I have been looking at Vigilantes recently as they look like reasonable value for money. Also the weight looks fairly decent. The Shorty looks like a beast of a tyre but having never owned one is it not a DH specific tyre? Out last night and it was pretty horrific, which means i need to change sooner rather than later. Wet roots being a particular pain. Whilst no rubber is going to make me a better rider, something a little more confidence inspiring in the wet brown stuff would be great.

Probably too early to ask but has anyone got any idea of the frame weight of the new trail fatty? I have a pretty belonged up OOF but would consider upgrading the frame if there is significant weight saving. I have looked at carbon alternatives but can’t justify the cost given its not my main bike.

I have one, the post functions perfectly but the romote system is useless. First sign of muck and the actuator sticks open. I am going to change to a reverb again

    or a

    “Family Bucket of Fattys’

Graham builds a wicked set of wheels does he.

So I’m told. I am going from standard but drilled OOF wheelset. To DT Swiss BR710 rims on Halo hubs. Couldn’t justify the uplift to hope even if i could have purple hubs. Graham says these rims are lighter than many carbon sets. We shall see, as long as they are significantly lighter than my OO wheels. im happy. Not cheap mind…….

Mosey, where are you based? My medium spitfire is for sale I am 5’8/5’9 with a 29″ inside leg. Which is very very short (some say pathetic). I am selling my bike and you are more than willing to cock a leg
Over it. Even if you are not interested in buying mine! I do run a longer stem (60mm) as I have a longer body to make up for my leg length

It’s the grey ones as well. I expect the ginger ones to be a little angry…Ginger things generally are. But these things are suicidal and I wouldn’t be exaggerating if i said i saw like 50 on a 25km loop

I just bought a set of these. Pretty heavy and square taper! However 152mm and most importantly I can remove the chainrings! Will be fitted with a 30t n/w single ring shortly. Standard 104bcd cheapest. Best option I could find

I think that’s slight more cash Poah for what looks to be a similar level brake-set isnt it? as you have to buy them individually Not to up to speed with the entry level kit to be honest

    Thanks chainline.

So I should probably start my own build thread. However, the Rocket Ron tyres arrived yeasterday after a long wait. Fitted to my daughters bike this morning and have lost over 1.5lbs in the process!!! Ideal. next up is to sort the wheels (hopefully chainline will tick that box) and brakes. I am in two minds with what to do with the brakes. I have two sets of Avids, neither a complete set. However to make them a complete set i would need to buy a bleed kit, olives, inserts etc. I am looking at a set of brand new Altus hydro brakes on CRC for £30!! Plus £5 for the olives and inserts when i have to shorten the hose. Has any one used the Altus brakes? I cant see that they have reach adjust which may be important for the girl.

finding decent light’ish 24″ wheels is proving a nightmare. Think I am going to have to buy the components and drop them into my local wheel builder.

Guys, what wheels are you running on your kids blast/Luna I have bought my daughter a Luna and plan to upgrade it. I am awaiting some rocket rons which will lighten it up, I have a set of brakes to fit, ordered a set of proper 152 cranks, but the standard free hub is 7 speed so need to upgrade rear hub. I would rather buy an off the shelf lighter wheelset but could do with recommendations.

I have a pair of the ss ones. They are great and have lasted well, grip is great wet and dry and helps reduce some of trail buzz. I have a slight tear in one now after an off but it’s still usable and great. Will order some more soon.

It was a great course want it. As with all events of this type the initial traffic made some of the downhill sections more tricky as you needed to carry speed to make them comfortable. Wish i had come up on the saturday and ridden a loop first! But then i probably would of still fallen off and buggered my back. ha. Looking forward to doing it again!

The Freeminers extension has only been open a month or so (If that) Bigyinn, so its changed since your visit.

Got to be honest i am fairly local and have yet to ride it. Never really liked the original Freeminers as i felt that too much had ben crammed into, what was a short loop. Really tight switchbacks etc. Just felt that if i was going for a quick local loop the Verder just offered more fun! Glad they have extended it now and will give it a bash next time I am over there for a few hours without the kids in tow!

I retired after 1 lap, really enjoyed my self the course was great, but had completely miss judged my tyre pressures and before I actually got round the drop them, I had an otb moment on one of the off camber descents. Tweaked my already fragile back which meant the climbs were teeth grinders. This coupled with feeling really rough I Decided to call it a day which was/is a real shame, but better to live another day. Couple of people looked in a bad way with paramedics. Hope everyone is ok.

Great event, great course, real gem! Will be back next year and for the madorc again in September….probably on a fat bike by then.

Wife’s arrived in the post today, fitted straight away. The quality is great for the cash and the lever, motion seems excellent, sadly the wife has a tiny frame and I can’t get the post into the frame enough so it looks like I might have to send it back or sell it. May just keep it on the shelf mind.

I have had a pair for about 6 months now and given them a kicking. Build quality was fine, rim quality is fantastic. Setup tubeless straight away. Just wish they offered hope hubs as a complete build . But even the standard ss hubs have been faultless to be honest. I would buy another pair tomorrow!
