Yeah thats what I went to do set just the PSI to body weight but couldn’t find a good online guide for suntour.
The Rockshox online guide is brilliant
ry33Free MemberI suspect then with the channel drain they have done enough to cover themselves.
I guess I wait until the first mass downpour and film the action happening…then the fight begins to get them back, sue them or most likely with these idiots the home owner has to admit defeat and pay out to have it redone…I better start saving now, and purchase osmo floor barriers 😂
ry33Free MemberAnyone know if there is a governing body that you can get to check this kind of work?
Major concern now is that the level is not 150mm below the air vents. They have said a thin row of chips and the aqua channels mean it will be ok but tbh I am at the stage now I would like someone authorised to check the work.
ry33Free MemberIf they lay the geo fab on top of the sand, and place the mortar mix on to the geo fab…would this not be even worse?
This is what they plan to do.
ry33Free Memberyes it is very weird the way they are doing it, even more so that is more effort and time for them. Its simply a layer that doesnt need to be there, all it does is add risk to the sub base failing, and me coming back to them down the line.
What you have done is what I expected.
ry33Free MemberThey put the sand down, even though I told them I disagree with the method.
Sharp sand, and type 1 about the same cost so it cant be cost.
Its more work for them to put this sand in so I cant see how this is cutting corners.I’ve taken photos, got what they have said in writing and hoping this can be my come back, its too far in to tell them to leave site, as I cant have the garden left the way it is over winter and will prob take me until March/April at best to get someone to finish it off.
Plus I think the damage is already done on day 1 by not digging out what was under the old slabs.
ry33Free MemberIf anything the Geo Fab is meant is mean to to go under the Type 1 to stop the old mixing with the new Type 1 or so I have read.
I would have thought some of the sand would want to mix with the Type 1 fill the gap kind of thing.
ry33Free MemberI am just baffled as to why they are doing this, I can understand some sharp sand over the type 1 as you say fill the gaps in the type 1. absolutely no point in fabric between type 1 and sand.
Can anyone else comment if they are in the industry?
Anyone know how long after you can sue a company? I have no doubt that in 2-3 years I am going to have problems the way it have been layered and not excavated out
ry33Free MemberAnother question on this
There has been Type1 min 100mm whacked down. The next step I thought was a sand/cement mix mortar that the sandstone is laid onto, on a 1 by 1 basis.
However they are going to do the above, but before the mortar mix goes down, Geo fabrix is going down and sharp sand then whacked down? I’ve never heard of it being done this way?
ry33Free MemberSorry when I said lift the patio I just meant remove the old slabs, however the new patio will sit higher that the old as there will be min 100mm type 1, plus the sand/cement base and then the slab its self.
There is a vent that sits approx 4 inch above the existing patio, so that gap is going to be reduce by about at inch when the slabs are laid.
My concern is water going towards the house even with a channel drain running along it just seems a bad idea, even more so when the vent is on 1 inch above the slabs, that water straight into the underneath of the house.
I stated from start of the job drainage channel along the sleeper and run off towards that, but as they havent dug down and removed a layer the wont get the run off for the drain towards the sleeper now.
Am I right to be concerned or with the channel drain being there it will be ok?
Also on another point should they have laid Geo fabric between the old sand and new type 1, read online that this is a must. They have geo fabric but havent laid it so I suspect this is going onto of type 1 and below the sand/cement mix.
ry33Free MemberCannondale our of stock now at that price so I’ll prob keep eye out for the 529 coming down in price
ry33Free MemberI’d be looking at large
Orange clockwork 27.5 is also showing at £750 for 2019 model
As much as I want the Whyte think the Cannondale will be fine for the money
ry33Free MemberHi
Was looking at the sale prices just now and cannondale trail 4 2020 popped up at a good price.
What’s the best of the cannondale or Whyte below for the current price or does the voodoo seem the better option?
Bike will be used for out with my younger kids, exercising, light to medium local trails.
Budget wise I’ll go to £799 but obviously £550 Mark is a better option 🙂
Cannondale Trail 4 2020 coming in at £560 just now usually £700
Whyte 528 £999 but have seen for £799
Voodoo Bizango £550 down from £725
Thanks
ry33Free MemberCant say I have a preference in 27.5 or 29 tbh, they are closely matched at RRP £999 however the price difference on offer is £235, I did look for a 529 2018 but cant source one in Large
ry33Free MemberHey
Thanks for all the comments, the Earlyrider Trail Mx24 looks great but more than I want to pay out, but looks great.
I think I have pretty much settled on the Whyte 303, the 403 is about 18 months off in size.
The Cannondale Cujo 24+ looks good similar to the whyte 303
ry33Free MemberHi
This was my list below.
I went to try the bikes out and the Whyte 403 and frog 69 were too big.
Got this down to Whyte 303 or Frog 62 MTB. The Frog is £130 more expensive but come with forks where are the 303 doesn’t. They are both pretty much the same apart from that.
My son liked them both.
The Isla I can rule out as new range is out an is up to £899!!
Any advice on the 62MTB and 303 welcomed.

