We are both tied on TDF victories

    But you’re ahead on testicles?

Nibali’s time on the Hautacam reported as 37:30. Which puts him 27th on this list[/url]. Hardly damning evidence

Heard him doing an acoustic version of Bright Lights Tonight on the radio the other evening. I was wondering who the other 2 guitarists were till I realised it was just him.

    Middle distance cycling
    Middle distance swimming
    Long distance swimming

Spot on for the first one, totally wrong for the second two. I loathe swimming and was hopeless at it when I tried triathlons.

Interesting pic from BikeRadar – the roll of honour in the broom wagon. Some good riders there!

Meanwhile Thomas and Nieve in the break trying to salvage something for Sky

not so long ago he was riding so badly even his team were questioning him.

What, like last year when he won Giro d’Italia, Tirreno–Adriatico and Giro del Trentino, and came second in Vuelta a España ?

I would imagine that Sky’s tactics will be to keep trying to chip away at Nibali, or at least keep in touch, so that Porte maintains his podium place, with the possibility that Nibali could always have a bad day and open the door for Porte. And there’s still the ITT to come – who knows, Nibali could crack, or fall off. It’s a bike race, so anything could happen (cf. Cav, Froome, Contador, Talansky etc).

if Porte blows up the race is totally over for the team and people will question his selection.

Ain’t that the truth. I have a mental image of Wiggins and Millar sitting together on the Col d’Izoard with a cool box full of cold beers and silly grins on their faces.

Johnny goes up to big school. What stream should he go in? I don’t know, but he once went to a really neat place and told a story about a teddy bear

I’d be more impressed with a bit of tough love

Exactly. And what their insurance company is offering to reimburse them is irrelevant to what they should be offering the OP.

To be fair, the article does make it clear that he was “knocked off his bike” and “hit by a car” and has a bit from his son-in-law

Bradley Wiggins was knocked off his bike near his home, and now a Tour de France pioneer has been knocked off his bike just three miles from his home.
Drivers must be cautious. I would urge everybody to take a couple of seconds to make sure they are not putting somebody’s husband, father or son in jeopardy.

Stick Hinault in the lead car, that should sort it.

I guess the big story is a DNS – Andrew Talansky. He will not be starting today, perhaps not surprisingly considering yesterday.

Very sad picture there, crossing the line with the broom wagon sitting on his back wheel :-(
But hey, at least they’ve still got Millar … oh

BMI of 22 means I have a lower BMI than 94% of males aged 45-59 in the UK. To match the national average I’d have to put on an astonishing 19Kg (3 stone).
Carrying a bit of flab round the tummy I thought I could stand to lose a few pounds.

You need to get the owner to reduce the height between the perch and the top of the roof where it roosts

Removing the top 2″ of the bird would probably work as well.

since he’s now out of the TdF

Still not 100% certain, but likely I guess. From Cycling News –

Mark Cavendish crashed out of contention in the sprint finish on stage 1 of the Tour de France with a separated shoulder.

A separation of the shoulder, also known as a separated acromioclavicular joint, is different to a dislocation in that it is the tearing of ligaments connecting the collarbone and shoulder blade.
Cavendish will undergo an MRI scan for further evaluation, and a decision will be made in the morning as to whether or not he will continue in the race.

I think we should be celebrating this fact, not deriding them

Fair enough. The perception of cycling has changed hugely and can only be beneficial. Telling people you were a cyclist in the ‘old days’ generally resulted in them pitying you because you couldn’t afford a car or looking at you as if you had two heads. Nowadays they tend to say ‘Ooh, me too’ or regale you with their knowledge of the sport.
It’s only natural though that grumpy old roadies who served their apprenticeship when cycling was as fashionable as leprosy find the new found enthusiasm a little bit amusing.

I did (most of) the stage 1 route a few weeks back and passed a prime example. Complete Sky kit including National Champion jersey with ‘Wiggo’ down the side and riding an actual Pinarello.
I rode off up the hill on my CX bike in my touring shorts and old club jersey feeling smugly awesome :D

Also encountered a group from the Skipton CC which included a lady taking a selfie with her phone whilst riding up Grinton. Much more stylish.

I’ve got a mesh back gilet (Gore hi-viz) for the road and in practice find it works OK – it’s shower proof, not water proof after all, and your arms and legs are still going to get wet.
Maybe if rain’s getting on your back you’re not cycling fast enough :-)

If you don’t mind using square taper cranks, SPA Cycles have a variety of Stronglight double and triples where can choose more or less whatever ring combinations you want.
Might be a bit too retro for a flash carbon bike though.
