What size Nomad is he after?? I’m guessing XL from the OG post..

We’ve got an XL 29er at C6 Bikes in Cambridge. This was ordered in March time and arrived a week ago. We have two large’s on order now due August. The bike was leaked before launch which led to unprecedented pre orders. Worth the wait though!

Obviously not running high enough res as I couldn’t read it!

You can run the current Five with 2x, I’ve ridden one with a 2×10
Set up so I know it works! See no reason why a triple wouldn’t work

Rocky Mountain Instinct BC edition. Full carbon, 130/140 travel and 9 geo settings via ride 9 system.

Yeah, the stand over is much better on the new frames. The dropped and braced tt is a big improvement imo

Yeah, 20in is correct. The large only has an 18.5 so although roomy in the tt seat post extension is the issue. I’m 6ft 1 and couldn’t ride a large…comfortably

I too had a 650b trance, and also just didn’t gel with it for some reason. I’ve got a 2016 Orange Five now and it’s a brilliant bike, it just feels ‘right’ both in terms of the sizing and geo. You can keep your complicated linkages and all those bearings if a single pivot bike can be this good.

Great bike for going everywhere fast and loose, but that’s about it. I found it far too focused and unforgiving generally. The Scalpel that I’ve replaced it with a much better all round bike IMO.

Just back from two weeks in Le Grand Bornand and really impressed. Probably one of the lesser know resorts, but we loved it. The main village is at the foot of the col de la colombiere so a tick in the box for some classic tour climbs. In terms of mtb trails, there are loads. I bought a map for 3 euros and there’s 600k of trails on it, mostly xc, there are a couple of blue and green dh runs but the xc stuff was much more interesting IMO. You can ride the Roc Des Alps route from 2013 as well if you’re up for an epic ride! Chamonix is only 30 miles away so you can still do a day trip if you want to do the bigger resorts. We went there twice. It’s lovely, but I’m glad we didn’t stay there as it’s much busier. Great outdoor swimming pool for the kids as well in le Grand Bornand village.

Ok, so given this bike is likely to be super popular, what are the chances of actually getting one in May via a pre-order? given that you’ll be holding £2,500 or my hard earned? Is there a initial run volume guaranteed?? And will we know when that has been spoken for?

    I think you’d be lucky to get 40+ from a 2005 525d tbh. I would suggest 35 is more realistic, assuming you’re careful. I’ve got a 2007 X5 with the 3.0d engine and I can just get 30 if I’m super careful. more often it’s nearer 25/26.

Ok, so we’ve run out of wheel sizes and the marketing guys have decided that we now all need upside down forks – brilliant! The formula seems to be; think of something that has been like that for as long as you can remember, flip it on its head and convince the world we’ve been doing it wrong all along.

I’d check they are converting the unit of measure (m3 or ft3) into kWh’s correctly. Also, check how many digits of the meter dial they were billing prior to the change against how many they are now.

You can do a sanity check yourself by using the formula below. You say it’s ft3 so that’s the formula provided below. for m3 just drop the 2.83 multiplication in step 1. Note the CV and the temp and pressure figure will vary slightly so it may be different on your bill.

For ft3 meters – multiply units used by 2.83.
Multiply by the temperature and pressure figure (1.02264).
    Multiply by calorific value (39.25)
Divide by 3.6 to get the number of kilowatt hours (kWh)

Looking for something suitable for kids under 6. Doesn’t have to be Eurocamp but something with a good range of onsite facilities is preferable. Beaches over mountains.

Rode at Afan on Wednesday afternoon and that was a mistake. Trees coming down everywhere and one literally nearly right on top of me. First ride I’ve ever done where I’ve been genuinely concerned for by wellbeing.

The bike fit I had done recommended 10mm more saddle height for an MTB than a road bike for me.

    I’m 6′ 1 and on a large emd 9 and I can’t imagine a medium being anywhere near large enough…

My Niner EMD 9 is the best hardtail I’ve ever owned, regardless of wheelsize. However, It doesn’t replace a full susser for me. I used to have an Anthem 26 as well, and it just didn’t feel right once I’d tried a 29er. Also an FS 29er with 100mm of travel is a completely different beast to a 26 FS. It will go further, faster IMHO.

Plus 500. Made 50% on these since I invested a couple of months back. Get in before results are published at the end of the month as if rumours are correct, they are going to be good. Also tipped by the telegraph. As always dyor though!

    Still trying to get my head around the science of this whole thing. Just seems mad that you can pedal a push bike to over 100mph. So, if I’ve got this right;

    – he’s pulled to 65mph by the truck.
    – once released from the truck he’s got to accelerate an additional 35mph to get over 100 and then beyond.
    – so in actual fact with regards to the effort involved, it should be no harder than getting a time trial bike or equally large geared bike up to 35mph from a standing start?

Obviously the immense speed brings it’s own challenges etc, but essentially if you’ve got nuts big enough it should be possible for an average cyclist to achieve a similar speed. Or am I oversimplifying this?!

I’ve gone cross eyed trying to keep count of the Singletrack niche’s in that film. Beards, wood chopping and hip flasks are all present and correct though. I was just waiting for him to drive off into the sunset in a Skoda Octavia estate at the end..

Look on your bill for the meter serial number, this will also be on your meter face somewhere. The serial number that appears on the supplier invoice is your import meter. The other one is the export meter.

If you find a 19inch marin long, I’d definitely say go for a medium. I’ve had a similar issue sizing up a stumpjumper FSR 29er. They are long in the the top tube. I’m 6ft 1 and have ordered a large. Having said that, there seems to be a growing trend of getting longer frames and just running a super short stem..

Basically, maintaining anything over 10 mph is very good going for the mere mortal. Last time I did it we completed in just over 12 hours in dry conditions inc stops.

I’ve been running 1x set ups for a while now and to be honest, I’m gradually moving back to 2x set ups. I just find the range too restrictive despite the well documented benefits – you just can’t get a low enough gear with 1x IMO. fitting a smaller chainring obviously helps, but then it all gets a bit spinny at the top end. The 40t cassette adaptors help, but as other posters have noted you’re actually still losing a fair bit of bottom end.

    1. In the granny ring to largest sprocket on the cassette check the chain just clears (3mm) the inside plate on the mech cage – adjust with low limit screw
    2. In the middle ring to largest sprocket, check the same clearence again. Adjust with the barrel adjuster on the shifter
    3. In the largest chainring to smallest sprocket on the cassette check the outside of the cage just clears the chain. Adjust with H limit screw.