Suspension forksry33Free MemberHad a look at the Whyte sizing and 303 is 120-140cm and 403 min is 135cm.
Measured my boy yesterday and he was 130cm, will see how he gets in when trying them in the shop.
He won’t get the bike until Christmas and my youngest won’t be ready for his Beinn 20 until spring so might work out for the 403.
ry33Free MemberHe’s not doing anything very challenging, usually just local loops, trails through local forests and usually when I am out running with the dog, my youngest is usually with us too so it nothing major.
When he gets to age 10 the HT are all suspension forks and discs so just wondered if it was worth while making that step now and paying the extra to get HT over Rigid.
I’ll take him up to the bike shop and try him on the Frog 62, 69 MTB, Whyte 303, 403, to gauge size.
I think I’ll rule out the all rounders in the Frog 62 and Beinn 62, and focus on the others in my list as they are more MTB focused.
The Isla creig 24 I think I will also rule out based on the price alone at £699 the others will be as good for less money.
ry33Free MemberI do love the look of the 403 and price is great, will last him a god few years, he is on no hurry to get off his Beinn 20 so could always run them both until the time is right, the beinn 20 will be passed down to his brother anyway.
I think when I am up testing him on the Frogs and look at the Whytes too for a guide. Just seems a big jump 20 – 26 wheels and obviously bigger frame.
I’ll see what he is like on all 4 at the shop Frog 62, 69 MTB and Whyte 303, 403.
Still interested to see opinions on the below
Whats the main thoughts on going for a bike just now with front Suspension forks and disc, or just stick to an all rounder for couple years until aged 10, alternatively go for the Hoy or Whyte 303 with discs and if forks are needs look at an upgrade?

ry33Free Member@funkynick I think I’ll take him along to local bike shop and try out the Frog 62 MTB and 69 MTB as a guide
ry33Free Member@natrix meant to drop that one in, same as Whyte 303 no suspension forks but brakes however better priced

Suspension Forksry33Free Member@stevextc tbh all his mates have had a mix of bikes for under 8s, Hoy, Isla Frog, Wiggins etc this is the stage I am at carry on with an all rounder until age 10 then step into suspension forks and discs or make that step now.
The Whyte 403 would be my choice but need to check out his size against the specs as feel its too big a jump up

Suspension Forksry33Free Member@alan1977 thanks for info
Yeah that is my main consideration just now with the list I have, go for suspension forks or not.
ry33Free MemberI’d rule out the Voodoo one for him at his age as the weight is 16.4kg compared to the Whyte 403 at 12.7kg, however is a good deal with 20% off
Obrea MX24 Trail looks good but cant find the weight
Saracen Mantra 24 also looks good
I guess the first question is do I go for the first options on the list that are cheaper and all rounders, or go for a more MTB style with front forks, think once I can figure that out can look further.
ry33Free Member@weeksy no worries, I dont have my son’s height either. Thanks for your replies tho all helpful 🙂
@steve_b77 and @jamesy01 @alan1977 I will take a look at those, I narrowed it down to the list I had but worth a 2nd look overry33Free Member@ rossburton not really looking to buy 2nd hand and build
@weeksy thanks, looks fine for the bike hard to tell fully, any idea what height he was when you got the 403?There is no rush to get him off his Beinn 20 so I guess if 403 is better option and would maybe last him another year or 2 on top could be an option.
ry33Free Member@weeksy The Whyte 403 does look great and good price just concerned it might be to big a jump from what he has now
ry33Free MemberHe is probably average for 8 years old, he is slightly taller for his age, he is defiantly not small and light
ry33Free MemberI am really looking for a good all rounder spec wise, so I dont need to make any improvements. £1k is my max but ideally would like to pick up something that was originally £1k+ for around £700-750 no real preference if this is 2018 or 2019, 27.5 or 29
I think I will just consecrate on the Whyte 805 and 529 prices and see how they go. If the 629 drops anywhere near like the 2018 629 one did then I would jump at that.
ry33Free MemberI get what you are saying, but, I am in no real rush to buy, I work FT, have 2 kids, pets, kids clubs and other activities so not all the time in the world to cycle anyway, I would rather get a good deal for something that will see me the next few years, that rush into something.
The orange evo and 137 are nice but I want to stay under the £1k mark.
ry33Free MemberThe Bizango with a 20% which Halfords do from time to time is a great price, but if I can get the 805 or 529 down nearer the £700 mark it would be hard not to go with them.
Absolutely kicking myself that I missed out on the 629 2018 at the start of the year at £775. Can not find a large anywhere. If anyone happens to know of one lurking anywhere let me know
ry33Free MemberThe 629 seems higher level for what I need so unless it comes down a fair bit I can prob count that out.
Orange as I said before I can prob get similar for cheaper?? Or anyone think the Orange is worth the extra?
Really down to what price I can get the 805 or 529 for, I don’t have a preference over 27.5 or 29…would prob edge towards 29 if it came down to same price.
ry33Free MemberThe 629 would be preference however can’t see myself developing much more for next few years at least.
Last year’s 629 dropped to 750/800 mark but I missed out on it not sure if 2019 will drop as much it seems to have dropped to 1099 as the 2020 is out now.
I think the 805 would be good buy if can maybe get the 2018 for under the 2019 price.
How would the 805 compare to 529 is this
Mainly down to 27.5 and 29?Really like the orange but think for the price the others are as good better value
