Rusty, I’ll take some more for you over the weekend.  I have just ordered the sport tuned motor for mine.  Shocks will be my next upgrade then I will look at some home made carbon bracing.  Like I say it’s a really fun project my son and I love working on it together.  He is really excited by the new motor.  It’s such a shit car by modern standards but such a laugh down the park and ticks a massive nostalgia box for me!

Got a link to the bar mount neilsonwheels? I have been looking but not settled on one I think would work well yet

Everything above is misleading and wrong.

Um, what’s misleading about it P-Jay?  The flat rate of interest used is a much easier way to calculate the amount of interest paid per year over the agreement.  Nothing to do with regulation under the CCA!  Which by the way I didn’t mention!  The flat rate is certainly not anything you want it to be!  You will not be able to accurately calculate the interest on a HP agreement easily via an APR, because of the fees you mentioned and how the interest is loaded onto the agreement.

Personally I would not use dealer finance on a £4K car.  There are much cheaper options.

also to point out the depreciation ‘curve’ as you put is still very relavant on a £4K car, especially when you consider the dealers margain.  Which will be a significant part of the £4K price…ultimately this will be lost as soon as you role off his forecourt.  As such this is more relevant on a cheaper car and has a much bigger effect early on in ownership.

Ah Geex, I understand you now.  Apologies.  To be honest, there is no need to count.  When it flashes strobe style I know next click is full beam.  Still shit but hardly a deal breaker.

Mine is 7 clicks from full beam to full beam I just counted…I’ll get molgrips to save you a chair Geex 😉

i actually made the remote fit fit snug by adjusting the strap and will modify it further to improve.  It’s a ‘light touch’ switch and I rather it have play so it doesn’t snap in the inevitable off… as for the light mount.  I had it done up tight yep with the additional rubber support boot.  Found it to slightly ‘nod’ over rougher terrain, it needs a more secure fixing for sure…for me anyway I guess it’s the challenge with all in one units.

im very impressed through, it’s a good light for the money the beam pattern, whiteness of light all spot on.  You would be forgiven for thinking it a light 3 or 4 times it’s price

So so thought I would give a bit of an update now I have ridden with my light in anger! I’m impressed, battery life is outstanding and cycling through full and dipped beam gave me 3hrs with half charge left at the end of the ride.  I use the light with an exposure diablo on my helmet for reference…

The remote is great, albeit is a loose fit so needs some modification and the rubber attachment strap for the main light is not great.  I will look at modifying a GoPro mount.  Really impressed that the unit game with a Garmin put front mount, be useful for the road bike.  Look a bit shit on my ‘Nduro sled!

My main criticism is all the shitty functions! You have to cycle through.  It’s bloody annoying, basically from dipped beam to full power requires about 30,000 clicks of the remote….I soon figured when it gets to strobe function the next click is full.  But it’s so annoying.  Overall happy with the purchase, couple with the Diablo it’s a pretty descent light set for night forest riding

So to correct a few things here.  The used car market is certainly not on its arse! Anything but in fact!  New cars are struggling at the moment, mainly thanks to lack of supply and constipated pre-ref stock (WLTP -tax changes)

in terms of HP, ask the dealer what the flat rate they are working to is.  This is the % rate you pay back per year over he agreement…as an example £1000 over a 2 year period is £1200 total so £200 interest. APR rates are skewed due to how the interest is calculated on HP.  I will say a bank loan may be cheaper but you don’t have the same level of protection etc as you do with HP, swings and roundabouts really. Easy to compare payments over the term to give total paid vs a proper bank loan quote

So One Up 150mm ordered.  170 was out of stock and I think would’ve been pushing my luck.  Thanks for all the help guys.

