I’m afraid most of mine involve the photoshopping of a work colleague. 🙂

Thanks all. The Argos ad got me thinking, £120 for the Kinect thing with some games. Wife ordered me to look into it.

Nant-y-arian. No question. Great cafe. Great location. Relatively smooth. Mark of Zorro is simply ace. Long climb afterwards but its an easy one.

Hang the bike up with some rope, so its free to swing. Big bar – socket set extension is ideal, positioned close to the axle as you can. Peice of cloth to stop it slipping if needed. Sharp smack with a lump hammer. If you do this with the bike on the ground it could do some damage. Having the bike free to swing should mean most of the force goes into the arm. Its worked for me in the past.

Yes, liked them. But prefer Lizard Skinz North-Shore’s. Nice big fat grips.

I’ve run Juicy’s for years. For what folk sell them off for on here, they are excellent brakes, but they need a bit of fettling.

Turn the caliper upside down & bolt it to the opposite side of the mount – screw in from the rear. Just so you can work on it held firmly.
Open the tiny bleed screw on the lever a tiny bit.
Using two flat screwdrivers in a sort of scissor action push both pistons back at the same time. Close the bleed screw. They will go right back in. “Assemble” the pads & spring & locate them in the caliper. There is a correct way, the spring is offset, its easy to see. One at a time grip the little tabs with some pliers & click them into place. often they will push in with finger pressure.
Periodically, take out the pads & gently work the brake lever so the pistons come out a few mm, then give them a spray of GT85. Push them back in & repeat. Helps to stop them sticking.
Dont be tempted to run Juicy pads right down, they are more prone to sticking the more the pistons come out of the bores.

10mm^2 is huge stuff. And costs a fortune. I remember when our shower went in, (10.5kw).
    8500/230 = 35amp.
    10500/230 = 45amp.

Would one of those old two-man lever propelled railway carts fit on the railway track ? That could be fun.

Same problem here. Tried everywhere online. Happened on a local bike shop who’d just had some gloves in. Fingerless, but the smallest size fitted our 3yr old perfectly.
For winter I bought bigger sizes & some cheap woolen ones to go underneath.
Measure the circumference of his hand & I’ll see how they compare to my lads. If no luck I could always see if they have any left for you.

Islabikes might be worth a call, not sure if they do kit also. Probably wont be cheap though.

Try a 29er ? I gave up my FS last Autumn. Started with a 26″ Inbred, now trying a 29″ version. Erring towards the big wheels. Don’t knock till you’ve tried it…
Either way, steel ht fits my needs, love feeling the trail, bike just seems alive. FS feels bit dead now.

    Wish the 26 & 29 versions were so cheap…

It also means bargain s/h 9 spd stuff for the less well off off / tight. ; (

Slight aside, sounds like your Ventana fits nicely, why not a steel frame with same geometry…
Couldnt something like an Inbred make a cheap donor for a frame builder to hack about ?
Ventana don’t do steel do they ?

Was running mine at 120mm & it was perfect. 2nd gen one, not sure if they were different.

the middle ring rubs the underside of the swingarm when in large ring.

    ??

The outer plate should just clear the big ring by a few mm when shifting up to the outer ring. Are the hi-lo screws adjusted properly ? I always set front mechs with no chain on, & by hand at first. Park Tools guides are usually very good.

20mm isnt going to kill it. Couldnt you run a bit more sag if it feels funny.

Makes my legs go to jelly just looking at that pic.

A mate, & some locals, took me down a little run near his place in Derbyshire once. Ambergate Woods I think it was, technically that was the hardest thing I’ve ridden.
Theres a rocky gully at the top of the MachX that always catches me out.

    what is ton?

There’s a scene in Father Ted, where Dougal is describing the “Beast of Craggy Island”…

Never met Ton, he reads like a top bloke though.

I use them. 2.35 DTC Nev on the rear, 2.35 Stickee BG on the front. I like them. Dont seem too draggy, except for the Stickee Nev I got for the back by mistake once.

As soon as the trails dry out its Smallblock 8 time for me. Far more capable than a tyre like that should be.

Going through a simmilar thing mate. Started when I realised my rigid ss Inbred was more of a hoot than my Ventana. Not sure why, just something about its simplicity. And the fact it cost less than the wheels on my FS. I’ve just finished building a 29er Inbred. Will see how that goes. Either way, I’m going back to one bike. Run ss, but with spare 9spd rear wheel, chain & cabled up shifter & mech for where ss is too much for me. Really looking forward to summer, now. Some classic old time “see where that trail goes” type rides. Hell, might even get me a map & compass. 🙂

Check out the niner website, there is a video of a chap giving their carbon fork a right bashing with a hammer. And I’m guessing that cullen chap above is some kind of material scientist, who has personally tested On-One carbon kit to the extreme, in order to make such a statement…thought not. 😉

I find genuine Avid pads work best on Juicy’s. They certainly last longest. Sounds like the pads were never properly burned in. They need a good 5 or 6 real high speed repetitive stops to give the best performance. Not tried Elixirs though, they sound good.

Can I ask stumpy01…how are they less faff ?

I’ve always found the WTB’s to be very comfy, if a little bulky (& heavy), but I quite like the Charge Spoon these days. I have Ti & Cro-Mo versions & apart from the 15g weight difference the Ti one is comfier on a ht.

You have to put it on nice & thick. It will come off, but might well need to be softened by a couple of applications. But think thick, & do small areas at a time. I stripped a ht frame a year or so back, laid out a bin-liner on the floor & ket popping out every 30 mins or so to re-apply. Took about 2-days. Failing that, chemically stripping is a lot easier. I was just being tight. 🙂

I did an alloy ht with plastikote. Came out nice. Needs good month to harden off, somewhere warm. The Plastikote worked well as its quite thick. We have a powder painting dept at work, but they only do matt black, so used that as an undercoat. I’ll see if I have a pic somewhere.

    Assuming its s road c2c, wouldn’t a roadbike be better…
Failing that, slicks & some comfy contact points on the old ‘dale would be fine. If its got rack mounts get a rack & cheap pannier. Loads better than a rucksack over 3 days.

I’ve got a desktop cradle/charger for my Desire HD. Charges & comes up as a drive for dropping music/pics on/off etc. Not a fan of typing on my HD though, but I’ve Shrek like fingers so struggle on most phones.
I looked closely at the iphone, but whichever way you do it they want the thick end of £800 out of you. Sorry, thats just silly money.
I could buy a bike for that. 😀

If you fancy some U-Turn Revs, I’ve got some 110-140mm’s I was going to put on Ebay. You’d need a thru-axle wheel though.

No, good software & once you get beyond 15-20 lines it is easier. Not used the 2010 version, 2003 I think ours is, might even be 2000. 😕

Went rigid recently. Done so before, but this time carbon forks, nice big front tyre, carbon bars & comfy grips. Should have done it a long time ago. Wont suit rockfests, but for what I do I’m happy.
