Heard good things about mint. Hope you enjoy it. I’m just too much of a Ubuntu fanboy to try it!

Personally I wouldn’t keep it on. I don’t wish to scaremonger, its more my personal opinion.

All I can think about are the zero-day exploits that exist and people are just waiting to use once people start to lull into a sense of security after everything didn’t combust all of a sudden. An unsupported unpatched OS will be surprisingly easy to anyone with a linux machine and a willingness to Google. I feel so sorry for those XP shoptills you see everywhere.

    But I don’t wish to scaremonger…

I stayed at one of the NHs, was clean, furnished, quiet and dark. Couldn’t complain, I am a student though so I’m used to a hostel with a hay mattress and a bucket in the corner.

I gave my grandparents a Linux machine for this reason. He still went to their website and downloaded the software which would ‘fix’ the problem, it just would never install 😀

Do you really need a windows machine?
    Chromebook? http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/chromebooks/hp-14-q032sa-14-chromebook-21937179-pdt.html
£250 and we’ve found it brilliant for the things you listed.
Lots of threads on here about them

I’ve given up recommending chromebooks to non technical users(no offence). Only IT people seem to want them! Not the intended audience!

Personally not a fan of HP. They have a bad rep of falling to pieces. Their association with dee beats somewhat annoys me too.

Have a look in John Lewis for any that might be on sale/in that price. They all come with a 2 year warranty. Maybe see if you can go for an Intel i3 processor. Not that I have any recent experience of this but I’ve kind of lost track of AMDs purpose in the processor market.

Other than. That loads of storage and enough memory for your general use.

    Sounds very familiar…

Have you tried asking the teachers? You aren’t going to get anything through email as their not likely to sign off the end of their own careers. You might be able to get something out of them verbally. They probably aren’t the happiest of bunnies if its a target oriented environment (experience).

Personally I don’t believe you should stop her from doing them. I too always have a thing for people getting something they haven’t earned/deserve. However it’s life I guess!

Think of it in another way? Sounds like your daughter worked really hard recently. Have her do them under the least amount of pressure possible, she’ll do really well and you can reward her. She’ll have proof of how hard she’s worked.

It will set her in good stead for the next 10 years of her sitting exams every summer (I tried looking for an emoji to represent this but there isn’t one for hysterical insanity). Trust me she’ll need it(the recognition that is).

I love my Anker, I have the 10,000mAh one, its faultless, I use it to power a Raspberry Pi and 64 LEDs through the 2 USB ports 🙂

Don’t fall for the solar/battery combo ones, IME they’ve been absolute poppycock, Have a Powerbee one and it puts out all of 2mA

What Jamie said. I’m really hoping that there’s an MBP refresh in June. Macrumors seem to believe that their making a 12″ Air if that’s what you’re into. I think.

I’m coming out of uni and have wanted one for 5 years, the thought of spending that whilst I’m still a student scared me though. I can almost feel the unibody 😀

Anyone else got this on a pinned tab in chrome? Just me?

    ryderredman
    Free Member

It’ll still be in memory, don’t see why it would stop playing. Its not like its a connection which closes when you stop viewing the tab. You’ve loaded the image so it shall play on loop to your browsers content. Videos don’t stop when you aren’t viewing the tab?

Btw not a web or soft dev (I’m a Networker). So I only expect this is how it works.

If they could stop making bikes I want to buy that would be amazing.

Not a very good business model though

Well I want electronic gearing that is wireless….why isn’t stuff like di2 on road bikes wireless? I’ve read an equivalent version is on the way for mtb (wired not wireless). Weight saving on cables, cleaner looking bikes. No faff with internal cabling, probably more aero, you could build the small shifter buttons into the bars or grips. Maybe the power draw means batteries need to be too big or heavy

Wont go into that. Lets just leave it at expense, nevermind the horrible horrible complications!

I’m rather a novice when it comes to indexing, getting it correct for me is mostly down to luck. PB always say to make sure your barrel adjuster is at its loosest then start indexing from a gear in mid range. Someone will be here soon to correct me 🙂

I went through this yesterday. I’m not earning and wont be for a while, I owe them £700 from them having the wrong tax code. It’s not too bad, I’m paying it back over 3 years so around £20 a month.

I’d like to think it hasn’t! But then again. Yeh I most probably will post it on here. Just a bit shocked and feel like a bit of a pleb I didn’t make it past the group exercises.

Thanks for the words of wisdom so far

Chewkw – I can’t decide whether you are or are not anything to do with HR! If you are and they give me feedback would you mind if I sent you it if I can’t decode the secret meaning behind it?

But then I guess you tech bods don’t really get statistical analysis when it’s applied to something like human capital.

My head processed it like a UDP packet received out of sync if that helps?

I would be drinking black gold.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose! Haha

We only did group exercises, there were no interviews so there was definitely something about me which they didn’t take a fancy to. They ended up axing each member of our 5 person team, so I’d imagine there was something we did during the group session that didn’t portray their core values.

Thanks for your responses everyone. chewkw & IA I dont know how to feel about it now! I think I somewhat feel better about it as from what I’ve gathered, somewhere in IBM someone technical is interested in me and my skills.

IA – I totally get what you mean, I don’t think they will even tell me where I would be working if they were to offer me a place. I’ve had an interview with a (nameless) company and they’ve told me where I’d be based and what I’d be doing should I get an offer.

:O footflaps! I’ve never thought about it that way, bit weird to think of it that was though as seems a bit of a waste of time for them, what with all the “time is money” lark.

Thanks IA, can only hope that this might happen! They don’t have my CV so no chance of me mentioning I ride bikes unless I get to mention it. The format sounds rather comparable to that which they’ve emailed me. Thanks again

Curious about which way that went, either the students embarrassed themselves? Or the expenses card holders drank them away with the might of the company card?

Sadly its not an overnighter mikewsmith! But thanks though, will remember that should I go on any
