190×51 is spot on, we it was on my 2016 and then my newer 2017 in fact it was on my 11 and 12….. Been the same with Fives forever hasnt it…?
russyhFree MemberIts the sound every bike makes when you fit coloured pedals to it.
russyhFree MemberSo I have been lookign at a pair of i29 KOM rims as hey come in at a claimed weight of 499g each, which seems pretty light for a wide 29 rim. However im concerned that they may be made of cheese? Any experience of them at all? WTB class them as “Trail/AM/Enduro” for whatever thats worth…..
russyhFree MemberThe era of skimming 3% or so of a sale price to post a few pictures on rightmove and open the door for a few punters is over.
This
russyhFree MemberTheey cannot insist on using their conveyancers. they might try but IIRC it has no legal basis
Jeez didn’t you read some of the other posts?? Not that i’m aware of the legality (why are they not allowed to make utilisation of their solicitors a term) however as stated earlier, there are (supposedly) a number of ongoing legal challenges around some of the practices…. scare stories meh maybe, but understandable if some of the contracts are questionable. But as others have said not just online agents, the traditional agents have had form for this.
russyhFree MemberNewrob, I guess they came across ascretins and condescending to you as they probably worked you out quickly…especially as you spoke to them as you post on here?? Not worthy of your worldly knowledge???
Is my wife biased…well yes she is going to be. But likely the most balanced agent you are likely to meet. Furthermore she doesn’t work on ‘commision’ So it’s little fuss to her, hell she doesn’t even need the job.
The fact is the market is in considerable transition! Online agents absolutely have their place for people ‘super informed’ self proclaimed experts like yourself… However I would suggest (based on actual industry experience from my wife) and my own experience in a similarly developing industry, that as a business (and industry) you diversify or die, traditional estate agents are proactively doing this (not all granted but those with foresight) Are they marketing it…hell no! not when currently less than 4% of house sale transactions are managed by an online agent. But they absolutely will if you find a good one, working of like for like services and comparisons. That said their costs are much higher so will also be slightly more expensive.
Buyers also prefer traditional agents with conversion rates for online agents say around 57% vs 84%. Suggests to me the market isn’t quite there yet and there will be further changes and development.
But you can shout the virtues and slam every agent in the country based on a fairly localised opinion, but you will find agents offering a more competitive commision with a leaner offering in terms of service and there will always be a market for those that want to deal with someone face to face. Hell its the reason people pay more and still buy used cars from a dealership over a supermarket or lease deal from Ling….
russyhFree MemberForcing you to use their conveyancer is wrong and possibly illegal
That’s as maybe, but it’s what happens and there are ongoing court cases. According to my wife (who is fairly well respected in the field) with purple bricks you sign a credit agreement so you have to pay them if you sell or not. I can’t comment on other online agents, but like I say go to a local agent talk through what you want and make them an offer over the commission. Sensible ones are already adapting their business and pricing to compete.
russyhFree MemberSlam69 have a medium full bike in the showroom and I have to say it’s stunning! Tempted with a frame only build after Christmas
russyhFree MemberMy wife is an estate agent and has said there are a growing number of customers who are trapped into contracts with online agents where they have to pay even if they sell there house via another agent. Further more my friends used purple bricks and were forced to use their conveyancing solicitors which were well over market price. Not to mention having to manage the sale process and chasing. Many high street agents will do flat fees, in fact my wife will match purple bricks on a like for like basis. So do your own viewings she will charge the same without the same contractual obligations.
russyhFree MemberFound the scales 16kg/ 35.2lbs !
Sweet Jesus really? Shes got some rump in the trunk then!
russyhFree MemberAs you’ve seemingly discovered, I dunno if you’re gonna save any weight with the criteria specified.
New wheels might be more responsive though, not to mention tougher.
I was gonna suggest custom built xm481 wheels, fwiw.
