Vdubber’s right about the wet…saying that I don’t think I’ve ever ridden it in the dry but I do remember an exciting night ride down Cavedale 😀

One of the Dirty Girls club recently bought a Merlin Malt (?) the spec was fantastic for the price. She’d be about 5.5″-5.6″ and bought a 15″.

I assume you had to be there then 😉

Some years the entire Dyfi enduro course looks like that … only with added rocks, oh and a little bit steeper.

You can buy my Diamondback if you like Chris. 18″ which is why it’s hardly been ridden and why it’s going.

I’ve put some shimano M525 discs on it, decent width bars and a sensible length stem. It’s also now a 1×9 speed, they come as a ss but whoever spec’ed them and chose the gearing had never ridden a ss 29er.

£300, it’s like new condition wise just with some better bits on. If you want a pic or any proper details email stuart@forestfreeride.co.uk

Brack, the Sarn Helen will take you from N to S Wales (down the middle) through Snowdonia, Cambrians and Beacons. You can get a map pack from http://www.mtbwales.com for under £7.

I’ve got an NS Bitch with 170mm 66’s on … it’s an 07, I believe the 08 onwards was revised for shorter travel forks.

A Norco Manic or Torrent might fit the bill, Pauls Cycles were doing some at the right money … one of ’em has a 150mm spaced rear end though so make sure you check that out.

Mamadirt thanks for the link, trouble is now I’m looking at Profile cranks :D. The Scratch on CRC is the proper job not a copy…just that they can’t be sold under the Banshee flag in the UK due to Halfords owning the right to the name…they even come in a Banshee box.

I had something simular…turned out to be a crap wheel QR. The thread on the end nut wasn’t square with the shaft so even though the wheel felt tight under heavy braking the wheel could move a little…causing the brake to judder.

Hiya fellas…if anyone is half serious about the idea please send me an email stuart@forestfreeride.co.uk

It would be Wales based, you’ed have to be self sufficient, be willing to bivy/kip rough and be able to navigate. Sorry I’m sounding all a bit cloak and dagger but if we can get enough interest it’ll be a goer.

    Cheers

When instructing I’m always a little surprised how many people arrive with clips and leave vowing to buy some flats. I’m also quite disturbed by just how many blokes send their good ladies out on sh1te plastic bear trap things…no grip whatsoever but still rough enough to remove skin 😥

We’ve got an L200, it’s great, does everything you could want (unless that happens to be 150mph and/or 60mpg). 2wd, 4wd with high and low ratio. I haven’t managed to get it stuck yet…yes we’re on a farm not Streatham high street so it does get used as intended.

If your going to be heading down from north to south and are looking for something with a great descent after a not too bad climb then you’ed do well to call in at Machynlleth and ride the ClimachX trail. It’s about 5 miles north, near Corris…the trail is around 15k total and the final descent is around 4k.

Don’t expect any kind of trail centre though…stock up in Mach’

Saw them in the late 80’s. There was a massive gong on stage which Lux climbed onto, gave a good whack then promptly fell off backwards… great gig, second only to the Ramones.

If your doing it yourself then invest in a polishing kit, they used to include 2 or 3 different mops and grades of soap. ..expect to knacker up atleast one electric drill as the bearings on the chuck aren’t designed to take the side loadings that polishing will dish out.

Even with the above expect it to be a long, tedious and dirty job. For what it’ll cost I’d track down a local metal polisher. The one’s I’ve used in the past used to charge about £50 for a motorcycle swinging arm, so I’d estimate £60-£90 for your SC. They will also make a far better job of it than is possible DIY.

If you are going to have a go then most motorcycle shops will sell you an aluminium polishing kit but they may have to order it. Should cost about £25.

There’s an article in this months Dirt…they had an Orange 5 polished by Cardiff Metal Polishers, phone number is 02920 867837 looks a top job.

    Hope thats some help
