As a Lynskey owner, i can honestly say that i’m glad it’s not that one!…although i’ll have the wheels and seatpost 😉

Mostly the road bike even though i cant squeeze gaurds on it. Don’t do massive miles, so i hope the parts will hold up ok, and the frame’s ti so that should be fine.
Having said that, i’m gonna take the cross bike out tomorrow as i’m fed up getting punctures from crap on the road.
More likely to use the cx bike when out on my own as i don’t need to keep up with anyone.

I’m sure those Chinarello’s ride really nicely, but i wish people wouldn’t stick those pina stickers on them – be proud of what you’ve got, not what you want (just my opinion though).

I would say ‘full custom’ would mean made to measure, ‘custom build’ could mean put together from a collection of parts, and ‘upgraded/modified’ could mean improving/changing a complete bought bike.

By this, i have 2 of the second sort.

What bike did you end up getting?

    ‘Shimano or Sram?’…..Campag!

Although to be fair at that budget i’d get 105 😳

Not particularly, but if everyone thought i was a knob, i’d probably have a look at myself to see if they had a point…….Oh! 🙁

Saddle bag – multi tool, tube, tyre levers, CO2 canisters.

Jersey pockets – Food (energy bars and gels usually for me), mobile, keys, waterproof jacket if needed, camera, money.

    Drinks in bottles on frame.

Cant think of anything else that would need to go in a bag.

Depends how long your arms are. I’m 5’10 with short legs and long monkey arms and ride a medium long frame with a 120mm stem.

Had a 56cm Trek before that was too short but too tall for me. Test rode the 54 which was ok height wise but WAY too short.

If you’ve got anything like the length of arms i have you’ll dwarf a 50 or 52. Get yourself measured, or test ride a load – it’ll be worth it in the long run.

Even harder when i was trying to get a cx frame that would fit, as they come up short in the top tube as it is.

The 3 main roadie gears shifters are all pretty different, but all pretty good.
Shimano and Sram are fairly compatible with each other component wise, but Sram have a double tap thing at the shifters that some people like and some dont.
Shimano lever action and shifting is pretty smooth and slick where as Campag is more defined and mechanical (and has 11 speed for the top 4 groupsets).
Campag also has a thumb lever for up shifts (as does low end shimano, but nowhere near as good). I had sora on a previous bike and the thumb shifting wasn’t great as you can only go 1 gear at a time instead of 5 like high end campag.

Personally i’ve got Campag chorus 11 speed and think its great, however for under a grand and with no brand preference i’d probably be switching over to shimano 105 or sram rival as the cheaper campag stuff doesn’t feel as good (i’ve got mirage on the cx bike).

If i had that budget i’d be going second hand. Should be able to get something pretty special for close to a £1k.

Wont go far wrong with this. Grand Tour winning pedigree frameset and 105. Only weak points are potentially brakes and chainset.
I’d probably go with the planet x or boardman though.

Usually a long sleeve hot weather base layer under a short sleeve jersey. 2 reasons really – lots of gorse bushes in the Purbecks means your arms get cut to bits, and also means i don’t have to plaster sun tan lotion everywhere.

‘advantages- you don’t have to get new shoes’ !!!

Surely getting new shoes is one of the major advantages 🙂

    Shimano here and no complaints

It’s not that bad at the moment, you could probably drag it out for another year or so. Mind you, i know what you pay for a haircut so i’d have it off now to save the money :-). (ya bald ….!)

Purbecks and local heaths from home. Although lately it’s been mostly on the roads of Dorset (just heading out to the New Forest in a minute on the road bike too). 🙂

I had one of them Mk1 XR2s as my first car. Cracker it was until i wrote it off. Those pepper pot wheels didn’t take kindly to hitting a concrete post at 70mph, not sure i found all the bits, but then i didn’t hunt in the field for that long. 😳

    Belgium – Bikes, chips, beer

    Oz – so many reasons

Hawaii (a couple of times) – love it

Fiji – beautiful and friendly and a bit rough around the edges.

Wherever you go, make the most of sitting in a bar or restaurant in peace and quiet and taking your time eating. It could be the last time for a lot of years! (p.s. congratulations Rich).

As stated, St Ives is lovely (when you’re not wrestling the kids around) and this time of year most towns, villages and roads should be nice and quiet. Just avoid Newquay for obvious reasons.

    Not bad at all.
Kids are lovely (shame they can’t sleep all night, but i can live with that).
Wifes job looking a bit dodgy, but she’ll get another.
    Work is work.
    House could do with finishing.
    Riding plenty.
    Weather’s starting to turn.

    Thanks for asking.

This was less than £2K (just!). Chuck £500 at some posh wheels and it’d be even better.
