I bought a set of this chap on pinkbike, brand new in DT boxes with the build certificates, hub adapters etc. I believe they are team issue. Came really quick and he was great to deal with. Been super chuffed with the wheels so far, bit noisy as the spokes bedded down for the first ride but so far have survived be hamfisted and heavy ass riding for a month. Including 2 trips to BPW

I get a print subscription purchased for me each year by my inlaws. It’s by far and away the best present I get each birthday! I would be devastated if it was an online version and likely wouldn’t bother reading it. I have other free online magazines sent to me each month and rarely open them to be honest. I would happily pay significantly more for a well produced glossy magazine then my current subscription (I know my inlaws currently buy it but if they didn’t I would)

I enjoy both Llandegla and the Marin trail, both very different in terms of their offering. However if I only had a few hours in the afternoon I would ride degla. Like I say the Marin trail is a nice ride, but I found the constant fireroad bloody boring. I love a good technical climb and found it was lacking as a trail in that department….that being said the views and scenery are spectacular.

I run 28t front rings with 11 speed 42t cassettes. I find it a great setup. I can spin up virtually anything now, much rather cycle up a climb then push. I don’t find I spin out significantly unless it’s a long flat/descending fire road. To be honest I am not bothered in that situation.

I spent a fair amount of time at BPW lately. To be honest the best time i have had there was this Sunday just gone. Thats because we didn’t book an uplift we decided to do a day of pedaling up. It was a fantastic day, so much more enjoyable then a day of sitting in a transit van. It also makes the downhill runs so much more worthwhile. I had an off down my first run of the day which set the tone. But a great day none the less. The new insufficient funds drops very nearly caught me out as i just didn’t see them

Not sure it’s a dedicated tool, I already had a crank extraction tool one of each size that had been redundant for years. Not had any issue removing myself. Just ordered some cinch sixc’s for my skinny as well now. Much better than the joke of a hope crankset. But that’s a whole new thread I guess

I purchased a new 28t Cinch chainring from Slam69 for £34. Its a blackspire one but £15 cheaper than the standard Raceface version. I have an absolute black oval one on my fatty which is beautiful but i seem to remember being very expensive.

Have to say the Aeffect cranks are great value for money, I find the cinch system pretty good. I like running smaller chainrings and the small oval system works brilliantly on a fat bike. You can climb just about anything! Only issue is running out of gears on crappy fire road descents. But who cares about that.

As above it’s fine, the longer cage is for double setups. I have been running my 5 with medium cage 1-speed xt for ages now with no issue. When setting up I just dump the air out of the shock to allow for chain growth

Awaiting the postie anxiously now, had an expensive week after deciding my bike isn’t going to sell…so I may as well upgrade it! New brakes fitted (purchased from lbs) awaiting sixc cranks and DT Swiss xm1501’s! Need to sell some stuff fast as wife will blow her lid when she checks the bank

What are these problems you are talking about? Short of the creaky csu which was warrantied? What issues have there been I have had Pike forks from just about uk market intro in 26″ format initially when they blew everything else away through to my current set. Which are great forks just think Fox has caught up and overtaken. The Andreani upgrade has made a massive improvement to the small bump compliance on mine something I have always struggled with in the pike.

But I would genuinely love to know what all these ‘issues’ are?

Cheers for the help guys, looks like I have found the wheels for me. Will order over the next few days I suspect.

I wouldn’t touch a pair of crossmax or in fact any of the factory built magic wheels anymore I’m afraid. The Crossmax Enduro was a very expensive mistake for me. Frankly it is not fit for purpose in my opinion. So regardless of how good anything new is crime them…I’m out I’m afaaid

My pikes are 2015, been faultless and now just been Andreani upgraded by Sprung suspension. In fact in my group we have them ranging from about 2015- new over the last week

Interestingly most of my riding group run pike forks. Not one pair has had to go back under warranty! They are a great set of forks in terms of value for money. I had sworn never to touch Fox kit again after the shocking set of 36’s egos that came on one of my bikes. But the new kit looks and feels sublime. If I were in the market for some forks again now I would be hard pressed to look past Fox (apart from maybe the price )

As for wheelset I guess it depends on budget. I have a pair of Hope pro2 evo hubsvlaved on Easton arc 2£’s coming availe soon if any interest?

Do the x fusion droppers not have a cable barrel adjusted for tension by the remote a bit like the Ks eten? Mine always dropped until I realised that I had too much cable tension. Try removing the carvel completely then see if it drops when you sit on it. If it doesn’t then it’s a cable tension issue.

Collecting new road bike in a bit, so pretty happy. Although its dampened a bit as my usual monday night ride has been binned off. So 6/10.

To be honest it’s been so dry up there lately the rock razor may be ok. But personally I would go for a little more bite from braking if it really does hammer down.

Looking at some of the stages I ride parts of them or near them regularly it’s been raining this evening and is set to tonight I think. I pretty much run a Mary on the front all year round now, currently on a purgatory rear and that’s pretty sweet around the FOD and some of those trails

Run mine with 150mm pikes, not sure I would see any benefit of 160mm. Orange state 150 max for the mk2 I believe. I already find the bike can wander a little on long climbs with 150. I ran 160 on my old 26″ five and felt it too much.

