What about something like THIS glued to the back of the door? It cones in different thicknesses which could be good if you have a mechanism you need to avoid.

The other thing that comes to my mind is the foil bubble wrap stuff.

@continuity

What kind of temperatures do disk brake calipers reach during use?

Just wondering as i have a small ammount of fairly high temp rated silicone grease and wonder if that will be ok to use instead of buying another tub of lubricant to be stored in the shed.

I would think that at worst you would be able to sell the shock and linkage plates, possibly chuck in the rear triangel in the sale of the linkage plates.

Then just take the front triangle to the skip or hang it up in the shead a a momento to your wikid gnar skilz bruv 😉 or use it as a massive wind chime with some old sprokets hung off it to clater about 🙂

Lumicycle have some of there tripple LED lights in the clearance department at the moment.

http://www.lumicycle.com/product/210/clearance_led_unit/led-lamp-unit.html

one of thoes combined with a 7.4V 5.2Ah battery and charger from smudge at mtbbatteries would make a really nice light set for a pretty reasonable price.

I have Lumicycle halogens I converted to LED last year with help from trout and they are briliant, Lumicycle are a friendly and really helpfull company too.

I don’t know what you class as not much but smudge from this forum has mtbbatteries and he is selling an XM-L light (the newest type of LED) for £67

http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/4.html

They have been quite popular and he has sold out of his first batch but the second batch is due in very soon, this light paired with a head torch should see you well for offroading and could be used on the lower setting for commuting to extend the battery life.

My sister took part in that yesterday on my mums old bike that i tarted up for her to use as a commuter 4 years ago. She has never done alot of cycling but managed the 47 miles fine on a 15 year old bike.

No reports of mechanicals from her so i presume the more speedy competators were the unfortunate ones to pick up the drawing pins.

i would put money on me being requested to help her find a better commuting bike later on this week when she has fully recoverd.

Nope it does not fit. The bearings in the hub body are a different OD, i really don’t know about the freehub compatability either.

Try UKbikestore for a new axle (i got one for a bulb hub axle from them earlier in the year) if it is that or have a look on ebay for bearings

After an interesting first night ride where the power lead kept falling out of one of my lights. I have come up with this cheap simple fix using thin strips of double sided velcro.

Lights bodge by RussellMacnamara, on Flickr

I can now suspend the lights by the cords without the connectors coming out so it should work for keeping them in place on the bike. With it being velcro it is easy to un do when i need to charge the battery 😀

Phil/mrsconsequence you can either send £10 as paypal to my email address in my profile or email me and i can give you bank details if you prefer. Please send me an email with your address so i know where to send it.

It looks from the spec of the bike on Halfords web site as though this headset should be the one for mrsconsequences bike however if PP has a look at it and it is wrong you can send it back and i’ll refund the money.

Got to go out to the shops so will be away from the computer for the next hour or so but will make a point of checking my mail when i get back.

Cheers

For removal you just undo the 8mm bolt, leve the 10mm cap in place. By undoing the 8mm bolt against the cap the crank arm is pulled off.
Once the arm is removed take the 10mm cap off to allow easier re-assembly – this is reverse threaded.

Hope this helps

Maplin may just be the best bet, just called Lumicycle and spoke to a really nice guy who gave me some other things to try first as they don’t have the bits in stock just now.

Thought it may be a bit cheeky calling Lumicycle as i have gone off and done my own thing with the lights?

Headset has now been located and has pride of place on the mantlepiece in my living room.

Everything is there except the star fangled nut, this should not be a problem for you as there will already be one fitted in mrsconsequence steerer of her current forks.

The cups are new as i never fitted them, the bearings and the upper crown race look new but have been used for 2-3 rides, the lower crown race has previously been fitted and has a 1mm nick out of it where the screw driver just slipped when i took it off my old forks – sorry. The nick will not affect performance in any way.

If mrsconsequence is interested i could get it in the post for you this weekend. If you want any pics drop me an email and i can reply with some.

If you don’t get spacers with the fork they are cheap as chips to buy, they are quite often sold through the classifieds as well.

the revelations i bought from merlin earlier in the year came supplied with some of the travel adjust spacers in the bag with the fork instructions.

they were like these but the 2011 model i bought

I think Lethal-D was hinting at, you would either need to change the chain rings (if you were running a triple ring up front) or have a second set of cranks with the single ring, cranks are almost as easy to change if you have an external bottom bracket.

Single speed chain rings may be chunkier than 9 speed to aid in longevity of parts. Does your bike have horizontal drop outs or are you planning on running some kind of chain tensioner?

[edit]most of which seems to have been covered already while i was typing my reply – must learn to type faster and ignore my boss whe he starts asking stupid questions[/edit]

Phil are you any good at basic bike maintenance?

Headset does seem to be an integrated one If you are interested I am fairly confident I have a FSA one in my shed somewhere with sealed bearings, I only used it for 2 rides before getting new forks and having to get a new headset.

