that case, the OD would probably be similar but I expect you may still struggle for width clearance unless you have loads already.

Do you also have to rotate the bars to an outrageously jaunty angle to make the Cube tape line up?

I’m a fan of Fizik tape – I think it’s called performance, fairly sturdy, grippy and cleanable.

Anyone who doesn’t think some bar tapes are more difficult to fit than others has clearly never tried to fit Brooks Cambium tape

You understand what kickstarter is right ? its not a shop.

your backing a business and some business’s fail – several fail to deliver in a timely fashion.

Exactly, Kickstarter is an investment platform – not a pre-order. Investments can and usually do take longer to come to fruition than first expected/hoped. Some fail altogether. All this is set out in the Kickstarter T&C’s.

Singular Rooster! Paid on Kickstarter April 2014 thinking they were arriving October 2014 actually received it August 2015

A kickstarter project is a bit different from ordering a stock item though, this was made clear from the start and you were kept up to date with what the issues were and why I was facing them. It was just as painful for me as it was for you, possibly even moreso…

Second bigbeard. Surely any decent LBS will be happy to swap out a cassette or chainring on a new bike to give you the gearing you want?

Great for touring, sporty road riding I’m not so sure.

Saw a set up at the London Show of SRAM double tap shifters running Rohloff shifting. Really nice set up, it requires a specific click box, can’t recall the name.

Core strength to just sit and pedal a push bike? Really, if you need great core strength to do that, then I think you’re doing something wrong.

If you think you push the pedals and pull on the bars without using your core you are either doing something wrong or putting out bugger all power…

As for chain pitch Shimano did try 10mm pitch for a while…

While logic would tend to suggest that smaller riders need shorter cranks, most studies on the area suggest that even wide variances in crank length have a marginal effect on power output. Therefore it doesn’t make sense for manufacturers to produce a huge array of crank lengths when the extreme sizes are only going to have limited sales.

Somewhere around 70″ is good for most road riding, so 42/16, 45/17, 48/18

One tooth on the back is really pretty noticeable, as you’ve got the 48 I’d say try an 18t freewheel. Also, as it’s SS rather than fixed you can just let it coast on the downhill so a little smaller gear is not a bad thing.

Hadn’t heard of those sorts of issues. Know a couple of people who’ve been using them years without any problem. Is this a new thing? Confined to G3?

It took a lot of patience and looking but I recently picked up a used but still in good shape Powertap G3 complete wheel for £250.
