Sundays and evening riding here, unless it happens to be the summer or half term, then LLOOOONNNNGGG holidays leave plenty of days for riding.

I am still me, what ever games this cruel illness plays, but it wrecks lives and families and is seriously misunderstood and be-littled. I'm lucky to have had great support and treatment, but others aren't, and the longer this is looked at as a joke illness, the less funding and treatment will be available to those in desperate need.

    Sorry for minor rant.

My point exactly. Its a horrible mental illness that ruins peoples lives, but its 'acceptable' to make jokes about it.

In no particular order – work, middle aged spread, my mangled wrist, organised religion, teenagers walking along sharing an i-pod with one speaker each, rubbish dance/chart music, rich celebs acting like idiots, mobile phones, other trades not cleaning up their mess, not seeing my close friends enough, smoking, drunken people, mindless violence, Thierry Henry cheating, being rubbish up hills, the money driven reality of the education system, ema payments, needing a wee in the middle of the night, the fact that OCD is not taken seriously as an illness when it is one of the top 10 disabling illnesses according to the world health organisation and nearly destroyed me, badly cooked chips and rainy weekends.

This list could go on forever, sorry for being a grump.

I was willingly sporting a santa hat in public last Sunday. Funny what parenthood does to you. Had to welcome santa to town with 2 year old.
Anyone who knows what a miserable bas***d i am wont believe this though.

It appears that i saw all of the bands you wish you had in the early 90s.
RATM, first uk show? supporting Suicidal Tendencies, then at the underworld and the ULU. Quicksand at the borderline and garage. Tool supporting fishbone when opiate came out. Beastie boys supporting Rollins band. Chilli peppers and rollins together a couple of times in 91. Smashing pumpkins, not sure what album, but early 90s when billy still had long hair. Nirvana, Soundgarden (badmotorfinger tour), pearl jam (yawn), Johnnny Cash………….

Feel old now, thanks a lot.

Saw My bloody valentine around '91,92ish,- lots of white noise and strobes – quite impressive as i wasn't a big fan. The few times i saw nirvana they weren't all that. Not bad, but hardly earth shattering – give me mudhoney instead any day.

I must have been lucky with mine by the sound of it. I ran a pair of mallets for 3 years with no maintenance (or cleaning really) with no problems at all – just sold them.

T4 2.5 TDi here, builders van, 3 seats, 80,000 miles, lined with ply just fling what you like in the back doesn't matter how dirty. Easy for changing out of dirty gear. Just used to drive to work and ship bikes about. Got a boring avensis for family duties.

After this weeks deluge, i wouldn't bother. World class accident seems to be the fountain of knowledge on this area, but be prepared to be bombarded with BBB info and led around by a strange fixed wheeled contraption. And no arguing with horse riders, eh Pete.

Nothing wrong with a bit of chavness, fit some green neons on the downtube, it would look hilarious on night rides.

How busy? How about mid-week evening rides with regular turnout in the 40s and 50s (i think it broke 60 a couple of times this summer) and winter night rides with 25-30 riders. And that's just from one shop, not including the other shop rides and other groups of locals like the Dorset RR.

Tends to hold a fair few though without continually bumping into people. Walkers can be a problem in the summer, but there's not a lot you can do about that.

I'm going the opposite direction at the moment. Selling my 456 and just bought a BMC elite alu frame to run light with 100mm forks. Lots of climbing on most of the riding i do and as nice as it would be to have a big bouncy bike on the way down, i want something a bit more capable on the way up.

I was worried about the drop in travel on the downhills, as the only two mountainbikes i've ridden since the early nineties are a sub zero and the 456. However after dragging my old rigid alpinestars out on a retroride the other week i actually enjoyed it more than the 456, even on the downhills, as it didn't feel so much like i was just stood there letting the fork do the work. Harder work, but more 'interesting'.

That said, they are excellent frames and i'll probably regret selling it after the new one shakes me to bits! and at 125 quid you can't go wrong.

Yep, i'm in. I've lived in Dorset for the last 7 years, so they wont recognise me anymore! 🙂 Dont ask me about booze though, i dont drink. Winchester area a little off my riding radar, bit further north and i might be more help.

Franks tank is closed (well it was last week) for repairs. It's getting a bit of a mess over there at the moment and i think a few locals will be riding elsewhere for a while, to let the trails recover a bit. I think ridebikes evening outings are moving to Canford Heath as of this week.

MM – we are in danger of getting a reputation for being pub know-it-alls in the North Hampshire area. No prizes for guessing What we wasted our time doing in the late 80's / early 90's.

Well that was a little damp wasn't it. Brake levers back to the bars here. At least the old alpinestars is still clean (apart from egg and ketchup stains on the top tube from a lunch time accident). Cheers C_G.