Yeah, its what I had concluded prior to the thread. So not surprised (hoping for some kind of Eureka moment however) I could save significant weight with a set of factory built American Classic Wide Lightning, but would like to get away from factory build wheels and their foibles. First world problems as always isnt it…. XM481’s on Pro4’s looking likely at the minute…
russyhFree MemberI have had problems with cheap carbon rims before to be honest. Looking at their build weights its £780 for CX ray spokes 1840g or £679 at 1925g Which is petty damn hefty. Sure stiffer but I am sceptical from experience of carbon rims and without any particular weight saving Im not sure i see the value. The extra stiffness would be very welcome mind.
russyhFree MemberThanks Hatter, so actually getting XM481’s build on to Hope Pro4’s with CX Ray spokes and Brass nipples, works out heavier than my standard wheelset.
russyhFree MemberAs above really, what are the advantages of the Stans wheelset over the DT Swiss? dont JRA use their own hubs? are they better than my current Spline 2 hubs?
Stans seems to be the go to answer, but im just not sure as they are neither lighter or particularly wider? Is it just a fashion thing, but to me the massive logos also look gopping. I have Crests on my XC bike and they are great (destickered) but are flexy and no good for my trail bike.
russyhFree MemberDont see any real advantage with Stans over the M1700’s unless im missing something, maybe a slightly wider rim in the Arch, heavier with the flow and Crest is a bit XC no?
russyhFree MemberOn second set of Sixc. In my riding group we currently have 3 set sbroken next and 2 broken Sixc
I would buy again!
russyhFree MemberI have used them for servicing and tuning in the past. Was absolutely spot on. The tuning work he carried out on my X-fusion slants anfew years back turned them from a good fork to a great fork. Would absolutely use again however I have sprung on my doorstep now
russyhFree MemberHad the same issue last week with them over a tyre! They are a complete croc to deal with of late. Mate had issue as well…shame
russyhFree MemberI like them too and their service is awesome. Had a problem with a set of pedals sent me out a new set before my warranty ones were back with them to make sure I could keep riding!
russyhFree MemberYeah my pf41 30mm Bb came with just the bearings, a spacer and two washers so it literally is the bearing face then crank.
Fitted beautifully though so I’m happy enough
russyhFree Member
140mm travel 29er, absolute beast with the coil on I love mine. Jeffsy does suit it mind.
russyhFree MemberSo my new hope pf41 Bb has turned up, but it just looks like two bearings with no outter ‘sheild’ Or cover?? Is that correct? If so how are people’s bearings lasting? Can imagine they are going to get goosed fairly quickly? Or am I wrong?
russyhFree MemberI run a 29er hardtail over the winter unless it’s a big day trail centre sesh. I am really struggling to get into the hardtail this year, I am just not enjoying it! Even with 140mm forks it’s still not scratching the itch. I have bee on the look out for a cheap full sus 29er Frame. Can’t find anything that ticks the box currently. So will stick with the zero hassle hardtail
russyhFree MemberI assume they’d just end up at somewhere like BCA along with all the other ex-PCP and fleet cars?
Risk is you get no chance to test drive it, and there’s usually no service history because they bin everything apart from the V5. But some places give you a week after the auction to return it if it’s got something majorly wrong that wasn’t apparent at the auction.
You can get a good deal there, you’re effectively cutting out the middle man (second hand car dealer) in the supply chain, but you’re taking on all their risk (and getting it serviced, and polishing out any marks, and generally getting all that stuff done) if you want to sell it for a profit.
They dont bin everything but the V5 at all….
So as someone who knows this side of the business intamently,I can give some advice. First off, I’m not sure you are going to see much or a “bargain” with a repossessed car. They fetch market value, dependant on condition and history. Nearly all repossessions will be auction sold as the lender has to prove fair market value, should the recovered funds not cover the settlement and they have to chase for the remainder through court.
As said by others above. Main dealers will purchase repo’s and sell on, providing they meet their franchise criteria and agreements on age and mileage.
If as the OP states, you are lookign for a £2500 repo, well its goign to be a fairly low end car. Many finance companies want the car to be no older than 10 years of age at the end of the agreement, so by that very nature cars will be usually (not always) under this. As such i would very much doubt you will stumble across many at the £2500 price point, even wholesale. If its nice enough for you to wan to buy it at that price. Its likely to fetch very, very strong money…
As a private individual just be aware of the auction house indemnity charges should you fancy buying a car. They are not insignificant.
russyhFree MemberHi Dave,
I am interested in the Trailscorcher 3, but cant see any videos or images of the beam patern and how “bright” it is in full beam mode?I am desperately trying to navigate the mine field of lights and Lumen braggging nonsense i see elsewhere on the internet. It seems buying a light is worse then buying tyres for confusion.
