Unless its stupidly hilly, then a Langster or something similar. No gears, less expense, same fun.

I ride mine more than my geared bikes and can drag it up most climbs around here without my knees exploding.

I would show you around, but haven’t got a mountainbike anymore and don’t want to wreck my cross bike on the rocks a couple of weeks before the summer race series kicks in.

Scorching here at the moment. I can see the Corfe ridgeway out the window 🙂

If you are driving down this afternoon/evening, have fun in the traffic jams 🙁

A sneaky evening ride around Canford Heath is always a winner too if you can get away with it and are staying close.

Rempstone Forest/Isle of Purbeck Golf Club (via Franks Tank decent), 9 Barrow down, Corfe Castle tearooms, Kingston, Square and Compass, Swanage, Obelisk climb, Old Harry Rocks, Bankes Arms and back to ferry.
    That should do the trick.
If you’re from up north, don’t forget the suntan lotion and sunglasses 😉

Usually a load going out on the 10am ferry Sundays. I’m sure you could tag along/join in.
It’s pretty easy to miss all the good stuff if you go unguided.
Alternatively contact Ride cycleworks or Dorset Rough Riders to see where they are heading out from at the weekend.
If it’s road riding you want, then early Sunday a few of us are out.

Office full of builders. Let it rip! The amount of veg and fruit i eat makes me king trumper and the bane of the team.
Let it all go at the end of tea break before going back to teach and leave it to rot in the office is my top tactic.
If i can’t let it go silently in class, then i occasionally leave the classroom to drop my guts rather than unleashing in front of the class.

    Better out than in…PARP!

    These all tick the boxes.
If using for road and cx duties, gearing is a bit of an issue. Road compact is a bit off for cx racing (i always found myself at the top end of inner ring or bottom end of big ring).
CX gearing doesn’t really go high or low enough for regular road use.

2nd hand for £800ish and a spare pair of wheels so you dont have to keep swapping tyres for road duties.

Up the hills won’t be a problem, it’s the rocky downhills i don’t fancy.

Mine yesterday, still in winter mode.
Great little bike, built the stock hubs into some open sport rims and it made a world of difference comfort wise.
So good it convinced me to sell my Lynskey as i couldn’t justify having a £1k framed bike that didn’t ride any better than a £300 winter hack.

Don’t know where the posters were, it was brought to my attention a couple of weeks ago.
I’m over in Poole, so not really local, my rides over that way are usually part of loops i do out of here.

I did this event a couple of times in the last few years and agree it is too big.
One day would be sufficient and maybe a few less riders.
Also seen a fair bit of litter (gel wrappers etc) dropped by riders.
This would be certainly lessened if they didn’t dish out a bag full of them to most starters before the event. There are food stops with bins, if the food isn’t enough, at least shove the wrappers in your pockets.
No doubt there is probably some stupid riding done by some Strava boys pinning it trying to get a time in, but as a whole most riding i’ve seen has been reasonably sensible.
Tricky one i suppose, it’s the whole discouraging sport and exercise side of the complaints that bug me, and if you’ve had the pleasure of going within 10 miles of Lyndhurst during the summer, a few bikes are the least of their traffic problems.

“most of the objections to people using the forest seem to come from those that have just moved there”.
…apart from the miserable sod from Sway sitting next to me at work as i type this..

    Local support?
No chance of that, this is the latest in a long running saga. Move to a beautiful area then expect to have it to yourself all year.
Don’t even talk about off road access, horse riders can churn the place up as much as they like, but put a wheel off piste and they will spout about how the Royals gave them sole rights hundreds of years ago….er yeah, before bikes were invented.

Think i’ll ride in the forest Friday and Monday instead this weekend, less traffic 🙂 Purbecks at the weekend, it’ll be empty on the roads there.

To be fair i think the wiggle events should be limited to one day not two as a compromise, but then we have to queue up all over the place for a whole week of the New Forest Show and i can’t imagine many objections come in for that from the curtain twitchers.

Most of the poor cycling i see in the forest is from families in summer taking up half the road wobbling about everywhere.
Most issues i’ve had are from impatient motorists trying got squeeze by you to be 5 seconds earlier to their next cucumber sandwich party.

Not helped by the local rags anti-bike stance either.
Posters up in pubs locally encouraging locals to photograph and shop riders they consider to be riding dangerously to the police.

For a change they are all sorted and running correctly.

Main road bike has new front mech after last one snapped (Italian quality engineering) and new summer wheels to go on when it brightens up.

SS road bike is all sorted and set up with new bars and mudguards.

CX bike just rebuilt with new bearings in headset and BB and new cables and brake blocks.

BMX is all dialled in just incase i want it.

Inbred is fully sorted but on eBay and classifieds as i never use it.

My latest isn’t too minging in my opinion.
For 100 quid on ebay it rides at least as well as the ti Lynskey it replaced as well.
