rear carrier with 2 bikes on my 2.0 diesel picasso drops the fuel consumption by about 5mpg on a 400 mile steady run on french motorways

BUT on french tolls I have seen a car hit the low level height bollards at about 30mph with bikes on the roof there were tears there I cringed

Jon tbh I have to disagree or perhaps I go to the right places and you go to the wrong, paris ???

I have a place in the Haute Vienne and the area is immaculate and well looked after the locals are realy proud of the area.

    perhaps we have different experences

We have a 4 bed detached and we get through about 1500ltr about £1k a year but to be honest we do use a wood burner hell of a lot

Also I only have about 100mm of loft insulation and no cavity wall insulation both of which are to be sorted at the end of the month, oh and it is a new boiler so very efficient

    ex 456 owner here

I wanted a Soul ( I had a simple at the time) but at the time they were £470 and the 456 was £125, twas a case of money talks bullshit walks £345 was a hell of a chunk of money to save.

    So a 456 it was

The 456 made me ride well beyond my performance envelope and I crashed alot, it handled superbly but felt harsh and to be honest the back end hurt.

Anyway I got a deal on a CEN Soul and snapped it up sold the 456 for £95 a £30 loss in 2 years cannot be faulted

So the Soul I always ride in a higher gear than on the 456 the handleing is er not safer for me because the ride is smoother and it does not kick me off when I push too hard.

Bang for the Buck 456, but if you want a quality smooth ride with a bike that just winds up and goes everywhere The Soul wins

    Go for a Soul

I’ve just switched to a Purgatory up front and a Captain out back on my FS trail bike, the switch is from Nobby Nic / Racing Ralph.

I find the Specalized combo grippier and nearly as fast.

    If any of that helps

I have done exactly the same and I agree

    The truth Del tells

saladodger of this parish went to a spaced freehub from a ss specific and despite using quite nice bits found the combination actually heavier.

The wheel I built was XC717 rim on a Hope s/s hub with a Surly sprocket

With hindsight I would of stuck to the WI freewheel on a DMR hub it worked trouble free for years

Buy cheap get cheap at the very least use fire rated downlighters about £12 each from Newey and eyre

I do not ponce about with 12v lights because 50w is 50w and there is no money to be saved in running costs infact when you also pay for transformers they cost alot more

Have a look at led downlighters phillips do some good ones ( againat neweys)

CG I will give you a call lets get you sorted ;o)

    Hi Northwind

    the card is a #2

I guess that because the cards are quite cheap nowadays its worth a punt

I went from a #2 to a #10 on my helmet camera and it was a great improvement for video use