russyhFree MemberPolaris, whenever they have an offer on. usually about £11 for a pair of their Gel shorts. Perfect for under a pair of baggies and good for a descent amount of time in the saddle.
russyhFree MemberDone it 3 times now, last 2 on my own as mates couldn’t get on the main race. Was fine on my own plenty of friendly people to chat to on the way round. Mates were back at the campsite for evening beers tho
Im not so worried about doing it on my tod to be fair. im sure i will bump into people i know or make some new acquaintances. Its more the evening thing to be honest. My mates just were not that fussed by the whole thing…I loved it. So they are not bothered on going through the whole entry, wait 10 months thing all over again. I will try and convince some others to come and give it a go.
russyhFree MemberNone of my mates whom entered last year fancy it next year!! Strange..I’m contemplating doing it on my own….
russyhFree MemberI have had a few over the years….But never again now im afraid.
russyhFree MemberGod forbid anyone owning a T5/6, a BMW/Audi riding a bike!!…terrible they must be all the gear no idea kind of arsehole…I do love some of these judgemental threads. I’m not sure it matters what people ride or drive? As long as they are not harming others and enjoying themselves…I certainly can’t understand the logic of starting a thread to poke fun at them. Way I look at it if you can afford a transporter to lump your bike around in then you have the last laugh!
russyhFree MemberOther side of the country to you in Gloucestershire, but I’m always happy to ride with someone new.
russyhFree MemberMy view is, surely its a god thing the parents are doing something with their kids. Sure some questionable parenting going on, but better that then letting them sit to rot on their xbox in a bedroom.
For me, i dont push my kids. I get frustrated with my little boy (7 year old) at Rugby, football etc. because he just doesn’t listen. I never bollox him mind. If he decides one day he doesn’t want to do it, then thats fine. My daughter was the same. I spent a fortune on a boat, all the kit and we sailed together for a few a while (she is now 12) I asked her if she enjoyed it and she said she enjoyed the 1-2-1 time, but not the sport. So we stopped. I have a pimped up Carrera Luna in the garage, included Fox forks, super light bits, wheels and all. She never rides. But she is happy and i will support her with anything she decides to do. Not sure Im doing it the right way, but to me all i want is them to be happy. If that meant me shipping them around the country at weekends then that is what i would do…Luckily they dont!
russyhFree MemberSomewhat annoyed I have been called to Munich with Work next Sunday, so now won’t be able to race…
russyhFree MemberI ran one and no matter what I did to bolt tension the thing fell off. I eventually lost the bottle somewhere around the Forest of Dean, which short term was a pain as I was mid ride with no water but long term a blessing as it meant I could go back to a normal cage
russyhFree MemberI’m racing if, Fod local but first time I have ever raced there! Always avoided it to be honest…no excuses and all that
russyhFree MemberIt’s been highly documented on every single corner of the interweb, so I’m surprised you haven’t worked out yet, that you size up with YT
I think he already is looking at a Medium being 5’6.
russyhFree MemberI work in this industry, the car should be inspected by a BVRLA trained inspector to their agreed principles. Any damage recharge rates are agreed by your lease company and certainly our inspectors are not bonus or paid depending on what they find… depends what company is collecting the car I terms of what you get but we provide a printed copy of your appraisal and unless your car is filthy (which they will detail on inspection) then you should only be charged what you agree at the roadside. A little tip, making the car dirty or difficult to inspect will result in the inspector noting this on the appraisal and the car being valeted and inspected in controlled conditions at a defleet centre. Which is likely to flag more damage. So make sure it’s at least reasonably clean. Our company do not let our drivers take your car home for the evening as above!!! They have to drive straight to destination or to a hub, which will limit risk.
There is nothing to worry about, certainly our inspectors are instute of customer service accredited and have strict guidelines to follow.
russyhFree MemberWe have been looking at rescue dogs today as a replacement for the massive hole left in our life after we lost our boxer earlier this year. Love the idea of a rescue dog this time, but each time we have been to the local shelter we miss out and I can’t cope with the tears from the kids as we arrive to see a dog and find it’s been ‘reserved’. Any recommendations of rescue centres around the Gloucestershire area? We got a load of love to give but want the right dog and the whole process of adoption to be pleasurable if possible
