I had one as my previous company car a D4 R design. Great looking car and was pretty quick. I stupidly upgraded the wheels to 19″ versions. It was bloody uncomfortable and the wheels and tyres were such a low profile I smashed all the wheels to bits. It also made the car massively uncomfortable to drive. Other than that it was a great car, like others has said not the biggest for interior space. But a good size boot.

Mine failed on my last night for second time. Battery and light just stopped working! Last time the bolt holding the bar clamp on failed. They are ‘OK’ brightness wise, very much the same as the eBay specials.

I disagree Northwind, I am fed up with cables and bulky batteries. I broke my second head unit in a week last night. Which is now forcing me to explore new lights. I have a one23 unit mounted on the bars which isn’t superb light albeit the battery is heavy. I don’t like riding with a pack for my usual short 2 hour evening blasts, and a battery in a jersey just flaps around and is uncomfortable. I would much prefer an all in one unit. Nice and clean and easy.

Sprung serviced and upgraded my rct3 pike with the Adreani tuning kit last month! The fork is absolutely awesome now! Great guys! My monarch plus is now due a service so I will book it in for an avalanche upgrade whilst I’m at it.

Alex, I broke my helmet light on Monday evening in the forest. Wasn’t even that dark and with only my bar light I had a descent sized off, on a trail I ride weekly!!! Just lost my line completely. I would say a head torch is an absolute must, especially in the FOD where I ride.

    Hi Nick,
I ran my old OOF with 100mm blutos. No ill effects at all. It did change the bike and made it much better at descending, being hyper critical it did make the bike feel a bit clumsier and slightly numb (hardly a surprise). But as an all round bike in my opinion it was better. I cant remember the exact measurements, but im pretty sure it raised the front end fractionally.

Here is a pic of the Old girl. I have since changed to a Smokestone Henderson, which was designed around a 120mm fork. Its more trail orientated and feels very different to the OOF….But that wasnt your question

28t round 11-42t 650b 150mm full susser (would be oval but for stupid hope mount on their cranks)
26t oval 11-42t fat bike – great ratio for crawling up and over anything
    30t round 11-42 29er xc whippet

I’d say you don’t even need to spend £1,500. Those for whom it is actually a “sport” have my sympathy. If you can’t compete well with just fitness and skill and need to have the latest technology to do so then you are truly caught in an expensive race. For the rest of us there’s no need to be contemplating £5k bikes.

I did say under £1500. I say “sport” because I see it as a sport and its very rare that I race. I guess it depends on your definition or sport, pastime, hobby etc. I absolutely agree with your point about fitness and skill vs. new tech. A bike is only a small part of what makes someone “quick” in my experience. I guess we all have experiences of overtaking other riders on carbon weapons. As well as being overtaken on our super light XC whippets by middle age blokes on old orange patriots up our usual big climbs. I always use my firends lighter bike as an excuse as to why he is quicker than me. But in reality I no that if I droped even more $$$$ on a new bike he would still kick my arse. Sure the gap may be closer but he is a quicker rider than me.

Interesting. I dont see the sport contracting because of the £5k “super bikes” far from it. They are aspiration for many people and push technology forward. In fact if anything i think they are a good thing. Higher priced “Boutique” brands have helped the development of bikes brands like Bird, Canyon, YT etc. By creating a demand at a lower price point…. all of which I see more of than Santa Cruz, Yeti etc. So the rising cost of top end bikes seems to equal a gaping hole in the market for better value brands. At the end of the day we should be grateful that the sport is so attainable. You can buy a good new bike for under £1500 a descent helmet for £50 and be away. For me the growth and development in the sport will be more places to ride easily. I love my off piste stuff, but its a dark art to newbies. Trail centers offer people starting out a way of progression as they work through the trail “Colours” One thing I love about the sport is the development. Changes you can make at home to your bike to make it better for you. However one thing that drives me crackers is changing standards. I’m all for it with some fairly commonsense rationale. Just get a little deluded bu some of the BS. One nit of kit I hope moves forward soon is dropper posts…Fed up with them to be honest.

I’m with you weeksy, very few things better in life then working in the garage on my bike. Especially if the garage is tidy and the tools are to hand. I love it! It’s just a shame the weather is so shit here and all your hard work is undone 10 minutes into a trail.

My last spitty was anodised black and to be honest the finish wasn’t great, the anodising wears badly in places and was so easy to scratch. I much prefer standard coatings. Plus I think stealth look has been murdered lately, it’s just too common. It’s not just Bandhee who have been chucking out weird paint combos lately either. Not sure what’s going on? Maybe in my mid 30’s I’m just not down with the latest trends….

Well that looks marginally better than the brochure. I know it’s a little sad to be so picky over the colour selection. Especially given how well my old spitty rode. But they are gopping. Skyish blue with red??

Interested in the updated spitfire. Loved my old one, the colour options look shocking though…again

That new segment is an epic bike, I ride with a chap who has just upgraded his mk1 seggy to a mk2! Incredibly capable bike both up an downhill. Handles beautifully! I would buy one in a heart beat

$550 plus your spring ($130 if going for the lighter valt) so $680. Who knows how that price will work out over here.

YT Capra has to be the bike doesn’t it? Works Out to be about £2k delivered. Yep it has been cheaper in the past but that’s still exceptional value

Event organisers should be made to ensure that the route is cleared following the sportive. These event organisers should pass the cost on as part of the entry fee. Its disgusting that people think its OK to chuck a wrapper on the floor. So if its becoming a big problem then something needs to be done about it. Making everyone pay will be a sure fire way of ensuring its self policed.

this has been done before, the chap sells all of the On one warranty buy backs. You would (in my opinion for whatever thats worth) be mad to buy some of the crap he is selling

I have, was OK quite a heavy (think around 1300g) Rolled well. But in my opinion is not as good all round as a Jumbo Jim. My tyre came slightly misshaped as well I should of taken it back to the shop but never bothered and is still hung up in the garage. Managed to get it up tubeless easy enough as well if i remember.

