We got into the sport, but tried desperately to get into the full Enduro.  The Sunday event is frustrating particularly with people well out of their depth.  But also Ard Rock themselves don’t really have an interest in it, basically just breaking down the complex etc.  I do wonder if some people enter the Saturday event because they want to get home Sunday at a reasonable time..for us driving back to Gloucestershire it’s a long, long day!

Regardless happy to get in to at least the event.

Well that was a fairly horrendous experience! Up at 5:30, laptop sorted, brew and iPhone next to me with clock showing actual time – refresh at 6:30 on the nose…click full enduro tickets x4 get message saying reduce ticket number…then bang by about 6:30:35 fully gone, same as sport, tried again at 6:45 same thing crappy message finally got us in for the sport at about 6:50! Gutted we couldn’t get into the main event as last time we did the sport by the time you arrived back the village was half packed up and you felt like a third class citizen.  But super chuffed to get it!

If you are on about the Bikehut 1600lumen one why not post this in the already massive thread

Wouldn’t say the snakeskin is more ‘flimsy’ then exo to be honest.

Thanks for the 2.6 links, but I’m after a 2.35 guys.

You know that point where you look like a massive bellend on a forum…?  I do.

    😂😂. Yep, don’t worry mate!

incidentally how do you find the soft compound on the rear?  Draggy at all? Any signs of wear yet?

If anyone is interested I have had this response from Schwalbe U.K.

    Dear Russ
Your email to Schwalbe has found its way to me hear at Schwalbe UK, great to hear from you. With regards to the Hans Dampf for 2019 I am afraid a 27.5 x 2.35 size is only available in Soft compound: https://www.schwalbe.com/en-GB/offroad-reader/hans-dampf.html For a Speedgrip option in 27.5 x 2.35 you would be looking at either Nobby Nic or Fat Albert rear. It is worth noting that the centre tread of both Speedgrip and Soft are very similar in terms of rolling properties so, a slightly more inflated rear tyre in soft will still roll quite well for example.

    Kind regards
    Will

I’m not too sure, my orange soft Mary has rounded off fairly quickly so the thought of a rear makes me twitch a little.  Will give it a go….makes you wonder what JamJ has fitted, it can’t be a speedgrip 2019 HD that’s for sure

Northwind, it’s like a special brake function at absolutely the moment you don’t need it.  Oranges response to my mate was ‘fill your shock with tokens’ absolutely shocking.  As to my last Orange Five, I would’ve been happy with it being noisy if they had put the seat tube on square.

Don’t worry about it being noisy be more worried about the tyre hitting the seat tube at full compression.

But the old Trailstar is here and there “in sale” for very little money.

Its the new tread pattern I want! As per MTB op! Old ones are ten a penny.

I’ll drop Schwalbe an email to see if and when they will be supplying U.K. with speedgrip, car less at minute else I would pop into LBs

Alex, yes both myself and my mate with the same tyre have found it a little pushed in the wetter stuff.  It’s certainly better than the old one and not disastrous, but I much prefer the old Hans Dampf so hoping the new one packs up less.  I would keeep for the summer but at that point a rock razor is a much better option.  Tyres are a personal thing mind, I have some riding buddies who are very quick indeed and ride with nobby nic front and rear all year!

I would prefer the link please!

Alex I have a new Nobby Nic on the rear and find it fairly awful in anything other than the dry.  Hence the new HD. JamJ are you sure it’s a 650b new tread HD?  I can only find old model in apex compounds or super gravity versions.

See this is the annoying thing!  I emailed the subscription team a month ago asking about my subscription, my mother in law has purchased me one.  But we have not received anything.  In fact that was a month ago

I’m getting bombarded with Ads, which I believe were not meant to harass P users!  It’s making the website almost unusable on a mobile device now.

Disappointed to not see an apology from the OP, maybe even ask mods to update the title?  I’m not a fan of SSC but they don’t deserve to get a kicking for a product they didn’t actually ever supply

Alwayss been shocking with money, or so I thought.  It’s only now in my late 30’s I have started saving.  That said my wife and I have spent plenty of it on the house recently and made a significant dent in our rainy day account, but we will quickly recoup this and it’s nice not having any loans other than our mortgage

Thanks for the tiger shed suggestion!  We are just talking about the next phase of our house project, we have a lovely insulated powered summer house which is well past it’s best so I want to replace it with a storage shed of decent quality!  They look fab!

I have a 2016 3 series touring (in fact I have another on it’s way to me now as I change jobs). I fit one bike and all my kit in easy with the front wheel removed.  I can get 2 bikes in with the wheels removed and the forks tucked down in the well between the front and rear seats.  These are big bikes as well – Santa Cruz Hightower (what else in a BMW) and an intense tracer.