As far as I’m concerned it’s dead to me.  If anyone wants it to repair I would happily be relieved of it for a small sum.  Alternatively it will sit in the garage until such time as I find another borked reverb with a    Clean stanchion and canabolise

    russyh

Is there really 20mm difference between the reverb and one up?  I will have to do some research I think

Sounds like the OneUp is what I need then. I’m riding a trek 19.5” frame with an equally stumpy 29” inside leg measurement. A 150 reverb is slammed so I guess a 150 OneUp is probably the safest shout

the post was asking for what people’s current post du jour is.  My reverb has been faultless for 18months!  Absolutely spot on in fact, no need for a bleed.  It’s overdue a service (my fault) and afte 1 ride the stanchion is now completely scrap

    <span style=”-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”></span>

like I said I have been unlucky with earlier reverbs, but learnt not to pick the bike up whilst the post was dropped (that’s the trick) regardless on the autopsy of my current post, the fact is it’s done well and if it have of been serviced  sure it would have continued…but who knows!

My question is what next…? It’s been a few years since I bought a dropper that didn’t come with a bike.  I have had brand x droppers, which are OK (but had to return under warranty) I like the OneUp but no one stocks them it seems and unsure about the lever, crank bros I wouldn’t touch unless it was pedal shaped, Fox looks bloody expensive….

Also where the hell are people buying the oneups from in the U.K, Evans have them listed with £30 off but for preorder and I just don’t actually see them ever turning up with what’s going on there.  Plus I need a post sooner rather than later

What remote did you use with the OneUp? Is the standard remote any good?

    russyh

Birdlip is the top of the A417 project hill! So you could always pop along there.  It’s also next to Cranham and painswick which is Ok, albeit local knowledge is ideally needed oh and FOD is only 35 mins away too

Do you need to carry the lever with you then?

    russyh

As per my original post I have had several Brand X droppers and killed one.  It’s an option but want to listen to other options.  Not sure about the revive, have heard (maybe unfairly) that they can sometimes need the bleed function to be operated mid use when uplift trailers are being used? Transfer is great I’m sure the lever is rubbish I’m told and wolftooth levers seem dear making the whole setup quite expensive

Thanks Geex, just ordered one and the remote to collect within the hour.  Sick of crappy battery packs flapping around the bike and been looking for a unit which has a remote to compliment my Diablo.

To be honest I’m under illusion that that lunchbox is anything other than a 35year old designed toy. It’s compromised but bloody good fun.  Bought as I always wanted one desperately as a kid (lad across the road had a Clod buster, lunchbox and grasshopper)

so I don’t really care if it’s not as good as modern trucks, I love it and so does my little boy.  It’s always going to be a bottomless pit of a project to customise and improve, which is what I love about it.  It’s just so much fun for not a load of money

I hear a lot of people take their cars to one of those mileage ‘correction’ places for this sort of thing

Dont do this!   Manufacturers, lease and finance companies are already all over this and if the catch you they will persue, which is becoming easier!  Basically it’s commiting fraud.

OP I would VT the vehicle now, you may be lucky with damage recharge.  Consumer finance companies are more lenient than lease providers due to slightly different regulation.  That said it maybe worth getting some of the items that fall outside of Fair ware and tear sorted before returning

    thanks rusty, some weekend research!

roughly how long does it take to build one of these?  is it a couple of evenings or several weeks?

need to plan it so it’s ready to play on Xmas day

It it took me two evenings, as a complete novice to build it.  Painting took longest due to drying times.  Oh and programming the shitty ESC!

Rustyspanner – anything you want pictures of?  It’s a fairly vanilla lunchbox build, albeit it now has the Ampro 5th shock mod, LED lightning and full bearing kit.  Just about to order some 75mm oil filled shocks for it, but undecided what brand to go for.  Oh and a Tamiya sport tuned motor.  In have not really broken anything, scuffed it up a fair bit from jumping it at the local skate park.  The crappy design of the lunch box and comedy undanpened suspension make it a pretty comical experience!  I will make some more upgrades as stuff brakes, you can buy some lovely anodised alloy after market kit for them!

Diablo here, run them for last few years.  Great lights and the tap function is brilliant IMO as is the program function.  I can set the light so I maximise power based on how long I will be riding for.  I use it with a One23 bar mounted light which is also fantastic, but I need to sus a better way to mount the battery!

This is getting more bizzare…the orange stage 4!!! My mate has one but it’s barely sold by orange I’m told!  Never seen a thread about it, never seen one in the flesh other than my mates.

