    There is more info here

    http://www.i-lifeboat.org.uk/news/in-the-news/60-go-orange-day-for-independent-lifeboat-crews

But I still don’t know how to donate!

I work for a company that is world renowned in shipping, that I know do a lot for the RNLI but don’t feel comfortable in taking that little info onwards to see if something could be done at a corporate level for the independent crews.

O2 definately allow you to drop your contract down after 12 months. You can go onto the O2 website and see your useage to figure out the best plan to move onto or call them up and ask them what they would recommend on an average of your last 3 or 6 months of useage.

If you are a size medium buying the mondraker from cycle-world may save you some money

Check the pressures in the shock and see if they tally with what they should be.

Let all air out of the shock and set it up again from scratch, if it has burped air this should sort it, possibly only temporarily though.

If it is still not right you have possibly damaged a seal and the shock will require a service and possibly sent off to one of the pros – Mojo, TFtuned, Loco, J-Tech for repair.

My guess will be someone has tried to extend the loop and dropped the cable down the wrong side of a wooden upright.

Do you have a friendly plumber that could install the boiler for you?

One of the guys at my work got his brother a qualified plumber to install his boiler, boiler was bought from

    http://www.mrcentralheating.co.uk/

Wireless controll units are not that expensive. I have a Salus model like the one in the link below, It is easy to program and shouildn’t const any more thatn the unit to get it installed at the same time as a boiler.

Yup refund cost of jacket, not additional postage. Next time take a pic of the label with the size and if it doesn’t fit them then that is just tough. I presume these are not being sold from a shop and are second hand goods? They don’t come with the same kind of guarantee as new.

I can’t seem to get google maps to remember the routes i put into it but there is basically 2 ways i’d recommend going.

1 From Westhill take the country roads accros to the A96 round-a-bout at Blackburn then take the A96 into Dyce – Probably cutting up left at the Marshal Trailers junction (the one just past the speed camera on the way to the airport round-a-bout)

2 Head out of Westhill the other way A944 to Kingswells then left over towards dyce at Kingswells round-a-bout. At the T Junction you come to after Kingswells take a left then at the top of the hill take your first right and this will bring you out onto the A96 on the Aberdeen side of the Airport round-a-bout into the slow moving trafic heading to the industrial estate.

Rather than the first right you could continue over the hill and cut through the SAC at Craibston but they can get a little shirty about through trafic.

Once you know what bits you need get on ebay, I got Thule aero bars for £36 then a foot pack for my car for £20 and managed to get 3x montblanc bracuda racks for £70. The only bit i bought new was the specific rubber adapters for my car for £15-20. £140 for the roof rack with 3 bike racks seemed like a decent price to me.

In my oppininon if there are no parts that you are partcularly attached to from a previous bike then use it as is for a bit. When you figure out what bits you don’t like so much about the bike then change them.

Oh great GW is back with his helpful and insightful comments yippee.

Biketown is rose bikes flag ship store, it looks from the stock level (green dots bit) they have them but as you suspect possibly in a warehouse so shipping may take a little longer.

I’m sure there is a link to contact them on the web site and you can select a staff member relating to the type of question.

If I get the site to load I’ll post up a link

Hope pro 2’s come in 28 hole front and 135mm rear, not 150mm rear but i wouldn’t think you would want a 150mm 28 hole hub any way.

It doesn’t really mean choosing between eating and heating although it is a nice tag line to uses. It just means the same as it does to everyone else. You cut out the luxuries in your lifestyle till you can afford them again.

Seems like a perfect time to teach the kids the value of money and get them out doing paper rounds or working in a restaurent to pay for there phones.

4 beers a night and then a night out to the pub a week, i wish i could do that and still function at work!

Running plasterboard accross the whole wall is a possibility but the chimney breast does not stick out like wartons, i’d need to completely re-do a door frame that is currently located about a meter or two to the right of the fire. The plaster would probably end up being 3 sheets thick to make up the difference which could make that option quite expensive.

The other option i have bouncing round my head is to get a new mantle built to box in the ugly bit in and frame the fire. It might look something like this, sorry for the squint picture.

If I can get the lintol sorted that is almost exactly what I’d want. Only difference being I’d like a granite harth stone. I want to go for a similar style stove.

matthewjb – looks like your fireplace is exactly the same size as mine, plan is down the line for a smaller 4kW fire to give maximum air space for circulation.

It would be a fair trek in from Arbroath, if he knows of anyone closer who he could recommend I would appreciate there details. My email address is in my profile.

I’m sure you’ll find something suitable, hope it is not too long a wait.

How is the house hunting going?

Humn, maybe i miss understood but 3.19 of the scottish building regs suggests that 150mm is a suitable distance from flamable material for a wood burner that will be part housed within the chimney brest but i will go back and re read it as it wouldn’t be too much trouble to rip out the lathes entirely and re-plaster the stud work with fireline plaster.

@ trail_rat I’m in the city centre. Not far off Holburn St

    RustyMac
    Free Member

The lighter bit on the mantle is where there was some over flow of plaster that has been roghly chipped off.

The lathe and plaster isn’t too much of a concern. I’ll be able to tidy the edges of the lathes back to the edge of the brick work and plaster board over the top.

As far as i am aware as long as there is no flamable material within 150mm of the edge of the wood burner i will be fine. Not planning on installing a wood burner yet, but trying to plan ahead for when i do get one installed.

    Update with pics

This is the chimney as you look at it, the lintel extends well into the brick work on the left.

This will give a better idea how far beyond the plaster the lintle is sticking out.

Mounting tyres to them is the problem, and i’ve tried a number of tyres from different brands over the years. DT seem to build the rims to a different overall outer diamiter to mavic and other manufacurers which makes putting tyres on a real squeeze.
Since owning the DT rims i have had to invest in a massive down hill tyre lever to get some of the tyres off and on a couple of occasions I have had to walk back to the car as i’ve not been able to get the tyres off trail side to fix punctures.

Maybe i have weak thumbs but i have found them a PITA and wouldn’t buy them through choice again.

    Hi,

I don’t know much about that specific DT rim however as an owner of EX5.1D rims i wouldn’t be choosing DT rims again in a hurry. To give them there due they have held up well over the years but the paina nd torment of mounting and removing tyres has taken it’s toll.

Depending on your budget The Stans NoTubes Arch rim would fit the bill, these can be found for £65-70 a rim or the new Arch EX which will be a littel more as they are new for 2012. More info on these rims can be found on the link below.

    http://www.notubes.com/ZTR-Rims-C18.aspx

If your budget is less have a look at the mavic rims, they are very good for the money.

Have a look at space pens. I think that is what they are called, I had one a good few years back when they were all the rage at high school. They were pretty small and compact and may fit in a similar way to the half pencil. The lid was quite long which made the pen more comfortable when writing with it.

One of the guys I know has used this stuff:-

    http://www.plasti-kote.co.uk/Product/pcode—4311/

Available at B&Q for about £7 a tin. he has done 2 pairs of forks now and one frame, all seem to be holding up well to use and abuse so i am going to do the same to some fork lowers later on this year.

It may be worth a check with your local councils regs regarding drive ways. I don’t know if they will affect you if as you already have a drive way however, I know up here in Aberdeen for a new driveway you can not have any loose material within 2m of public land (a path or a road).
