Welcome to my specialist area. Where to start? The attempts at learning i see in my job would either inspire you or scare you off completely.

If it's a garden wall or something, go for it, anything else get some serious advice and realise exactly what you are letting yourself in for.

Or let me teach you :-). We're not cheap but we are good!

p.s. lesson 1 is about an hour of rolling muck and then you're away and laying.

Go down the local playing fields for an hour to play about with them. Falling off on grass is a bit nicer than the road.

The town itself is nothing special, but surrounding villages are nice. Traffics a nightmare all summer. Saunton golf courses are excellent but hard work in the wind. It's a long way from any 'decent' towns, so shopping (for the missus) and live music are limited. The link road to the M5 is longer than it looks. Parking in Woolacombe is a pain all summer. It's really nice in the winter. The Big sheep is pretty decent for kids. I like it down there but would struggle to live there.

Riding, not too sure – there are plenty of hills! My best mate lives in Knowle near Braunton, i could ask him.
There's a bike shop in Braunton that looks ok, could be worth asking about the riding scene in there.

I'm a maybe, but probably not. I think i'm in Andover at my mums, so local'ish, but don't know when or what i'll be doing. I'll let you know later in the week.

I'm 5'10, so i doubt it. I'll check the actual size tonight. It's in Dorset.

You can have this if you want, I need some shed room. 105 groupset, campag seatpost, cinelli bars, etc.

Get an 18", top tube length difference will be small, and a 20" will look like a gate. 🙂
I had a 16" at 5'10" with long arms, with 65mm stem and no layback post but the seat back in the rails a bit. Was a bit wheelie prone when climbing, hence the longer stem on my new slotty inbred.

You have to spec them pretty bling to get the weight much below 30lb though, so don't expect it to be a rocketship up hills unless you've got deep pockets (or suspect scales :D). Quick downhill with 140mm pikes on though.

I got rid of mine as most of my riding is in the Purbecks with plenty of climbing, and the trade off for 5 minutes fun downhill was the hour and a half climbing each ride to get up there in the first place.

No, i've got short legs and monkey arms. Haven't ridden it yet, i've got an 80mm stem on standby in case. Had a 16" 456 before and it was the same length more or less as my 18" bmc.
When i was fitted for my last road bike, it seems i've got silly long arms as i pretty much need a 54cm seat tube frame but with a 58cm frames top tube. Must be lifting all those concrete blocks stretching my arms.

100mm stem, although it looks long in the photo.

Carbon stays won't make a lot of difference to be honest, but they look nicer so that's a good enough reason for me. As for campag/shimano debate, has to be campag as the name is nicer 😛

High end campag stuff is really nice, lower end not so great apparently. I've got Chorus 11 speed on mine and its lovely.
105 is good stuff, depends whether you WANT campag really as road stuff doesn't wear out like mountain bike kit anyway and isn't affected by the conditions so pretty much always works. The SRAM stuff seems good value too.
