I have bled a few avid bakes now, i have juicy carbons and juicy 5’s. There is lots of good videos on youtube of how to do it and it is not very messy as stumpy01 says.

If you do not have a work stand it is easier if you can get someone to give you a hand to steady the bike while you work the saringes, sometimes you need to put a bit of force into them to get all the bubbles out.

When chucking the bike in the back of the car you can get spacers to put between the pads which will stop them pushing together, these spacers can also be made by folding up a cerial box and jamming it in there for free.

Ride it till you break it then replace it. there is a cheap DT EX5.1D rim on ebay just now linky replace like for like and you shouldn’t have the expense of all new spokes.

    Just my thoughts

    Prices from my local are

    Bike build £120

    Wheel build £25/wheel

Some wheel builders i know will charge more if they are not going to make anything off the parts.

I’m in the same boat as ltheisinger I’m looking for an all mountain rim to build onto a pair of hope proII hubs i have.

Do any of you know where is cheapest to buy rims from?

Would love to build them up with ZTR Flow rims but at £120 for the pair that is out of the question, especially since CRC had them at £44/rim a few months back. DT Swiss EX 5.1D rims are equally expensive and increasingly harder to find. Does this simply leve my choice as Mavic EN521’s that ar a little heavier than i was hoping to build up?

    Cheers

Front mech may be the wrong size for new seat tube, it may also be a different pull depending on cable routing and mach type.

Headset i’d go hope to match your BB

Wheel building see here. It will be cheeper to buy hope hoops than kane them yourself just depends on if you want to be able to build wheels or not for the future.

Rear hub Duno, build a pair???

Forks depandant on budget there are haeps out there

I can see your dilema, they may be small enough to get both on the helmet and the battery pack in a bag, see how you go when you get the new light, at that point if they have essentially become redundant the upgrade/modify route may come into play i guess.

I just took some old Lumicycle halogen lights and re-built them with parts from Trout making them tripple LED’s and they are superb, that was the reason for the sugestion.

Smudge at http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/ could be able to help you out with a new charger with a UK plug.

As others have sugested I would be putting the new light on the bars and one of the Niterider MiNewts on your helmet.

Depening on what the case of the MiNewts is made of you may be able to modify them with the help of Trout from the forum to produce a greater light output which would be more suitable with the brighter new light.

No no no it doesn’t work like that for Scotland, you can’t predict we will finnish 3rd, you have all just gone and jinked it for us. We are now destined to finnish last and it is all your fault. I’m off to cry in a corner now. You big bunch of spoil sports.

That’s rubbish mate, get over to ebay and you can save searches of the bikes and some of the parts and then ebay will notify you if naything else comes up matching the description.

I think you can do a similar thing with google but i don’t know how.

good luck, hope your insurance will cover the shed and bikes

My suggestion would be get to a shop and try a few bikes, figure out what size is right for you, and what style seems to suit. Some frames are designed with longer top tubes which can srtetch you out others with slightly shorter so you are a little more upright. It is one of these things that will just feel right when you sit on it.

I think the Kona blast is priced closer to the £600 mark than the £400 so bare that in mind when you get your bike, it may not be quite as good as the kona but you should get something pretty close.

After having a quick look i think the bordman sport hard tail could be hard to beat.

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_561395_langId_-1_categoryId_165499#dtab

The halfords range can be a little hit or miss as you found with the GT but the bordman range is definately hit.

Good luck, come back to us when you narrowed your search down.

mundiesmiester thank you very much for the link to that guide it is really usefull, i had heard it mention on the briskoda forum but couldn’t search for it to find the guide.

martinxyz the wishbones are a different part on these cars. I originally thought as you that it would simply be a case of replacing the wishbones that i could have done in a mates driveway but no such luck.

snaps have you noticed greater cabin noise and a less refined ride since having the cupra bushes fitted?

thanks again for all the replies i thought it was a common problem but wasn’t findin as much about it on the net as i hoped.

Oh as to the catch, i think you have to wait for the bike to be made, i think they go in batches of one frame type so some times it can be a couple of months before they get back to making your bike if they are out of stock of the frame type or size you require. I do think that they were quite open with telling you this when ordering.

A German collegue at work ordered one a year or so back with an outragious spec for the money. Pretty sure his was the nerve xc with 120mm of travel. Build quality looked really good and in the 3 months he was still over here when he had it i think the biggest problem he had was a couple of punctures.

Lovely bike, he new quite alot about them, think his brother had even been to the factory in Germany

Can anyone recommend good places to buy rims? i am looking for an all mountain enduro type rim arround the 500g mark that is less than £50 a rim, seems almost impossible, beginning to wish i had picked up some ztr flow rims when they were £44 from CRC

twaddle TJ, my girlfriend has a lovely 2 tone loud bell one bike that gets used on the same old railway path and is ignored just as much as my shouts!
The number of times she rings and rings that bell and they do nothing or simply step out infront of us would suggest to me they are too caught up in there own conversations they are not prepared for anything else that shares the path with them.