Like this one

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15888

but with silver cups, think it was about that price when I bought it so if I can find it I’d sell it for a tenner posted.

Hubs seem to be generic Formula ones, could you not open them up for her and shove a bunch of grease in them to see her through winter then treat her to some new wheels for chrismas?

I have the 2011 vertion of the RLT like in the link below, to reduce the travel it is just a case of adding spacers internally, i even got some supplied with the fork.

http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Frame++Forks/Forks++Shocks/Rockshox+Suspension+Forks/2012+Rockshox+Revelation+RLT+15mm+Axle_RS-REVELATION-RLT-15.htm

If you dont need the fork to be QR i’d recommend spending the extra £30 on the RLT they are ace.

I’d think it would be fixable.

A cheaper option to buying a new wheel would be buy a replacement rim the en321 rims are normally about £25 then build it on to the old spokes and hub and get a shop to finnish it off if you do not have the tools for a further £15-20

I am no expert and would strongly advide dropping smudge an email. However i think simply wiring up the batteries will cause you problems, as FunkyDunc suggests getting a battery holder will be a simple solution and avoid any fireworks. You would need to charge the batteries individually.

RustyMac
Free Member

I thought about this last year and read some stuff about it, the tags are kind of welded on to the battery IIRC and it is best not to mess about stripping and re building the 18650 batteries which you would have to do as they have individual protection circuits that will have to be removed for the overall cicuit to work.

If your battery is not totally FUBAR then drop smudge from mtbbatteries an email and he may be able to help you by replacing the dodgy cells.

Alternativly do waht i did and just buy a battery from him. My battery was well beyond repair – cells had leaked and other horrible stuff.

I have an Onkyo CR515 it is about 5 years old now, i had to get an external dock for it for my iPod but the sound is briliant for what it is. My mum bought one shortly after i got mine and she really likes it and recently my girlfriend decided she wanted a stereo for her flat so i picked up one for her cheap second hand from ebay. All three are still going strong and have had no problems.

I think the CR545 is the updated vesion of mine and it now comes with an intigraded iPod dock. i don’t know if the speaker quality has suffered over the years but the standard onkyo ones that came with my mum’s and girlfriends CR515’s are pretty damn good, i have a pair of tannoy mercuray F1 custom spakaers on my hi-fi and it does sound a bit better but not massively in my oppinion.

If they are anything like the coffin dodgers that live by me then there is a few simple things you can do to hack them off. In the past i have

Parked in their space (when i say their space it is any ones but their car is in it 95 % of the time) and deliberately left my car there for a week, I even wen’t out my way to do the weekly shopping on my bike. I found that going down to it and starting it almost as if i was going to leve adgitated them even further when i didn’t go anywhere.

Let them hang out a large load of washing then go outside and cut the grass, strimming is particularly effective as it throws up more stuff meaning they need to do the entire wash agian.

For a while i had adjusted my door so that you haad to slam it to close it, even showed them it was the door not me to get an extra week out of slamming the door on my way out to work at 7 in the morning. Also i found combining that with putting the washing on just before i left and on a long spin cycle made it harder for them to get back to sleep.

These may be a little tame for what you are looking for but atleast are all legal.

Ding a little digging and research in ye olde reliable source of wikipedia it looks like the brand was bought by Pacific Cycles in 2009. It looks like they did the same thing for Schwinn and GT back in 2001.

Must agree it is a pretty sorry site, and it doesn’t look encoraging for there to be any of the old tech documents available through them.

GT have made a bit of a comeback of late so you never know in 10 years time Iron Horse may be the company it once was.

trout,

I realise it is being particularly picky but one of the things i really liked about your prototype was the bar mount! Although you can’t really see it in rocketdogs pic it has your logo on it which is a neat touch and really set the lights apart as one of yours.

I could see reasoning behind it if it was sold as a diy kit :-
* possibility of the light being built not being to your standards
* depending on construction it could make the housing hellish expensive

however if you go down the route of selling complete builds i think it would be a great shame to loose that bit of brand identity.

Also in my mind it just looks a more secure solution for fixing the light to the bar.

If you decide to go down the route of hope hoops on flow rims si from progressive bikes is selling them at a keen price right now £275

flows consintly get good reviews so i shouldn’t think you would have any problems with them.

I found my 5.1’s a complete mare before being told about the correct technique 😳

However i still can’t get my michilin tyres on or off without some dh levers and because of this they are now hanging in my shed. Maxxis are a bit easier and i havn’t broken any tyre levers fitting or removing them and feel much more confident i could actually fix a puncture out on the trail now where before with the michilins i spent half an hour by the trail removing the tube and fitting a new one for the tyre lever to nick the new tube and put a hole in that too.

Enjoy the new bike, I’ve got an Iron Hose Mk3 and really like the DW Link suspension and reckon when it dies a 5 Spot will be it’s replacement.

What colour did you get?
