Out of the bikes you have mentioned my personal choice would be out of the top 3 and i’d also chuck a 5 Spot into the mix (mainly as i have a Iron Horse Mk3 just now and like the DW link).
I have had a shot on a remedy and it was a lovely bike to ride thouigh the shock was a bit of a fiddle to set up initally.
Love the look of the butcher and the covert so would want to try them before discounting them. reliability and build quality would rule the Commencal and the Intense out for me.
RustyMacFree Member2 in the same area seems a heck of a coincidence. I am presuming this is the same incodent.
This tread was started a little earlier so may have some additional info for folk

RustyMacFree MemberHope he has a team lined up, I’m suprised he doesn’t have one already with last years results.
RustyMacFree MemberLove the colour and the look but my oh my that head angle looks mega steep.
RustyMacFree MemberAny one know who Ruaridh Cunningham is riding for this year? I thought he was riding with the Maxxis Rocky Mountain team but it would appear that has been dis-banded for this year.
RustyMacFree MemberAny one know who Ruaridh Cunningham is riding for this year? Thought he was on the Maxxis Rocky Mountain team but i see that is now no more.
RustyMacFree MemberAre you having fun just now? Do you want to get more involved?
If you are having fun then go with it, if not then call it quits. Nine months may be enough time for some guys, nine years may not be enough time for some guys, depends on the guy and the circumstances.
RustyMacFree MemberThe orange frame is Alu but the alignment (banging it with a big hammer and teasing it with a pry bar) is done pre heat treatment after which the alu becomes more britle.
A degree of frame alignment should be possible but if it is way out then be aware you could damage the frame beyond repair.
RustyMacFree Memberbruneep –
Aberdeen – don’t know but its a long way from anywhere
It’s close to me.Aye but from what i have heard that is as good a reason as any to avoid the place 😉
you set em up and all that 😆
RustyMacFree MemberYeah, clean up the piston as before and pop it all back togeter and bleed the brake. There will be alot of air in there compared to normal so it may be a bit of a pig to bleed
RustyMacFree MemberPretty common with rear disks as in general not alot of force goes through them and they are jammed on for long periods when the car is stationary. With rear disks it is pretty similar to bike disks with sticky pistons. The only complication is that some car rear pistons require a wind back tool to push the piston back in.
If you are car savvy then jack the car up, pop the wheel off and the pads out of the brake. Pump the prake to push the piston out a little and then smear some dot fluid on it and foce back in. Repete this a couple of times to get any build up of crap out and it should sort it out. Two things to look out for 1- a seal may have been blown between the piston and caliper (you would see this trapped between the two bits) 2 – once you have cleaned the piston and put every thing back together remember to pump the breaks before you head off.
RustyMacFree MemberEvery city has it’s dodgy areas, depending on what transport you are going to have will make some citys more or less appealing mtb wise. I live in Aberdeen flat rental up here is pretty pricy in the city due to the oil renting a room will be the cheapest way, transport in and arround the city is ok by bus my girlfriend uses them all the time for getting about however if you want to do some riding a car will help as the trails are out of the city
I grew up east of edinburgh and flat rental in the capital isn’t going to be cheap either. There is also decent bus transport in and around edinburgh. But riding wise you have the pentland hills on your door step and there is a company that has started to do mini bus trips to glentress so the options of rining are far better there.
RustyMacFree MemberThe Marz 55 RC3 Ti forks are getting great reviews at the moment by various people on the forum so the 44’s as Rickos suggests could be a good shout.
Before ditching the Sektors drop Si at Loco Tuning an email, he has done various upgrades for folk on Sektors and Revs so may be able to advise on a route to improve your current forks.
RustyMacFree MemberThis is quite a common problem on Avid brakes, there are a few chains of though on the best way to sort the sticky piston.
1 – remove pads from brake, use a large flat bladed screw driver to press on good piston and carefully pump the brake lever to push the sticky piston out about 75% DO NOT PUMP THE BRAKE SO MUCH THAT THE PISTON POPS OUT OF THE CALIPER. apply some Dot 5.1 fluid to the piston using a cotton bud to remove and dirt build up and push piston back into caliper. Repete this a few times to remove as much crap from the caliper as possible and re lubricate it and it should stop it sticking
2 – same process as 1 but using red rubber grease, small tubs are available on ebay for a few pounds. red rubber grease is used in the motor industy for lubricating pistons and seals so should be good for buike ones too.
RustyMacFree MemberThis Bell helmet has the twisty knob helmet adjustment i was talking about, if you look at the 360 view you can see it
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=69629
Bell call it ergodial
“Ergodial: The ErgoDial Fit System brings one-handed adjustments to our Universal Fit helmets. A simple press of the button and slide of the dial brings firm, snug and comfy stability”
RustyMacFree MemberI can’t think of any helmet buckle that wouldn’t cause problems however i would think if he took it to a taylors they would be able to cut out the clip and sew in a double D fastening for a few quid.
Other thing to concider may be a helmet with a rock lock style twisty knob at the back to secure it on the head that way so the the buckle is less important.

