You can’t ride clipless on a five due to the linkage curve and swing ratio of the single pivot. Every other bike is fine just not the Five. I would buy a new bike 😀

Sorry to rekindle this thread. I am about to hit buy, but am concerned the medium will be too short. Does anyone have a medium around Gloucester I can chuck a leg over. Failing that I’m going to wait until the demo day at FOD

Got to say i found the Swinley trails pretty boring/poor when i visited the first time a few months back. They had done a great job of making the most out of the complete lack of elevation. But found it surprisingly laborious as it was a constant pedal fest. I wouldn’t go again in a hurry, but then it is 2hrs away from me. That said you may love it Renton, its just not for me.

They really are just a cut out section of the swing arm pivot point. To be honest you could easily fashion something with a dremel and a tape measure. Which by the way would of been about how the factory made it any judging by the conversations I have had with them this week!

Gutted I can’t make it due to family christening! Home ground as well!

Car park gets locked at 630 currently. They WILL lock you in, but you can park outside the barrier. FOD is great at night. Worth going up on a Thursday as they open later and think there is organised group rides. Old Enduro trail is great at night in my opinion

Well my LBS has just called to say my 4th B1 has arrived. They had promised a refund but SRAM decided to send another.

I think I am going to list my Five frame for sale first now, if the outlet bikes go then they go. Will keep my wife happy which is important. For me though the one thing I don’t like is they are dripping with SRAM and seem to have a funny short reach

I want to try 29er and carbon! Simple as that for me. I talked myself out of it and bought another new five frame end of last year and have regretted not having the balls to challenge my norm

Maybe selling my 2017 Five frame in medium…norlando grey shortly. Not a stealth ad at all…just a latent plug

Demo days at Swinley, Sherwood Pines and FOD in the next few weeks

Yeah, I have pencilled myself in for the FOD demo day as its my local. But was hoping to sit on a medium prior to this in all honesty. Probably best to wait, but if i could swing a leg over for sizing prior to that it would help make my next decision a little less fuzzy

They have some outlet offers so the carbon 1 is £2500 they say reduced from £3k but in reality it was £2800.

I am 5’9. But little legs! That’s a good write up and largely what I wanted to hear.

Thanks Chaps, I have ordered a couple of clearance pairs from CRC. Troy lee skylines and Royal Impacts. That should do for my road trip. I will buy some Zeniths next time I see a pair in a bike shop. I love all my other madison stuff, so cant believe they will be anything other than great.

I like the Zeniths, but doesn’t look like immediately available. Evans have ‘remote warehouse stock’ 5-7 days.

The Fox seems to be so well ventilated, I don’t see why you wouldn’t ride in one for anything but gravel riding.

I have tried one and I felt it was still pretty restrictive in terms of air flow and “catching breath” I only wear a full face on uplift days. I really struggle to catch a satisfying breath with any kind of restricted airflow and find them quite claustrophobic. The new fox looks great in the flesh, but for the money its not significantly different from other options.

So as you start Y2k before you cross the fire road there is a trail to the left that is elephant man I believe Y2k rubs tot he right of it. To be honest other than the work at the start of Y2k I wasn’t aware they were doing much to it. In fact I hope they haven’t as it was a great trail

I got to say it was good fun picking off the cx bikes on the more rugged descents. Especially after getting hammered by them on the road sections

I had a great day, conditions were prime. Cramped massively in both legs about 5k from the end annoyingly. But cracking day none the less. Got some nukelear sheep shit stuck to my frame I cannot shift.

We did the new updated version of elephant man last week. Which had a nice new rock garden, drops and some more features. Not ridden Y2k for a month so may pay it a visit tomorrow.

Jeez that sounds pretty expensive now. Perhaps them developing a new full suspension frame at the moment is not such a great idea if margin is under pressure from exchange rate fluctuations.

Looking forward to it! Looks set to be hot, so make sure you pack the water!

Renton, no one deserves to feel bad away from a forum. I am genuinely sorry you may have lost £25 over a freehub issue. Whilst I admit I often giggled at the bike “swap” piss taking and calling Renton to the forum. I lost a little respect over the buying a frame from Pop and then selling so quickly on for a profit. Whilst i’m sure that incident is not completely clear cut (please don’t start PM me) I don’t think you shrouded your self in glory. Starting to PM people on here directly was also a massive own goal fella. That said I would be disappointed if you left the forum as your threads are normally good sport.

…oh dear….Who allowed the PM function I much prefer the open forum telling off. Don’t mention the previous buy/sell debacle and or any profits made.

Seriously Renton you won with one purchase, lost with another. You played the used market and as a result these things do happen. It’s £25, the lad has said he will sort it. In the mean time buy a freehub and get the bike ready for you kids birthday

I’m with Nick above, single storey…going to suggest it doesn’t need planning under permitted development. My old man is currently undergoing an extension and does not need planning.

My pleasure. Got to say it was the first time i had hit that trail, Y2k next to it is one of my favourites.

Yeah cheers for the porno mag style wrapper. My wife called me up and gave me a bolloxing saying either I had order something else bike related or it was some kind of catalogue which meant I intended to buy more stuff and then gave me a lecture…again! All a bit harsh! She is going to be even more pissed off when the suspension forks turn up later in the week.

That’s no problem, our loop from the cycle centre to dowies and shutcastle has a number of other little trails. So gives a great ride out.

Russyh, do you mind if I follow you too? If not, how do I find you?

You are more than welcome to. Emails in my profile just search me via that.

Maybe we could arrange a STW group ride. I would always recommend people utilise the services of some of the local guided rides. As I know some great bits but really only scratching the surface tonne honest! But I’m happy to lead a group of people. I have a great little route near the centre which encorporates some of the old enduro trail, red and a great alternative descent back to the trail centre. It’s about 11 miles and we quite often ride it in the evenings. Can get a bit sloppy in the winter months but as it drys out it’s a ripper.

Si, I live inTewkesbury so happy to ride with you. Nothing local to the town but we could head over the FOD and do some off piste stuff

No problems at all, albeit I am not likely to get over that way now for a few weeks. Off doing HONC next weekend then at Glentress for the Easter bank holiday with the boys. Maybe able to do an evening ride if you are up for it one day?

Just done around 16 miles at FOD off piste starting from PABA. Over to dowies and shutcastle total ride time was 3 hours including messing around with technicals, breathers and jelly baby stops. In fact we quite often start early and get home for lunch. Always happy for people to join us if they want to learn some of the routes. But like others have said I’m glad that folk CBA to explore outside of the centre as it is quiter else where that way
