I wouldn’t be looking to carry out any upgrades just use as it comes, thinking the 805 2019 for the price is good value?

If I could pick up the 2018 version cheaper this could be a good option?

Would I notice much difference on the 529 compared too 629?

Clockwork looks good but cheaper options prob better value?

The decision I think has to come down to the Orange or Onza, concerned about the comments on the Onza regarding my intended use tho

Originally looked at the Voodoo Bizango, then there was a good deal on the Whyte 805 which I missed out on, then same with the Whyte 629 which both looked better option than the Voodoo.

The orange was suggested hence looking into this as £800 seems good price, I haven’t looked at the Boardman.

I wish I had been quicker to get the Whyte 629.

Yeah my use will be light trails, out with the kids, fitness.

800 was my top end range but if 10% off that is manageable.

It’s not one I’ve come across before, better than the clockwork then?

Looking at sizing 19” would be ok for 6ft

Someone suggested an orange 109 29 2019 in an earlier post but not available in my size and was £900

Just noticed this one around £800? Orange clockwork 27.5 2019

I can’t source a 629 or 801 for size and price so 805 is the best deal out of those 3.

The 805 is 27.5, bizango 29 am I going to notice the difference, Whyte does seem to be all 27.5 with the exception of a couple 29 ranges. The 905 I believe is 27.5 also, just much thicker tyres

629 was on my list mentioned earlier but can’t find it in a large for the £775 price Edinburgh bike co is doing it for…2018 model

Something I’ve not thought too much about, that was one of the main differences between the 801 and 805, 805 ready, 801 compatable rims. Other than fork being 120 and 130mm

801 was also decent at £600

    ry33

The bizango does get great reviews, only negative that I’ve seen on it is that the paint job on it is poor and chips very easily.

I originally had the 801 2018 as was £600 discounuted, the 805 at £100 more appeared better buy out those too.

Agree paying more for name but £50 more seems ok, not the original £900 price. Not sure how often the bizango gets a discount just know it’s been down at the £530 range before

    ry33
    Free Member

I think I may just go with the 805 as seems a good option for the price prob not worth the original £900 but £700 is decent

    ry33
    Free Member

Orange also nice bikes but higher price than I want to go, don’t have my size anyway.

The 805 seems good at £700 price just wondering more if it’s worth the extra compared to the bizango especially if I can get it around £550

    ry33

I had looked at Vitus but no one stocks them locally to take a look.

The other 2 I can look at and test locally.

I do like the 805 better, but can see the Bizango has great reviews and value for money especially if picking up for around £550 mark.

The Whyte 905 gets great reviews but is more than what I need, therefore next step down is the 805 2018, and for £700 thought it was a good deal.

I had a look for the 629 2018 but cant find in my size or price

Appreciate there will be all views and opinions on all consoles but for me the choice is only down too PS4 or switch.

xbox I just don’t like in general I’m on the PS side 🙂

    thanks again for all comments

    Thanks for all the comments

In all honest this is 100% about the kids I haven’t played a games console in years, actually don’t know when I’d get to play one. Can certainly play along with the kids  as people had mentioned during the winter months.

PS4 is just what I had in mind then I seen the switch reviews.

I think I’ll look to go with the view of switch now and see what develops in the PS world over the next 12-24 months.

I just know we are going to more than likely end up with both at some point and likely then sell on the switch but just wondered if I’d be better just going straight to PS4 now, that was the main reasoning around this post.

Switch appears to be a good starter

The reason for no Xbox is purely down to I always had PS and hated the Xbox controller from what I remember of it.

The games they would look to play would be…

Switch – Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey, Pokemon, Lego, Cars (Dinsey), Sonic

PS4 – Is same as above with out Mario and Pokemon, there is more lego games on PS4 but the ones they would want are on both platforms.

I just see the switch as a more entry level kids console over the PS4, obviously that is not the case and just my opinion

Yeah DS is popular no doubt about that, it’s just a thing I have with playing on small screens but it’s somrthing I’d probably consider for their bdays a DS  as can pick them up fairly reasonably priced.

I think I may end up siding with the switch and look at it all again next year to what the PS status is or might just pick up a 2nd hand PS4 in January for myself and slowly introduce them to it and switch for Xmas for them

    ry33

Tomfun id say that’s a sensible choice since they’ve experienced the wii and developed on to PS3.

I am all for PS4 but that’s prob as I want one back in the house but for the kids and fun and first console hmmm it’s a tough decision

    ry33

Never seen the DS appeal, I know kids love them, I think it’s down to I never really like a small screen when I was younger and preferred the console and TV set up.

the switch I suppose has the benefit of both worlds

I did also have that in my mind that the next PS version would more than likely be out within next 2 years.

This was quite a good watch regarding the cross climates running on an A3 FWD 225/45/R17

I’ve  re calibrated before when I had a tyre change the tyre warning light was on, so I can  re calibrate via the menu systems and I have to drive for something like 30 miles of motorway sppeds driving until it registers, cant remember the official writing but its something along those lines .

I presume then this would be the same for a wheel change/tyre change?

    ry33

Thanks for the comments and experiences.

TPMS hmmm this is something I’ll need to look into further then.

I presume that this needs reset or something every time the wheels are changed or would it be ok as long as by the  time the MOT comes along the original wheels are back on the car?

I know when I’ve had new tyres put on I need to re calibrate the system which is easy enough manually.