May have to include mains wired fire alarms as well?Just something that was mentioned to me when i was talking to trades about my flat and getting a loft conversion. Thinking back this may have been as i mentioned i may end up renting the place out.
RustyMacFree MemberThe mech is probably fine, i’d be having a look at the mech hanger. From your description it sounds like the bike is your commuter so some other friendlt commuter may have bashed your rear mech by accident when you had your bike locked up if you can not think of any reason it would be out of alignment from your use.
RustyMacFree MemberI’m with fenboy and creamegg on this one, you may also have to install mains powerd interlinked (if one goes off they all go off) smoke detectors.
RustyMacFree MemberSector is more of a combination of the recon and pike forks, kind of a solo air version of the Rev.
For your money you could get a top of the line Revelation fork from Merlin, only difference would be the 15mm axle rather than 20mm. You can reduce the travel to 140mm with the addition of all travel spaces internally.
You couls also try contacting Si at Loco Tuning and see what he could offer you, i would think he would be able to shorten the travel on the fork to suit prior to him sending them out too.
RustyMacFree MemberDifferent importer being German and i guess they have struck up an outstanding deal with them.
RustyMacFree MemberYour just showing off now 😉
That looks like a fantastig garage you have stuffed some wood in there. Could you not move the tractor into there and the wood into the massive woodstore you built?
RustyMacFree MemberDepends on the driver and LED’s as to wethrt you would damage the light.
7.5V pack[/url] from smudge at http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk should see you right.
RustyMacFree MemberI take it the 2.6 version is not a wankel set up or it’d be a 4 litre !
I think they changed the description to relate better to the roadtax pricing.
RustyMacFree MemberOne of my friends had the R3 model, it drank oil and ate tyres. He would happily go through a set of tyres in 6-9 months and a litre of oil a month. He said it was totally un-driveable in the snow or ice, however on dry roads he said it was a great car to be in. Insurance and road tax were pretty steep too.
RustyMacFree MemberIn know it is not exactly tune association but this song came up in a tread earlier in the week and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it since so here you go.
Sorry for not abiding by the rules.
RustyMacFree MemberThey’ve got them discounted at stif here
looks like discontinued 😥
paulscycles had a 2010 giant arete at a decent price, well within budget but it is an alu frame

RustyMacFree MemberThat looks
FASTquick that does 😉
I have always loved the look of raw carbon fiber bikes but couldn’t trust my self to own one as i’m a clumsy oaf.RustyMacFree Member[thread hijack]
totalshell
If someone had taken all the fun out of it for you and opened up the chimney, installed a hearth and plastered the chimney breast with fireline plaster board what kind of price would they be looking at for installation of a 6-8m flue liner and stove?
email is in my profile if you don’t want to post up prices

RustyMacFree MemberI have Lumicycle Halogen lamps that with some help from trout and blackcattech i have converted to LED. I have been in contact with Lumicycle a few times for small parts and the guys on the phone have been briliant, for £150 the Lumi LED light is a great deal. With the warantee support from Lumicycle that is where i would put my money if i needed a new light.
Something else to concider although a few pounds more expensive would be the mytinysun lights – a German company manufactuting them available in the uk through this site:-
http://www.magicshineuk.co.uk/products/MyTinySun-Sport-900X-900-lumens-made-in-Germany-2-years-warrantyYou may be able to source one from a German company or a little less, it is a similar size to the Lumi lamp and build quality looks as good too. The only critisism i would have of the mytinysun lamp is that the way the lumi lamp is designed you get some side vision of the light which would be good for on the road where as you don’t get that with the mytinysun.
Smudge at mtbbatteries had a new light coming that looks nice in the pic on his site but as of yet there hasn’t been any info on spec or price but if his £67 light is anything to go by it could be a contender for you too.
RustyMacFree MemberGW’s skills thing is a pop at GW who has a massive chip on his shoulder about skills courses saying they are pointless and that he is a riding god without ever needing or wanting to go on one. On a number of these treads in the past he has poped up to chuck his weight about and generally piss people off.
The virtual bit is he is awesome mega rad sic in this virtual world.
He rides at glentress quite a bit from other posts so some people have put 2+2 togetherRustyMacFree MemberDon’t know if you or your mate is aware of this but there is an app you can download for both android and apple phones to use your phone as a view finder for the contour camera.
http://contour.com/software/mobile
it works through bluetooth.
The internals of the two cameras are the same i believe (chipsets etc)where they differ is the hardware and useability.