Based in Gloucestershire. However Eulach is right they have now taken down. I was offered the newer model at another £500, but its boost spacing and I dont want to buy new wheels etc. or cobble together the spacing. Plus the extra dosh makes upgrading little less attractive.

Thats what i thought. The only niggle is the numbers. Otherwise i would of already hit the buy button. Chances of me finding one to swing my leg over now are slim! Do i just go for it?

I have a 125mm dropper at the moment, even if i switch to a 100mm the large would really be touch and go for me. Medium looks the right size, but its very short in terms of reach. I am not sure actually if that is such a bad thing. I cannot remember ever having an issue with “Old” geo bikes.

Just worried that i would be making significant backwards steps I guess as i would need to run a loger stem

I have one fitted to my fat bike, it’s been so maintance free I have not given it a thought. Few months in now and it’s risen through some proper shite and washed off with a hose. Still grumble free. I was sceptical at first but wouldn’t hesitate to have another fitted on another bike now. Not Sure which model D’moor headset it is mind

I know the feeling, I am currently living in shit street. i sold my roadbike on ebay and whilst i agreed a collection with the guy i purchased my next bike. Wife was ok with that, but in true ebay style the bloke has disappeared. Wife has hit the roof (its my fault obviously) So if anyone wants a 52cm Cannondale Supersix please get in touch!!!!!! Good news is my new bike rides like a dream

I use these for trail riding:
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/troy-lee-designs-speed-knee-sleeve/rp-prod142805?gs=1&gclid=CLv40f3-nc8CFYidGwodiDMLVw&gclsrc=aw.ds

They are soft, grip nicely and have just the right amount of padding. I have some slightly harder shelled versions for uplift days. But for general riding i find them absolutely perfect.

Never heard of it I thought you meant that you were squirting on lube from an aerosol, ironically squirt lube doesn’t seem to sell any lube like this. Anyway, all dry lubes have a carrier that evaporates away (apart from the type that is heated up and then sets by cooling) and they generally don’t last too long in wet conditions.

No they don’t that’s why ii clean the drive chain and re-lube every ride. With squirt you apply it twice once then leave to dry then another coating. Its great stuff in my opinion. But ranted I believe i’m going through chains too quickly so maybe its not so good? used it for a long time now and like i say only had problems since 11 speed switch.

Why have you wasted money on two new chains? Why not just keep running your existing chains until there is an actual problem rather than a perceived one?

1000 miles each on two bikes with 11 speed chains. No issues whatsoever, no idea how stretched they are.

The cassettes seem a bigger problem.

Because by the time its completely goosed the cassette will be toast as well which will start becoming very expensive! Its fairly common knowledge i believe that you should change your chain at about 0.75 stretch/wear whatever you want to call it. A chain at £20 is cheaper than a chain, chain ring and cassette!

Agree that some chain checkers are rubbish, I have two to double check. Both measure the same as does the old steel ruler I’m afraid

Twisty is squirt a ptfe lube? I was on the understanding it was a dry wax based lube

    http://www.squirtlube.com

It’s great stuff, mainly because it’s easy to keep the drive chain clean I also find it stops crap sticking to it better than some other wet or even dry lubes.

Yes of course it does, I ride mostly the FOD so appreciate the wear that puts in a bikes components. Both bikes have had the same chain (manufacturer and series) last under 500 miles. I clean my group set after every ride and use squirt lube. I am definitely seeing chains wear quicker with 1 x 11 then 1 X 10. But I admit maybe it’s the chains I’m using, perhaps SRAM chains are more cheese like. I always used KMC on 10 speed. I will run both and see how I get on.

    russyh

Yeah nice one smart arse! I always clean my drive chain post ride!

    russyh

So I have ordered a KMC chain as a replacement and will run another SRAM on the other bike and log mileage to see which lasts longest in a crude non scientific way. I always run a clean drive chain and use squirt rather than sticky lube. Maybe that’s part of the problem?

Not first hand experiences, but I ride occasionally with the importer. The latest iteration of the nextie carbon rim is lovely, the spokes are not terminated in the centre of the rim(sorry not aware of what they officially call that type of spoke position). I have ridden with some of the boys on these rims and they rave about them. That’s if you are talking about fat bike rims, I have not seen any of their standard rims anywhere out on a trail. The only thing that puts me off them is the gopping decals. However I am told they do stealth rims also

As above, it’s common practice for dealers to have unit stocking loans on vehicles. If you look at the term on your vehicle data check it will be for a very short period. There is nothing to worry about, the financial market is there so if the garage go belly up the finance house have title over the vehicle. It’s automically cleared usually when you pay for the vehicle through a feed on their DMS system.

In terms of haggling, nothing much has changed. Ignore the bullshit you hear on adverts from we buy any car. There is no benefit to a cash deal. Just work out what you are comfortable paying and try and work out a deal.