Regarding the below, I am not putting winter tyres on now, I was looking into various options and this was recommended as the best, I would rather have a look now and have a idea of what I am looking at before it gets to the time when stocks are low and prices are higher, I don’t plan to buy anything just yet, its just looking into options. All in all a pretty pointless comment

I’m all for forward planning ..but we are still in the best spring / summer we have had for years ..!

    Winter tyres in July …”

From what has been said i’ve Prob narrowed the list down too

    Bridgestones

    Goodyears

    Nokians

I thought the Vredestians might be a good option but not hearing much on them.

The continentals are a bit pricey when you can get the others cheaper and the Michelin’s have the worst fuel rating out the rest by a fair bit.

Just having a look at the alloys again for the same price as the Honda 16s new but defected (peeling lacquer) £200 and can be refurbished total price all in £420 (original 16s that come on the lowers spec tourers). I can get a set of wolfrace Milano for £400.

The good thing is that I’ve checked a couple of the awd estates that would probably be my next move in a couple years and it’s the same alloy fit therefore might get more use out of them.

might also be easier to sell if it comes to that rather than Honda specifics.

@paton thanks for the links the Nokian’s seem to get good reviews, as mentioned before they will all be suitable so just down to cost and ratings I guess.

Nokian is not a brand I have had before or known hence why I never added it to the  original list but they look a good option

Just spoke to my insurance company and there is no extra changes to take the 17s off and 16s on with winters, I just need to notify them in Nov and again in March, but no extra costs

    ry33

    Yes can get the Nokian’s

    Nokian WRD4 (Winter Tyre) Fuel C Wet Grip A 69DB £85.00

As for fitting £10 is great, These prices above inc the fitiing and balance.

The £60-80 was if I was using the existing 17s and swaping back and forth Oct and Mar that was the price a time.

I’ve no idea what the car has. I asked the honda supplier who is supplying the alloys about any issues and they didnt raise any, the majority of recommendations from my last post was to get a set of 16s alloys or steels and fit those for winter, again nothing raised from this, other that check with the insurance company.

The car is a 2016 so not had an MOT, the MOT would fall in March so I guess the 17s originals would go back on by MOT time.

Thanks for the info and it’s something I’ll have a look into. I havnt paid for the alloys yet so still time to change mind. I did look at using the existing alloys but £60-80 a time to change the tyres.

Thanks for the replies will have a read over the links

    Goodyear look a good option.

Regarding all seasons this was brought up and discussed in my last post. In summary I’ve put 3 new summers on the car few months back, I wish now I had just changed them all to a set of cross climates but I didn’t so have to move on.

The car was extremely  bad last winter and I’m not sure a cross climate would be the answer for the tourer, a dedicated winter might be best.

Its a gamble if I put cross climates on at prob about a cost of £450-500, and then find out it’s not suitable add that to the recent new tyres £240 and I might as well just go with Honda alloys I’ve  sourced and refurbished and winter tyres for £730 and I still get use of my summers.

The quotes locally I’ve been given are between £60-80 to do the tyre swaps a time. If it was £40 as chipster said then great. Also a few will not carry out the work if tyre are not on their systems.

I have managed to speak with an online supplier and they have some 2nd hand 2016/1017 official Honda 16″ alloys, that each have some lacquer peel. £199 for the lot  with brand new center caps, could be a good option.

Is there going to be any issue going from 17’s to 16s or just a case or swapping over? Will prob need to tell insurance. I will have these balanced when the tyres get fitted to them.

    ry33

regarding cross climates I  have read mixed reviews on them and with the poor performance of the tourer I just feel a dedicated winter tyre may suit better for the tourer.

If I had a SUV or 4×4 estate or a FWD that performed well in the snow then I would defiantly consider the cross climates for all year.

The car also just had new summers in the last few months so would like to get use out of them, there will be a cost and loss either way, but I just think a winter tyre would suit best, I may be wrong but some reviews have put me off for the tourer anyway

tried mr winter wheel already but they only do 2006 – 2012 civics. Replica is an option but would rather a pair of Honda’s I have seen on a civic, sometimes too hard to tell what replica’s will look like.

Any ideas where I can locate some 16″ honda alloys, looked on gumtree and ebay but nothing for collection near by or either not suitable or 17s 18s, found these below link for £110 a each, but these seem to be the only 16s form honda re-sellers

    https://www.hendyeshop.co.uk/16-orbit-alloy-wheel-08w16-tr0-604-33562-p.asp

Apart from a dent in my pocket every October and March for next couple years, being able to preserve the existing alloys for summer use, what else is a negative just getting a tyre fitter to swap over onto the existing alloys and back.

    ry33
    Free Member

Im not ignoring all advice. I have said I have taken it all on and I am looking into the costs of winter tyre/alloys, the costs of just using a fitter.  I am also looking at the options of replacement car options.

I have taken on all advise, and it has been great, I am not sure how you can say I am ignoring all advise, but just for you, yeah ok I will go with winter tyres and a fitter.

my other post was targeted at the question regarding the car no longer in production, I really dont see the point in you bring that into this on.

I also do quite understand what you mean “Also “but then again a golf is a true machine” trolling?”

    ry33
    Free Member

my options then will be buy 16s alloys and some winter tyres, buy just winter tyres and pay to have them changed over, or sell the tourer for a FWD, SUV, ALLTRACK that is more capable that the tourer.

Is there any negatives to having a garage change the tyres back a forth, in my case this will be only for next 2 years, apart from the cost of having this done.
