Longer ago than my appearance would suggest . Best part of 20 years ago i’d have thought (and that was more Audley Harrison than Mike Tyson).

It seems a 2 way thing around here. I’m getting used to being ignored by mountainbikers when i’m out on the road bike. Suits me though as i’m a miserable git at heart anyway.

Moaning, beer, fry ups, page 3, fox hunting, public school, council estate, binge drinking, tea drinking, football hooligan, country gents, Chubby Brown, Stephen Fry, MCC, working mens clubs, Carry on films, Brideshead revisited…….

I’d say we’re a bit confused really. But our superiority complex means we are still better than everyone else!

Lack of compact / semi compact cross frames made it pretty diffiult for me to find someting to fit my strange body.
Short legs and monkey arms means a shortish seat tube and long top tube required. Finally found something pretty close to my road bike geometry (still a bit short).

Ebay special, under £300 for complete bike :-).

Purbecks has plenty of hills, but not enormously long. I’ll be dragging myself up a few of them tomorrow. When are you here?

‘I love this forum! So many friendly, helpful people.’

Ok, to balance the world out a bit, i live in Poole and won’t do it for you because i’m going out on my bike. 👿

Hair, lots of tattoo work, some ugly scarring, some hip bone (although that’s technically in my wrist) and an orange OCD-UK ‘just a thought?’ wristband.

Love mine. I moved down from a 456 (via a BMC race bike) to this and it’s much better for me (even at nearly 14 stone ). Run Rebas at 100mm on it and it’s more than enough for the Purbecks and places like Swinley.

Not much in the last 6 months, the roadbike is so much more convenient and fun (for me). The cross bike i got recently is going to take a bashing though so i will at least get dirty occasionally (infact i enjoy riding it so much i’m considering binning the mtb).

I never noticed anything odd about the SMB war memorial in Mulletus Maximuses’ first photo all the times i stood in front of it holding a flag as a cub on remembrance day.

BMX doesn’t get used much these days and is lurking in my mums garage because she lives near a race track (and it’s for sale on classifieds!)

Mountainbike hasn’t been ridden much this winter but is having an outing this week.

CX bike is new and had it’s first ride today.

Road bike does a couple of 30 milers a week.

More likely to find burnt out cars than nicked bikes at the Plannies. I would think one of the numerous lovely housing estates might be a better bet. The riding scene town is pretty small and everyone would know if a £5k bike suddenly appeared.
Most likely to have been shipped out to another town or being ridden around a housing estate by a thieving scratter.

I don’t live there anymore, but will put up description on facebook for my mates that still do. Good luck.

Very impressed with mine. Looks good on as well, not too big and mushroomy like the new spesh prevail looks to me.

If i’m on my own they go in the van, if i’m with the family it goes on the back (of the avensis) attached to a Saris carrier which i’m pretty impressed with so far. Had Renault roof bars and carriers on a clio before this, and didn’t like/trust them (although better quality ones may be better).

Got a Limar 909 new on ebay the other week. 30 odd quid for a £90 helmet, really light and comfy.

Surfing if i lived in the right place. BMX if i was younger again (assuming that doesn’t count as cycling). Lots of money. A Minogue 3 way.

    Under £300

Might drop the front a bit. Need to ride it a bit more first, and i’ve got a knackered wrist so i’ll run it like this for a while.

Yep, like that. Bit overkill for Swinley imo, but very nice.

Rolling around the streets/car parks etc won’t take much time or pain to learn, but to be any good at anything more technical will require a lot of time and effort and almost certainly a fair amount of pain (even if it’s just to the ankles, shins and pride).

I say go for it and don’t forget to film it so we can all laugh at a fellow old bloke making a tit out of himself :D.

Note, i once spent a fair amount of time in a hospital ward with a young lad who had stepped off the front of a longboard at 20+ mph and sent his fib and tib flying through his skin.

Don’t think i’ll be able to make the Wokingham>Bogner ride. Longleat sportive the week after and pretty sure i won’t get a full day pass 2 weeks in a row. 🙁

£500 perhaps. It looks the part so may attract some attention on ebay.

If i was looking for one of them i’d pay about that for a mint second hander as there’s no way i’d pay £950 for an ally framed hardtail with that kit and fork.

As above, at least it’s the right size to sell not a 21″er for giants only.

Sounds good to me Dr. You working this weekend? or fancy an evening special?

Wife ok’d it as long as i sell the bmx (1 in 1 out).

My 456 and my BMC frame both headed to the highlands, so i guess they’re still lost in the snow somewhere.

    What do they cost new?

Forks are some cro-mo ones from Tange. Likely to be swapped for some carbon ones if i can pick up some cheapish ones without the missus noticing.

Will the snow have melted by then? and if so, will they have tarmac’d the horse tracks?

If not, we’re having one down here in the sun 😉

I’ll have to check dates with she who must be obeyed, but i’m in. Haven’t been up Coombe Hill since my courting days! (infact we probably double dated up there with a couple of young ladies a looooong time ago didn’t we MM?) 😳

I was running a Zorlac John Gibson set up around ’86 (can’t remember what hardwear was on it though). Also just about old enough to have ridden the 2 bowls (1 snake run i think) that they had at Thruxton race track in the mid/late ’70s (i was about 7!), although missed out on Andover swimming pool/park.

Looks like athena groupset too, so someway from the top of the campag tree. Seems like a lot of money to me (although it’s very pretty).

Wokingham to Bogner is a long way from where the OP lives. 😕

Having said that, I would probably be up for both.

@MM – where you thinking of having the tea break?