I’m local to 417 and have never been!  It’s a business, which I get but boy do they charge.  Plus all but one of my mates who have ridden there say it’s a bit meh! Of the group of people I ride with none bother.  Seems a shame, I always liked the idea of an after work uplift, burger and a beer but just remembered when looking falling over at the price!

We generally ride early on Sundays (8:30 – 9am) happy to guide you around for the morning if im  available.

Map wise, its very hard to work out where the trails are as they shoot off all over the place, unless you stay by the centre.  If yo uhave access to Strava and a garmin, the easiest thing to do is pinch someones route.  I have helped a few out with this.  Basically download the GPX and upload to a garmin, then follow turn by turn.

The downhill trails are all pretty similar to BPW reds in my opinion. some can be more of a handful in the wet.  But there are no really big features, GBU being the trail with the biggest drops etc in my experience.  If you are going to do the Downhill trails then book an uplift is my advise.

Been meaning to post this up for a while.  Wife kindly bought me this for my birthday, after talking to my 8 year old about how much i wanted a Tamiya lunchbox back in the day.  A quick google to show him, alerted me to the relaunch of some 80’s classics.

Great birthday present, built up with my 8 year old. We upgraded to ball bearings from the off and fitted front lights.  We have smashed the thing around the local park and its silly fun!  Couple of upgrades on the table now.  A Tamiya sport tuned engines, suspension and 5th shock upgrades are a must!  Looks like i have a bit of a gearbox issue as well, which will likely lead to more upgrades.  Its a compromised design and crap by modern day standards, but its amazing fun!  both building and driving!

Way marked stuff, i think you will struggle for two days.  In fact there is only the red and blue trails there which you can do in a few hours, then you are left with the downhill stuff.  Which is great, but without an uplift the pedal/push up iis boring as hell.

My suggestion is book a day with a guide, such as https://www.fodmtb.com/guided-rides

Completely worth the money and you will get to sample some of the best hidden off piste trails available!  Alternatively depending when i may be able to help for the day.

Evans always seem to do a spectacular job of not stocking anything I want!  No proper tyres, bars tools or anything.  It’s actually impressive how they have literally nothing of any use in stock! I even popped in the other day to buy a bottle cage, usually a big selection…not this time no side load cages in sight.

What are you riding around FOD?  That will greatly swing your tyre choice.  If you are taking him around the way marked trails like the blue or launchpad, its like most trail centres so loads of grip.  If you are riding some of the off piste or down hill trails then i would suggest an Ardent and trail boss are pretty bad tyre choices for the front.  Magic Mary seems to be the front tyre choice year round for me and my buddies.  Alternating the rear based on conditions.  Spesh Butcher or hillbilly and purgatory may be a bit of a compromise.  In my experience its always best to run a slightly more aggressive front tyre and something faster and lighter on the rear.  FOD is not hard on tyres at all, so something with good front grip in mud is preferable and something fast clearing for the rear.

Thanks for the help.  I had dropped TF an email asking same question!  Should’ve known to ask the forum first, my google skills were obviously not wildly off track either as I picked nothing up.  Also saves me dropping the lowers and internals myself.

    cheers

Depending on size, the metal bolt looks like a road bike Caliper bolt  and the other black items look like cable outer ends.

Yes, I had this issue.  Main issue being my poor technique and the bike being too short for me! It was this amongst some other issues with 29ers that made me switch back to 650b

Same as me!  Crossmax Enduro (the yellow fellas) were without a shadow of doubt the single worse wheelset I had ever owned!  As a result I would never buy another set of Mavic MTB wheels

oh and me other mate with eagle had the same problem as me.  He upgraded his Gx mech to a XO1 which he thinks is massively better built!

    russyh
    Free Member

I found it works fine but the mech is super fragile and given it dangle precariously low is susceptible to knocks!  I managed to scoop a twig up into the jockey wheels, which normally would not have been an issue but i could never get the mech to go down the cassette again afterwards.  It was warrantied, but to me it always feels like a ticking time bomb.  Oh and the chain falling off the top jockey is bloody annoying.  Not sure i would bother again, just wish Shimano would hurry up with their new systems.