Thanks that’s interesting. I wonder if sailing might be the culprit. I raced Lasers for a long time which had a very high mainsheet load when beating and you had to grip it tight, same with crewing asymmetric dinghies and keelboats. I wonder if the constant death gripping (not griping) of highly loaded ropes (cleats are for wimps was my Laser mantra) has done for me. Either that or its typing and writing at work.

I’m fairly convinced it’s not how hard I’m holding on but I’ll make a conscious effort on tonight’s ride.

Ho hum, I’ll try the squidgy grip option.

I’m pretty sure some of the issues i have are related to the sheet loading on dinghy’s. I currently race a Devoti Zero and this has similar (maybe a touch lighter) sheet loads to a Laser. Previously sailing 505’s, I14’s etc. so boats with very high sheet loads, kite hoists and sheet loading. I don’t use cleats, never have So on longer beats in boats like Lasers i wrap the sheet around my hand, much like you. If I am at a major regatta this can be for 6 hours a day for up to a week in length. It simply cannot be good. Its much worse in the cold, to the point this winter my hands just let go! I actually think its some kind of nerve issue coupled with muscle fatigue. I am pretty fit and have good upper body strength like you from 30 years of sailing. I have found that softer silicone grips help me and i am so conscious not to strangle the handlebars now.

Garage-Dweller. I have recently been suffering with similar issues. To the point my grip has failed, I am also a sailor and it caused me to let go of the main sheet and tiller halfway through a bear off at one of the big winter handicaps. I have always had a very strong grip but it seems to be weakening with age. I have a ganglion on my little finger joint which causes me pain. However I have noticed that I have been gripping the bars harder lately and riding ‘tighter’. I have changed my grips to a pair of Alpkit silicone grips and have Mage a conscious effort not to death grip which has improved things massively. When I went to see the doctor he was adamant that my issues were from over use (too much time on the bike) and recommended I take some time off the bike! Obvious he is wrong. I actually think I have a couple of issues including poor technique and getting older

See the thing for me is, I understood (was bought into) the whole wheel size changes. It just made sense, but boost doesn’t do it for me. Sure I ordered a boost bike (which I have just cancelled the order for) but the fact all my other kit which is barely a year old now won’t fit a new frame makes my ting kind boggle. I was all for a new frame this year and would of been all over the new five. But it will have to wait for me now. I am just not willing to chuck more cash at something else only for it to me made old Skool in 10 months. I’m all for tangible progress, but boost to me is a step too far. Understand the science behind it though…also understand the need for new standards to help push sales

Pinch his car keys. Then empty all the hole punchers into an envelope. Head to his car and turn ignition on. Then direct all the fans to the face turn on to full power then turn ignition off. Once you have done this poor all of the hole punch pieces down the main vent. Make sure everyone heads out to wave him goodbye. Oh and laugh at the absolute explosion as he turns the ignition on

So, i stumbled across an ex-demo four on Oranges website, with a few upgrades. A rush of blood to the head has seen me full of buyers remorse. Happy with the bike, just thinking my wife is going to rip my head off my shoulders! anyone want to buy my Five! ha

Just about trade price? Really? Don’t they RRp at £120? Not sure hope allow their dealers that much margin do they? Hope they are legit and not at someone else’s misfortune. I liked my original f30’s once I had chucked the old solid pins for some hollow ones

I would be genuinely mortified if I had bought something that turns out to be stolen. I Hope (sorry) these don’t turn out to be. I am after a set of F20’s in black, but will pay the extra to purchase from my LBS I think

I can download some GPX files from recent rides off Strava if you like, or happy for people to add me so they can do it themselves. I plan to ride the old Enduro route tonight with an alternative finish which makes an excellent 15k loop (about an hours and a bit riding) Email is in profile should you want any.

My brand new Reverb stealth B1, the supposed model with new better internals has started to sag after only 4 rides, need to take it back in for warranty. I have a much older reverb that does exactly the same thing. Fed up with them to be fair. I spent more on the newer model as it was touted as being more reliable.

Stay away from the marked trails if you want a great ride. Gpx files can be downloaded to get you to some descent stuff. Could probably share some if needs be. We park at pedal a bike away (cannop) then ride the start of the old enduro route then head over to dowies and the across to shutcastle via loamalicious riding back via Worcester lodge and ending on the one of the enduro stages. Works out to be about 25-30k and is a fantastic mix of trails.

That would do my head in! All the people shouting at you to get a move on when there is a blatant jam, then people stopping at obstacles when there is no bottle neck. Great video and well done on completing but I’m not sure it’s for me now!

Yeah i get that wl, just makes it bloody expensive all of a sudden when you need to replace wheels and all the other gubbings. I love Orange. But I cant justify the cost to change with the other bits. Its a shame, looks like the perfect bike for me and UK riding.

    russyh

I have only seen 1 out on the trails (BPW) although i know of 2 people that have recently bought them and seem to like them. I was all set to push the button and buy one until i found I couldn’t swap my kit over. Transition scout ticks my boxes now thanks to standard rear end.

I have yet to see the Mk2 segment out and about, my riding buddy was looking at upgrading his Mk1 seggy, until he found out he needed new wheels etc.

I do wonder if Orange have gone a step too far with making all of the new bikes Boost, but thas a thought based on no actual fact.
