Cheers tails will do. Looking to progress my career as i got a degree in electronic and electrical engineering in the summer but i’m finding it hard to get a better job as every where is looking for people with experiance of the job they are applying for. One if the things i do not have on my CV is any experiance of autoCAD so hopefull if i can get a little knowledge under my belt it will help my chances.

As Kit says check your contract as my last rental contract had a bit in it about the flat being kept wind and water tight and some stuff about the heating. when we called up to complain about a leak in the roof and a window not closing properly and mentioned the wind and water tight bit they had someone round the next day to get the stuff asseed and fixed as soon as so we could not with hold rent.

Thanks again for the updates coastkid and cynic if the roads are still like that round by the coast then i should be fine, however it has just started snowing again in Aberdeen.

Would this be worth a look if i wanted to try and teach my self how to use autoCAD?

do you need a powerfull PC or will a 4-5 year old laptop be ok for running it?

    cheers

How bad are the roads down there just now? I am suppose to be driving to Gullane from Aberdeen tomorrow night!

Is it worth the journey or should i cancel my plans?

I guess it depends on how far you are going with the bike on the roof, but when i have had this problem i just let a little air out of the tyre and get the clamp good and tight.

I normally have a track pump in the boot of the car so it putting a little air back in the tyre takes seconds.

i’d rather have the bike secure and havvve to take a couple of seconds more before i set off than have the bike come off hte roof.

My suggestion would be use hot water mixed with salt to try and prevent it from freazing over the outside of the pipes and pour it over over any exposed pipes you can see then when everything is warm use the washers to try and force any of the un-diluted screenwash out.

    Good luck

    Rusty.

I’d also have a look at the temperature rating of your new screenwash as concentrat from supermarkets rarely goes below -5.

I am looking at building 2 of these kits what is the best way to organise getting 2 of the 830mA Driver circuits and 2 of the 3 position switches.

These are going to be run from a Li-Ion battery from Smudge which will be 15v 5.2 Ah will that be too much for the drivers?

    Cheers

painted v unpainted more relates to radiators, you can not solder to a painted surface.

You will not be able to solder the heatsink to the case of the light without running the risk of the light deforming ,you would need that much heat. Good artic paste has really good transfer properties, you should be fine with that.

What heatsink are you using in your build. Trout has designed a updated heatsink assembly that can be found in the following tread

    http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/lumicycle-halogen-led-kit-vote

another option is to do as some people have and put a heatsink for a rc car motor size 540 onto the outside of the lamps to help aid cooling see the following thread for what i mean.

    http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/new-xpg-board-and-driver-for-all-you-home-brewers-out-there

If this is secured with a couple of small screws through the case into the bulk of the heatsink and artic paste is applied between the heatsink and case you will be doing pretty much evrything you can to keep it all nice and cool.

Lastly when you are out on your bike the movement of air past the light will be what keeps it coolest when stationary it will get warmer. When you test it i would not get too concerned if it gets quite warm when you come to use it in reality you will keep it cooler.

Hi trout, what is the best way to contact you?

Sent an email using you email in your profile at the beginning of the week about parts for a Lumicycle conversion but have not got a reply. Did you recieve the email? It was sent from my hotmail account which sometimes causes problems.

    cheers

    A for me.

I have used B previously but didn’t like the way the rack moved about on the back of the car. No matter how much i tightened the strapps it would still move about.

Have had no trouble with a thule roof bar mont blank cycle carrier combo. Sure the economy and performance of the car goes down a bit when the bikes are on there but i feel they are more secure than before so it is a price i am willing to pay.

tow bar mounted was going to prove too expensive for me so although it would probably be the way i would go in the future with a different car i ruled it out for my polo.

Prince, yonex, asics and mizuno make decent squash shoes, but in then end it is what fit you best. go try them on and see which feel comfiest. You can go down the route of standard trainers if you still feel the look too special for you, but depending on how you play you could end up going through the toe of a standard trainer pretty quickly.

i am hoping to do a lumi conversion in the near future and am a little concerned about the heat build up.

I’d get it checked out, it could be a host of different things. It probably wouldn’t cost you much more to have it inspected and pay for a puncture repair at a friendly tyre fitters any way.

    Hi Foxyrider, Trout and BCT,

I am new to this thread but would be interested in getting hold of 2 kits if they are being sold as kits, one spot one flood so i guess that is one with XPEs and one with XPGs, I realise there is a holdup with the XPGs and can sympathise with trout’s demands of his real business however even if i can get the stuff in the new year that would be great.

I don’t know the best way to go about contacting Trout or BCT or if i should put my request to Foxyrider if someone can advise that would be good.

    Thanks

Things I would like to see on a decent work stand are

Cam lock style clamp not the screw down style I hate them

Replaceable rubber grips for the jaws of the clamp ideally non-slip, possibly with softer compound option for more fragile frames :- carbon etc.

Like the idea of a light mentioned above.

I moved from swift cover to Hastings direct earlier this year as swift cover wanted over £550 to insure a 53 plate 1.4 polo comprehensive cover 4 years NCB protected. With Hastings it came to a little under £350, they were the cheapest I could find at the time.

One other thing, check your Swift cover policy, when I turned 25 and was insured with them they gave me an additional years NCB.

you can make your own tool from a length of 22mm copper pipe (30 – 50cm should be enough). use a hack saw to cut a cross through it (10 -15cm) and splay the ends.

Edit:- looks like TJ beat me to it

If you are putting a projector in there i’d be makeing sure there was a small sofa or atleast a comfy chair and a beer fridge. possibly half painted (workshop/dirty area) and half floor tiled/carpeted (turbo training/clean comfy area)for warmth.

Was it a cold morning when this happened? had it been a while since the car has been run? you say the car fired up OK, my first thought would be the battery is a little low. If the car had not been run for a while the charge in the battery could have dropped off a bit, possibly just enough to start the car but not kick in the electrics properly. My old polo used to have this problem. Loads of places do free battery test to see if it is on its way out.

I’d also simply have a look at the battery connnections, one could be a little loose and with the vibration of the engin turning over it could have caused an intermittant loss of power for the electrics.

Well that is my guesses any way, simple and free to check out.

They were just reviewed in that other Mountain Biking magazine from the UK. The XC wheelset one month and the more all mountain in the month before. Both were voted best value for there class and from reading the review parts they were very impressed with them.
