Yet another vote for RSF. Dave fixed my faulty reverb and returned to me within in a week, working better than new! Will be getting my work going forward. Also had great service from J-Tech in the past with custom fork tuning.

Jeez, mine were both fine this weekend….Well i say that one of them still drops 10mm when I sit on it, has done for months needs a service! and the other has only just come back from a total rebuild, following catastrophic meltdown.

Thats an interesting point on bedding the pads in. Something i must confess to not doing. I also have to confess to using said pads in the winter, a winter thats been one of the mildest and wettest on record so hardly surprising. However for contrast the original Shimano pads I swapped back to after my second set of SS were nuked lasted brilliantly, in fact they still had over 50% life left in them when I sold the bike. Its fair to say they are a different compound, so maybe I’m being a little unfair. But like I say, I really rate SS and most of their products.

I have ordered loads from them over the years. I have had wheels lose tension, which took me 15 minutes to fix. A bearing extractor fall to bits, replaced by them albeit questioning my usage. Brake pads that lasted 2 rides. All in all given the amount i have used them I have been really happy. I expect things to go wrong, its life. Its how you handle the problems that make you a good ro bad company. So far I have been really happy. That said I wouldn’t bother with their Kevlar pads again, but accept it may be my usage.

In fact if someone could sell me one without a warranty for about £250 more than I can buy one for online then I would be super stoked!

I hope you’re selling a 2015 Brand new Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon Evo 650b Medium Frame for £1500, ‘cos I’ll be damned if if can find one.

And me….I would love one in a tennis ball yellow kind of colour. You just never see one for sale….if only!

Absolute black are currently looking at the hope interface I’m told. Following my messaging them last week. Basically I want an oval direct mount hope crank compatible chainring….currently it’s not possible. I actually wish I had another crankset now the choice is so limiting

Do you spend lots of time in the car or sat at a desk? If so you may have tight hamstrings, I suffer with this and have to spend time every morning and before I go for a ride stretching them to ensure I don’t suffer with horrific lower back pain cycling. Give it a go.

Just fitted a Fat B nimble to the back of my fatty. Running Nate upfront still. So far so good, rolls much faster than a nate. Grip has been surprisingly good from what little i have seen. Of which the majority of the riding was on battle of the beach. i wouldn’t say its a light weight tyre mind. I have the folding 120tpi version and its not much lighter than a nate if i remember correctly. Installed tubeless straight away on my BR710’s. Tyre does seem slightly buckled out of the box despite the bead sitting correctly. Must say i have not noticed it riding though. I would also say the compound is pretty hard. I am hoping it will be an ideal tyre for spring conditions and liven the bike up a little.

I run a 26t Oval with 42t XT 11 speed on my Fatty. Works really well and means I can spin up anything. But I spin out on fire roads with the wind behind me and a slight decline. Its worth it though for long days in the saddle. Wouldn’t want to run anything smaller and i dont think anyone would need anything smaller. In hindsight i should of stayed with a standard double and 36t rear cassette. But I am still very happy with the gear selection. I have been thinking about gear set-up for my 29er xc bike. Would like to go 1×11 or 1×10. But worry that for long all day rides I will either spin out on longer link roads or not have the gearing for my pathetic tired legs. Conclusion was a standard double works so why change

I thought the top two were split, both same team one on a cross bike and one an an mtb? Certainly looked that way when they were overtaking me again drafting each other on the beach

As with any bike it’s tyre dependant I guess. I have however found my nates enjoy holding on to thicker clay like mud which can be a bit of a pain as you start to really feel the weight. But I’m sure this is remedy with different tyres.

I completely agree, I certainly wouldnt want to waste a day pedalling around the blue if there was a chance of going for an all day off-piste epic. However the final descent makes a nice end to the day and brigs you back to the car park beautifully.

I purchased a set of the new kevlar superstars pads with the heat fins on. Didnt fall to bits, but I was going through a set a week. Went back to Shimano standard (organic ?) pads lasted the rest of the winter.

Wilko, that’s exactly it buddy. We like starting at cannop, there is a great vibe and atmosphere a clean Tarmac car park which is great for getting changed in. Good coffee and food and a shop if needed, then ride off piste wherever we go from there finish on blue descent as its a nice way back down to the car park with tired legs.

We only tend to ride the red and blue if the weather has been too horrific to get off hard pack or we are doing winter night rides. But to be honest I have done the blue so much over the years it’s becoming a little bit like the morning commute for me now.

I always like finishing a FOD route on the blue descent if I can.
Why? It’s the most sanitised bit of the FoD! There’s so much more fun to be had finishing the ride on other trails…

Why not? Because we really enjoy it! It flows back to the car park and involves no real thinking for tired heads and legs. We are pretty good at the off piste stuff now, but there is so much up there I doubt we have even scratched the surface. Even so the blue descent is great fun in my opinion sanitised or not and I/we all love rolling down it to the car park before tea and cake! Not sure why you would have a problem with what I do on my rides to be honest?!?

