Yes and no, you will get 2 jocky wheels just like the picture on the dotbike site with a ring of sealed bearings, you then get glass fiber bushes you slide inside to fit the type of fitting you need. there are then 2 covers that you can part fill with oil, they push together and fit in place of the regular sram jockey wheels.

So far they seem to be working well on my bike, can’t vouch for longevity yet but they are lasting fine through the crappy weather i have been biking in.

The BBB sram compatable ones will fit BDP-05, they are provided with a heap of different inserts. When you get them you will have a puzzle to figure out which ones you need but I just matched like for like with my knackered ones.

The jocky wheels were not compatable between the x7 and x9 mechs that i have. i looked at that as a quick fix before getting new jocky wheels. As djflexure says there is not a great deal of difference between the mechs, i wouldn’t say the X7 is better thatn the X9 but it is not far off.

When the Jocky wheels failed in my X9 mech at the begining of autumn i ordered some BBB ones from dot bike (link below) They came really quickly, if you order them now you may find you can have shiny new ones for riding on thursday.

I can sympathise with jools182 and totally understand where jumpupanddown is coming from.

At the end of the day it is as bigyinn says banks are no longer there to be your friend (if they ever were), you owe them money and they want it back as quickly as possible. Try and think of it from the other side if you were owed the money and you found out that the person who owed you it was not doing everything possible to pay you back.

I admire your want to try and put some money aside for emergencies, however the banks will not see this as the sensible approach as it is simply money they could be taking off you to re-pay your debt.

There is a lot of good advice in this tread already on how to live frugally for the next while till you get your debt paid off. Try and not let yourself get too worried about how you will afford to pay for something if it breaks as second hand stuff will often get you through this tough spell till you are back on your feet. Used car tyres will still be legal, free cycle can be a great resource for some top quality kit that people no longer want. Basic car maintenance can be done by yourself even if you are not that technical most of the time it is just stopping and thinking about how to do it.

Try and keep your chin up jools182 some times it will feel like you are never going to get the monkey off your back, especially at this time of year but try and stay focused on getting rid of the debt so you can then get back to a normal life.

    Great thread project, well put.

To all those on the front line that will inevitably end up taking crap of drunken idiots i hope they are few and far between this season. To those behind the scenes thank you for doing what you do looking out for the rest of.

I wouldn’t say anything, there could be alot of reasons why staff that joined in the last year dont qualify – bonus use to encorage staff to stay longer with the company, last year was particularly tough and no one got a bonus this is to make it up to thoes that stuck it out, payroll can do basic maths of adding up hours and multiplying by figure x but fractions of a bounus are beyond them.

Suck it up and hope one of your work mates feels sorry for you and buys you a pint.

Cracking pics of Sunny G and NB there coastkid, one weeks time and i’ll be back there. Have walked the route you biked heaps of times, how did you get on with the bit after Freshwater Haven? I always end up heading up to the new golf course and along the top of the dunes.

I’m of a some what sturdy build. I don’t use elbow protection but on my knees i use 661 Kyle Straits, don’t know if they will be the type of thing you’ll be looking for but they work well for me.

I find the technical rough stuff easier on my full sus bike, whether it be climbing or decending having the suspension there helps when i make a wrong desision or put my body weight in the wrong place and end up heading for the rock rather than round it.
I am lucky enough to have both a full sus and a hard tail so when i feel confident over sections on the full sus i have a go at them on the hard tail as i know i need to be smoother.
As others have mentioned i do find simply getting out there more helps me get better more than what bike i ride, however i would probably chicken out of more stuff if i was on the hard tail rather than the full sus for trying stuff for the first time.

Your second pic is of a 9mm Front hub and skewer, where as pictures 1 and 3 are of 10mm rear skewers.

If you are planning on getting new or new to you wheels you may want to concider something that is also going to be able to be converted into the other 2 main front and rear standards as well, these being

    Front Hub Standards
    Standard QR -5mm
    9mm QR
    15mm QR
    20mm QR

    Rear Hub Standards
    Standard QR – 5mm
    10mm QR
    12mm QR

There are a number of hubs on the market that would allow these, the most common ones are Hope Pro 2 hubs. By getting wheels that can be adapted easily to all the curent standards should allow you easier upgrading of other paerts in the future.

Well if the cone is good and the bearings are good and the axle is new then the only remaining part that could be damaged is the bearing race in the hub shell, at the end of the day it amounts to the same thing – bearings having extra space to move lateraly allowing the cone to move away from the locknut and the hub becomes loose.

    RustyMac

that is not a place i’d be wanting to use loctite. Sounds like you are possibly not tightning the cone into position enough allowing everything else to come loose or possibly not tightening the lock nut enough, as hendo says cone spanners are a must to do the job properly.

my bike cleaning consists of a quick hose down after muddy rides, a spray of WD40 on the chain then shove it in the shead, Before the next ride i oil the chain and off i go. I have found cleaning it when the mud is still wet takes less then 5 minutes where as once the stuff has baked on it thakes ages.

Take measurements and make one out of MDF, i got a tilting base with the second hand stand i bought and couldn’t belive what they were charging for them.

I’ve seen a few shops with them on MDF bases, one of them had littel clip lock containers screwed or glued onto the MDF for the little bits so nothing gets lost when the stand gets moved about. I though that was a better idea then the little cup container things on the Park base which are fine for when you are building a wheel but no good for storage of extras.

I have a 1.4FSI polo and have had a shot in a 1.4 TFSI A3, have wanted to shove a turbo on my car since. I know it is not practical to do so but the extra power in the A3 was so nice over my normal 1.4FSI.

Don’t know anything about the TFSI engine but in general my FSI has been good, oil is expensive for it if you go for the long life stuff, coil packs go as they do in every other car and can be pricy but my engine has a timing chain so no belt to change which made up for the 2 coil packs going at 50K miles.

What would you be sacrificing? will you have tools to service them?

IMO If the bearings are good when you start and you can re-pack them with grease regualrly as you go to keep the worst of the cack out you would probably be ok.

What he said^^(andydicko )^^ It is a little annoying that as a conciquence of the mains water getting colder my shower take more to heat up the water to hot so also drops the power of the shower down too. This doesn’t seem to be an issue on my girlfriends more expensive mira shower but could be the problem you are having.

Otherwise it is time to RTFM and see if there re is any way to re-set the temperature on the shower IIRC this was one of the options the plumber asked us about when installing the new shower at my girlfriends flat.

My gitlfriend had been using THESE for the last 18 months with no problems, they have been used on some pretty damn wet commutes too. So far i have only needed one change of batteries on the rear so battery life seems good too.

Massively exciting for Edinburgh this year, 2 big wins to start and from what i have heard the last mach could end up being match of the tournament. Hope they can hold it together in Cardiff as it will give them an exclent base to progress out of the group stages this year.

If you do a search on the main site for gravity enduro you should find some videos of last years events. People were competing on all sorts so either the 5 AM or the Alpine will work well for the events.

Have a think about what else you want the bike for? Presuming you are not super flash with the cash and are not simply buying a 4k+ bike for 6-8 events what other biking do you want the bike for. My personal thoughts are the 5 AM would easily handle the vast majority of UK riding and be decent in the Alps. If it is more of a bigger travel alps technical/dh trails bike you are looking to get then go for the Alpine.

For that budget i’d also be looking at the Voodoo bikes from Halfords, they are more at the 140mm travel end of your spec but the Wanga looks promicing or for that price you could also look at the full sus bikes too.
