If you’re used to disks or Vs then cantis will always feel a bit weak – try riding a road bike with side pulls for a while, after which cantis will feel amazingly powerful :D

I use CR720s with Ultegra levers and can lock the rear wheel

    3 things to try :
If you’re using standard pads, change them to something like koolstop salmons.
Check the pads are correctly aligned so that the whole of the pad surface is hitting the rim (in both planes), and slightly toed-in.
Experiment with the length of the straddle wire – I have mine so that the cantis are just about horizontal when the levers are off (i.e. straight line from centre of pad to centre of straddle wire clamp)

If you’re looking for someone to donate some wildfowl, don’t try Mark Green Disco, apparently he doesn’t give a duck.

Never found anything worth riding there, and never seen anyone on a bike or even any tyre tracks.
The Brunant Arms is a nice pub, but that’s about it.

Just watching the reports on CNN, Bloomberg, etc. Lots of OB units standing around in NY doing to camera pieces in full foul weather gear with absolutley nothing happening. The Bloomberg piece being slightly spoilt by the backdrop of flat calm water with a guy going past on a jet ski. Might snow a bit in Virginia apparently.

    excellent refund service

Ah, that’s good to know. Sizing is always a problem with bike clothing. I bought some Mavic gloves from CRC; starting of with small, since I have the hands of a teenage girl (don’t tell the cops), and gradually worked my way up to large, which finally fitted. God knows what someone with large hands would have done.

Good find CG. Some genuine bargains there, well hidden under a pile of rubbish only available in sizes XS and XXL. Quite tempted by the SealSkinz Leather Road Cycle Gloves, which look gorgeous.

Got Mrs Rusty’s Xmas present sorted as well –

Just been talking to some colleagues in South Carolina who were all very amused.
“Them yankees worried their money’s gonna get wet” was about the only comment clean enough to repeat.

I actually have a vet in the house as we speak. She says take it to a vet who can prod and poke the lump in question and give a diagnosis. (And adds “it’s probably a cyst of some sort”)

The Road Not Taken – Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Ours is a Pinocchio connected to his origins, happy, athletic and attentive.
He is looking at the horizon, expressing an optimistic attitude versus the future. The expression of his face is smiling, happy, positive and at the same time astonished.

Not as astonished as I was to find out that this actually for real.

There was a woman on the radio last week who made what I thought was an excellent point – “If you don’t believe in same sex marriage” she said “don’t marry someone of the same sex”.

They either need to get rid of Yates or if he really didn’t dope they need to find some way of corroberating his story.

Therein lies the problem – how can anyone prove they didn’t dope? If Sky were to fire Yates on the basis of guilt by association I imagine his lawyers would have a field day.

Try the Gilfach Wen bunkhouse http://www.brechfa-bunkhouse.com/%5B/url%5D ?
Not near a pub (or anything else for that matter) but might be better than nothing.
The Cothi View cottage owned by the Black Lion in Abergorlech is very nice, but a bit pricey.

Near the start of the Derwen and Raven trails, nearest pub is Black Lion in Abergorlech (about 3 miles away).

    Depends which model I think.
The 4s have moulded pads that don’t take inserts. The ultimates take road pads which Kool Stop do and I think the 6s take standard v brake cartridge inserts.
You could always just buy whole new Koot Stop pads which take their replaceable inserts. They’re not much more expensive than the inserts alone.

Tektro 720s are pretty good at around £35 to £40 a set (2 pairs) and have adjuster screws.
The pads they come with are pretty rubbish though (same with most cantis I think), I changed them to Kool Stop dual compound inserts for another £18 which improved the performance a lot.

It’s not the brakes that are the problem, it’s the pads. Some carbon specific pads would probably make a noticeable improvement. E.g. SwissStop RxPlus Yellow King

Thanks for the offer Junkyard, I may take you up on that.
Although it seems that rig tubing, as used for sea fishing tackle would do the job (and is available in sexy colours as well), e.g. http://www.uk-hooks.com/details.php?selected=705
A quick trip to the nearest fishing tackle shop is coming up.
