What happened to Cavendish’s wheel above. Link to the video?

Tour de Suisse 2010. Cav tangles with Haussler, who seems to ride over Cav’s wheel. Usual handbags and recriminations followed.

Congrats on your son’s performance. As you discovered, the White Hart is a cracking pub, but maybe not the best place to stay for a quiet night in preparation for a ride.
It sure was wet. I went out on the black in the afternoon when the weather improved (rain went from horizontal to diagonal) and it was more or less one continuous puddle. It’s still chucking it down now.
I suspect that flogging round in the mud and rain on a full suss with a hangover probably wasn’t the best introduction to Brechfa :-) Do it again on a dry day on a hardtail and you might find it more pleasant. And if it’s really dry*, the black is well worth trying.

*We don’t know yet which day that will be this year

Is it worth spending more for KoolStop, SwissStop etc. ?

Yes. Softer compound gives much better performance. Either salmon for best stopping or dual for better stopping and longer life.

There is/was a diversion on the forest garden section of the red due to landslide, but people seem to have been successfully ignoring that for a while now (I’m not lawyer)
The big climb on the black is always horrible and muddy, that’s why it’ a black.
Forecast for the weekend is rain, rain and more rain, so the full red&black will be a proper day out.
If you finish up in the Black Lion on Sunday afternoon, I’ll be the old codger in Lycra propping up the bar in the local’s corner- say hello.

True, but feeling faster is faster. The same bike with 23mm tyres at 100psi will feel totally different. Your arse might be the first bit to notice the difference!

Looking forward to doing some of this when I’m up there for Mrs. Rusty’s annual caver’s reunion first week of June. Was planning on following the TdF in the Dales route out of Grassington. 76 miles, 6000 feet including Buttertubs and Park Rash and I’ll be on a cross bike (28mm tyres). Should be ‘fun’. I’ll be ringing ahead to the Muker Tea Rooms and telling them to put the defibrillator on standby.

Cheeky to say the least (or downright rude). A bit like picking up a hitch hiker who then complains that you haven’t got leather upholstery and heated seats.

I’m very much a person who learns best by doing.

Then do it. Install Perl, get the Camel book (Programming Perl from O’Reilly) and look at the millions of examples on the web.
But as DrP says, Perl is for bearded sandal wearers, Python is what the kool kids are using.

Whats everyones thoughts on the 2.5XT?

We’ve got one (had a 2.0 GS before) and it’s pretty fast and very sure on cornering. Mrs Rusty is happy with it and she drives everywhere like a WRC special stage.
Can get two bikes in the back with the seats down, or two dogs with the seats up.

what’s the legality of shooting rabbits on public common ground

Strictly illegal, maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment! It must be private land on which you have permission to shoot.

That was a memorable day! I’ve never ridden a race quite like that before; running walking up a sand dune with bike on my shoulder one minute, ploughing through knee-deep bog the next. Being lapped by George on his fatty was a humbling experience. Well done Matt Page for a superbly organised event.

For group rides, groups should include as many of the following as possible :

1 person who can’t ride uphill
1 person who can’t ride downhill
1 person whose bike costs more than everyone else’s put together
1 person whose bike hasn’t been seen oil in the current decade
1 racing snake who ate half a tangerine 3 days ago
1 tubster who ate a whole Black Forest gateau whilst waiting for the others to turn up
1 person with no tools, food or spare clothing
1 person with a huge rucksack containing an entire CRC warehouse
1 youngster who’s going to turn pro any day now
1 old codger who reluctantly admits to being an ex National Champion

For small groups, some of the above may need to be combined in the same person

I’d suggest that doing a first aid course (e.g. REC Emergency First Aid) so you know what you’re doing is more important than what kit you carry.
That being said, SP Services can provide a variety of suitable kit

these concerned ukranians in the latest russian military gear seem to have borrowed lots of russian military vehicles too!

    From RT live updates[/url]

The photos of military vehicles with Russian plates in Crimea are “certainly a provocation,” Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said. He also dismissed as “absolute nonsense” the allegations that armed people in uniforms without insignia, who are present in the defiant Ukrainian region, are actually Russian soldiers.
The troops in question are part of Crimean self-defense force, Russian officials insist. Moscow has no idea how they came into possession of military hardware, including armored vehicles, Shoigu stated.

Yep. And I’m the King of Siam.

The war starts tomorrow morning at 05.00 sharp apparently. I’d better go for a ride tonight just in case.

Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has told Ukrainian forces in Crimea to surrender by 5 a.m. (0300 GMT) on Tuesday or face a military assault, Interfax news agency quoted a source in the Ukrainian Defence Ministry as saying.

I’m using Hopes on the daily wheels now after a pair of DT Swiss decided to switch to neutral 20 miles from home. Good solid Yorkie engineering, but they don’t half get on your pip after a while. Or as my riding mate said, “They shouldn’t be allowed to use chainsaws on a Sunday”.

It’s a great bike xcetro, and you obviously like it, since this is the 3rd thread you described it in. Full sussers aren’t my bag, but if they were I’d love something like that.
Have you ridden it yet? Why not tell us what it’s like in action?
P.S. I’d slam the stem for max awesomeness, but I’m just an old roadie :-)

Wow! A bouncing bomb bike. If the 100 metre bum slide becomes a recognized event then Glaetzer is a sure fire winner.