So, i have added a GPX for those of you that want a run over to the Dowies via Loamilicious. It gets confusing a little around the Dowies as its pulled from strava so it probably has a couple of rides up the fireroad back to the beginning of the dowies.

Ride starts at cannop trail center and finishes there on the blue descent.

    Enjoy:

I am thinking the same, I have found a company that will service and repair for £55, which sounds brilliant although almost too good to be true. I have had loads of reverbs over the years and all have had problems. My old KS Lev was faultless it really was. Will report back when I receive post back from repairers unless anyone else can recommend somewhere else.

It came with the bike and as such not bought from LBS and will be out of warranty because of this. Are fishers not just going to want to replace with new? Have you had experience of them repairing them, if so what kind of bill did you have?

    Cheers

Stedlocks SRAM fit ones will not fit aeffect cranks or cinch system I’m afraid. I purchased an absolute black variant for my fatty 28t oval as its the only one I could find at the time. Bloody expensive at £65 I think it was. But it’s a great bit of kit I love it!

Tim, drop me an email which is in my profile will chuck it across to you it’s fairly easy to remember once you have done it a few times, unless you are me! I always like finishing a FOD route on the blue descent if I can.

You should head over to the dowies via lumilicious! I have a GPX track with a route that takes you to the dowies and on the way back you finish on the blue descent. Great little route there is loads of off piste stuff which blows the marked trails away. I should imagine it will be busy up there today as the forecast
    Looks great.

So I used one of the pump spray things as advised above, was OK but anything Flagg wasn’t shifting at all. I now have a mobi and have had for 6 months it works brilliantly. Nicely designed loads of pressure the only time it has been able to help us with frozen mud. Would recommend to anyone.

Northwind, maybe it’s just me then. But I have heard some of those comments and my wife heard the others. It doesn’t bother me, it’s just young followers of fashion being a little hypocritical. I ride to enjoy myself and chill out. I can’t be arsed to get in arguments over small Minded opinion. Although I did laugh at a couple of roll-up smoking doughnuts on 10 year old Orange Patriots try to be cocky and say in front of my wife “bet that’s slow up and downhill, looks well heavy”. The irony was not lost on me even if it was on them. I didn’t buy into the fat biking thing because it was “cool”
In fact I think it’s a big dorky. I bought one because the local fat bike riders have some awesome rides, I bought one because I just got it. A fatty will never be my only bike, some of the nice comments are cool and out weigh the negative ones. But I have heard directly some less tasteful comments

Cx bike is almost certainly the quickest way round. I purchased a 29er hardtail specifically for these type of events (I love them) after fitting some better tyres and wheels as well as setting up tubeless it feels like the perfect all day mile muncher. Would fancy doing it on a full suspension bike again to

I have heard comments from goggle wearing enduro Gnarists like “wtf it’s just a fad” or “it’s a skill compensator” The comments are not always positive or particularly nice. To be honest I don’t really understand the negative comments, after all my fatty is just a bike like theirs with bigger tyres….

It’s managed by dean trail volunteers, funded by donations and we have come off the back of a particularly wet winter. They do the best they can with the resources they have to be fair. I think they do a bloody great job and am ever thankful to them

I have watched a few you tube clips and decided I need a much bigger chainring else I’m going to spin the fatty out I would suggest! Also need to sort a faster rolling rear tyre!

I am on the look out for a second hand JJ 4.0 if any of you Dune riders fancies letting one go. I find double Nate too draggy personally, but don’t want to buy a brand new JJ in case i am wrong!

Not that I am condoning the use of a £13 set of Chinese bars (I wouldn’t use them) just wanted to pick up on the comments that carbon doesn’t bend, it snaps catostrophicly….that’s simply not true. Boat masts all bend, in fact they can have Bend characteristics made into them. Same way as carbon bars can be built with some flex. Much like with alloy, once you go past the point of no return they will snap! The issue with the Chinese bars as I see it is the uncertainty of the wall thickness, the quantity and quality of epoxy used, not to mention what quality of carbon…. Oh and potential voids.

for 3 months before it leaked and didn’t hold charge.

Well mines still going fine! But mine doesn’t run off a battery it’s 12v version. As for drying like I say I use my compressor to blow beads of water to help dry after I have rinsed. Like I say each to everyone’s own, hope it works for you.

NOt really sure what your question is. But guessing you are asking how much the standard wheels and forks weigh??? I guess that depends on what model 134 you have bought. I have a 134a, which is now like triggers broom. Replaced the Secktors for Pikes and the standard wheels for Hope Enduros. Along with upgrading the dropper to a Lev Integra, XT 11speed and carbon bars, carbon raield saddle and tubeless with better tyres my bike weighs in at just about 30lbs from its orignial chubby 33lbs. The weight saving isnt what improved the bike, more the fork and wheels.

Im not sure I “Get it” I use my Mobi wash before putting bike in car to get the worse of the crap off then when home wipe bike down with a damp micro fibre cloth and gt85 if needs be. Then I use my compressor with air blow attachment to carefully blow whats left of standing crap and water away from bearings. Being as careful as possible not to blow crap into them. Seems to work for me and damn site cheaper than £300. But each to everyones own I guess