I know how you feel, how difficult is it to understand Rider Passing on the Right. Seems to sound like scatter to anyone walking on the local old railway path.

It also gets old pretty quick getting shouted at you are going too quick you may hit my dog. Wouldn’t be a problem if they had the do on a lead like they are supposed to.

That rosebikes site has some good prices, especially if you buy the spokes in bunches of 20 (£7.90) and the nipples in 40’s(£1.79) wich will give you a few spares if you ever break or damage a spoke.

A while back there was a thread about the uk importer of Rose bikes, any one know how that turned out?

    RustyMac
    Free Member

Recently charged £25 + spokes for a wheel build, think it came to £90+ for the 2 wheels.

Since then i have bought roger munson’s (wheel pro) guide and am building his stand at the moment. Have found the same bike shop will charge £12.50 for a wheel true and tune up and know i can source spokes cheeper than what i paid from them so i’m definatly giving it a go next time.

I recon with the outlay of the
    guide £9 :- http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/wheelbuilding/book.php
    spoke key £6 :- http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=41056
and getting a couple of bits to make a stand and bodge a nipple driver even if the wheels need to go into the shop to be tuned i’ll break even with the first price.

I apologise in advance if this comes across as insensitive as i realise there are plenty of people out there who are out of work just now but can anyone give me advice on progressing my career?

End goal i would like to progress into an Electrical/Electronics Engineers position. For the last 3 years i have been working as an Electronics Technician in the oil industry and have just completed my degree a BSc (ENG) Electronic and Electrical Engineering evening classes. However i seem to be getting no were with job applications and agencies are only contacting me about other technician positions.

What can i do to help my CV stand out against other people who have experience of similar positions?

Would it be worth my while saving up and taking courses in the likes of solid works or AutoCAD?

Should i set my target lower and try and work into an engineering roll in say 3-5 years? If so what kind of positions should i be looking at to help build my skills base for an engineering position?

I am getting concerned that not progressing in the near future will show a lack of ambition or talent.

    Hi Bill,

I’ve been in Aberdeen for 8 years or so now, 4-5 at uni then 2 year break then 3-4 more since getting a job in the good old oil industy. It was a great city as a student as everything in the city centre is in walking distance and lots of pubs but i am enjoying it more now as i have a car and can get out and about more. Biking is good, no major trail centres near by but lots of Foresty commisson sites with good riding. Below is a link to a local riding club

    http://www.ecurieneep.co.uk/

If you want to know more about the city drop me am email and i will try and help out where i can.

If you are still having trouble, get an old length of break or gear cable inner, loop through the powerlink then cross it. Pull on the ends and it will pull the edges of the link together for you.

If it is really stiff spray with wd40, gt85 or the like and put on a pair of gardening gloves. This trick works on even the rustiest of chains.

1 – Ride to the top of the hill at the local trails without stopping, then find a bigger hill.
    2 – Manual for 10 seconds +
    3 – Land a set of doubles
    4 – Rail a berm, really rail a berm

My workmate has a old Toyota Hilux N Reg and he frequently mixes 50/50 oil desil. His is the non turbo model. He has never put used oil in and just looks out for offers of buy one get one free and in the likes of Costco etc for value sunflower/veg oil.

He pours the oil in before the desil so the pressure of pumping the desil in mixes it all in the tank. He has had no problems doing it this way, i think in winter he reduces the quantity of oil so the fuel doesn’t freeze but has had no trouble at mot’s for over 4 years now with mixed fuel.

    Hi truebloodmtb,

I have a samsung N110 that i bought in the states 2 years ago and it is great. 9.5hrs battery life, 140Gb hard disk and it is reasonably quick for typing the odd document and surfing the net. My one also has bluetooth which has been handy for quickly getting pictures from my phone to my computer. One of the other really usefull things for me has been the built in mic and which mean it is great for catching up with home through skype from where ever you are.

My girlfriend has an asus eeepc, it was slightly cheeper than my samsung and has a slightly shortr battery life at8.5 hrs but i have also been really impressed with it. speed and hard drive capacity are on a par with the samsung.

Good luck in finding the right one for you. I think they are great for what they are and use mine more than i ever thought i would.

Some decent flat pedals. DMR V12 or V8 are popular. Superstar components do some nice ones for sensible money. here is a link

Has the rear outer been forced back too far?
Do you have any kind of pad adjust on the lever that could have been left pushing the pads out?
You should be able to sort it by bleeding the brakes if you have a bleed kit if none of the above help.
