Love the Shane Weston section. That flip trick is ugly, but balls of steel!

Impressive, but rather see Aitken or Stauffer doing a table.

Good enough fenred. It was one of the only few 54s long enough for my monkey arm/short leg combo. Done a few races this winter on it as well as trail work.

At £300 for the whole bike off ebay i have no complaints.
It’s going to get a carbon fork on it as soon as i can find a second hand one cheap enough for the wife to ok. 🙄

Bloke i know has one as well, built posh with shimergo (campy ergo shifters and shimano mechs) set up and he seems happy with his too.

I may be wrong, but i think they might be the same as the Dolan ones.

Don’t expect some miracle magic carpet ride by going Ti. My Langster feels pretty similar stiffness and comfort wise to my Lynskey and cost £200 not £2000!

I went Ti just because i’ve always wanted one and so that i wouldn’t want to replace it after a year for being ‘last years colours/technology’.

A few photos from todays ride. 40 odd mile route from Poole, 30 of which are off road. No mud and no need to clean the bike afterwards. 😀

5 minutes from home and we’re off road
[/img]

Shortcut bit of singletrack through the woods
[/img]

5 minute coffee stop to look at the steam train
[/img]

Dive into the woods
[/img]

For a couple of 20 minute laps
[/img]

A little bit of this
[/img]

Plenty of this on the way home
[/img]

And the sun even came out 🙂
[/img]

Roll on Saturday, lets have a bit more of it.

“Calf hurts a lot less than thigh”

Yep definetely. Calfs and upper arms are no problem unless you go on for more than a couple of hours at a time.

Only problems i’ve had with lower legs is swelling and bruising (around top of sock line) for a couple of days afterwards if you spend a lot of time on your feet.

As for worrying what to get or what people will think, get whatever you want and sod everyone else, it’s your body and none of their business 🙂

Similar size to you, 5’10”, 30″ leg, monkey arms. Took me ages to find something long enough in the TT but still a 54″ ST.
Picked this up in the end on ebay. Little bit shorter than my road bikes, but near enough.

Cheers druidh, I’ve got a 16″ inbred and had a 16″ 456. 5’10” with long monkey arms and short arse 30″ inside leg. 😀

If i ever change my inbred (not likely for a couple of years) i might be tempted to give one a chance. Seems like they are no longer just for lanky types.

Seeing as we seem to be justifying our own choices, i’ll say Poole 🙂

Year round usable quality trails within easy riding distance (Purbecks, Canford Heath, Wareham Forest, New Forest).

Drivable alternatives (Puddletown, uk bike park etc.).

Quality road riding (New Forest, Purbecks, North of Wimborne).

Brand new full size outdoor velodrome in Bournemouth.
National standard bmx track in Bournemouth.

VERY healthy riding scene (lots of organised group rides if thats your thing).

Seaside location.
Better than Swanage to actually live as better work options.
Bournemouth next door if you want to go on the lash and chase ladies/gentlemen.
Not that expensive to live (unless you want to be Harry Redknapps next door neihbour in Sandbanks).
Good bike shops (although no more Bikelab RIP 🙁 ).
Nice weather (did it snow last winter? Oh yeah, we had half a day of that too and a couple of frosts!)

It’ll do for me.

A lot of the interesting/fun singletrack stuff (Franks tank etc) is in the golf course area. Easy enough to find if you know where to look (er that sounds a bit rubbish).

A good 30+ mile route is easy enough to link together, but i’m not sure how to set a link up to one here.

Put a thread up nearer the time or mail me and i’ll show you around if you want.
Either that or give the guys at Ride Cycleworks in Poole a buzz as they run large group rides over there a couple of times a week (including beginners rides for newbies). If you are staying in Swanage, pop into Charlie the Bikemongers and he’ll probably be able to point you in the right direction too.

“For the moment, I can’t quite bring myself to remove the peak from my helmet. There’s a little voice inside my head that shouts “NOOOOOOO, you are a mountain biker” “

Seen any mountain bike racers lately? Not many peaks around on those boys. Most mtb’ers down here ride a bit of both and wear one helmet for both.

It’s just a peak.

Bet your legs are shaved by June 🙂

To be fair to Weymouth, there’s plenty there. Sea-life centre (expensive though), fairground stuff, donkey rides, etc. It’s just that ever time i go there i always say i’ll never go there again.
Lyme Regis is nice (if a little isolated).
As said before, make sure you avoid Olympics weeks as the traffic will be horrendous. It’s bad enough Friday nights and Saturday mornings anyway, tailing back/crawling from Wimborne bypass back to Southampton sometimes!
With little kids, i’d try and avoid those times to travel, particularly if it’s during the school holidays.

Urgh! Weymouth. Big, dull beach and a grotty town centre. Bridport is a bit grim too.

Swanage much nicer and good riding in the Purbecks and Wareham Forest.

Or you can stay in our kids playhouse in our back garden in Poole for a small fee 🙂

…at least big bars are back ‘in’ at the moment, as it won’t feel quite as weird swapping over like a few years ago when they were all 4″ narrower.

Slammed seats are a bit odd though, especially if you only ride xc usually and are used to having something between your legs.

Don’t bother with pegs, gyros or any of that nonsense. Front brake is debatable, no one really bothers having one (unless they do a lot of front wheel tricks) but it might be worth keeping it on for a little while if you haven’t ridden without before in case of panic/emergency grabs. 😕

If it’s just gonna be used at a track then get a race bike (alu or 4130) but if you think you might do some dirt jumping or street/park stuff then a long’ish trail/park frame will be stronger, if slightly heavier.

p.s. where are you based and where are you riding?

Brew Pro XL with 21.25″ tt (i’m 5’10” with long arms)

At 6’2″ you’re gonna need some room up front, so at least 21″ tt, preferably longer, whether it’s a cruiser or a 20″.

Cant be bothered with changing tubeless tyres for one ride, so will be running my regular year round Purbecks set up of Conti Vertical up front on and Bonty revolt x on back (for added wheelspin action!) :?.

Waterproofs? Nah, lycra will have to do.

See you tomorrow. 🙂