We are planning on going back next year!  Was planning on main event after the sport event felt like 3rd class citizens on the Sunday in 2017.  But suspect it will be difficult to get in so probably Sunday again.  Ha ha

Upgrade it obviously!…but will await posts about how suspension is wasted on kids and how it would be better putting your daughter on a diet rather than the bike ;-)

I have cracked a hope face plate, which was replaced under warranty.  I have also bent/twisted a stem in a crash.  Think it was an on one stem, but cant guarantee it.  Completely my fault as well.

So Oneup Dropper arrived fitted and used!  Boy what a lovely bit of kit.  The action is so smooth and light.  Well chuffed.  Wish they had a 170mm in stock now mind as i could’ve easily ran one even on a 19.5″ frame.

Always the stastandard response to these threads is ‘why not lose weight from your body’ which is absolutely relevant but annoying a response none the less!  My view is lose weight from both!  There is no doubt in my mind having ridden the same bike built light and heavy which one feels the best.  So my view is always, I will make my bike as light as possible (for context my bike is just over 30lbs) and try to lose weight myself.

No agreed, bit shoddy that you have to click through, especially on a light 4 times the price of the Halfords job.  In reality though for most people the 2 functions are enough in terms of night ride ‘juice’ different  kettle of fish I’m sure for those crazy guys that do the 24hr events.

I would love the ability to programme my light properly.  Maybe via a laptop or a phone.  I only really need a couple of settings.  I certainly don’t need some weird pulsing light function I get on the halford job.  Some of the settings on there remind me of night club lights from the 1990’s

    As I did

If you did you would’ve seen the picture of the beam pattern and answers on burn time.  I’m happy to answer questions and help out, in fact there have been at least 3 in depth reviews of this light now just in this thread.

    russyh

I know it’s not strictly relevant to the light in question, but I can’t believe the makers of cheap and not so cheap bike lights – yes, Exposure, I mean you – still haven’t managed to devise a switching method that doesn’t mean constantly cycling through increasing light levels to make a downward adjustment. Have I missed something. It just seems odd

My diablo is programmable, with tap function.  I use a mode where I have dipped and full power which gives me about 2 1/2hrs use and mode change by punching myself on the head.

You make a good point though, wouldn’t it be nice if you could program a lights power and function rather than work off a set of preset options? For me the function click through on the Bikehut light is the worse thing about it. Albeit it’s not a deal breaker! For such a tiny amount of money I think it’s great value

My point is that, a photo has been taken of the beam pattern, the real life usuage on burn times has been discussed.  The light is a £50 Halfords special, I’m not sure what more information people can give!

My my suggestion would be for people to buy one and if they find it’s not fit for purpose, return it!  It’s from Halfords for heavens sake not some moody online retailer!  Both geex and I have posted our thoughts, answered questions and even taken time to post photos.  Hence where I’m coming from.   Sorry if that comes across grumpy, but it feels that sometimes people need to read a whole thread before posting!

I’m with Geex here, I took a beam pic.  Posted it then was asked for more…like it wasn’t good enough! I will likely take some more but having to mess around loading them with this crappy forum software is a pain! I would say if you are concerned about burn times, beam patterns blah blah, this isn’t the light for you.  It’s a £55 halford light ffs!

I will say though that for me, this light coupled with ab exposure diablo.  Is as good as any combo I have used.  The battery is perfectly acceptable for 2 1/2 hour night rides if you cycle the modes (does anyone really ride with full beam on for 3hrs). It offers a wonderful clear wide, white light (see my picture of the beam) it’s good enough for Fast FOD off piste trails in the pitch black, so would suggest it’s good enough for weekly night rides pretty much any where.

Was there something wrong with the one I posted on page 1?  Happy to take more? But can’t see how much different it will be?  A forest in the dark with a light on?

Maybe just me then, I ran it with an exposure diablo on my helmet.  Just found it chattering over proper rooty sections, basically the rubber strap can’t dampen the movement.  It’s not a problem so to speak, just distracting.  Really not wanting to come across as I’m moaning, I’m really not! I’m super chuffed and with some slight modification I think can be improved!  But £55 can’t really go wrong

    russyh

The rear port is so you can charge from the light.  Basically you can also use the light to charge your phone.  Not really a function I’m ever likely to use I’m afraid

    russyh
    Free Member

I use rubber strap and additional rubber support boot pulled as humanly tight as possible.   I didn’t find an issue on features more on rooty/rocky chatter where the movement is enough to ‘wobble’ the light.  It’s not the end of the world, just prefer it didn’t do it.  As it’s distracting and forces my sight from looking ahead slightly. Hence looking for better clamp options.

I hope this thread doesn’t turn the way of the last one where Brant Personally gave money to someone displaying dickiah behaviour and a big grudge!

I’m not guessing this, I worked in finance for a long time.

Likewise, in fact still very much linked…19years in total….including working for a motor finance provider, major dealer groups and vehicle remarketers.  I still present each year at a suppliers conference around the used vehicle market for one of the biggest consumer finance providers.  Albeit I’m now changing jobs! Not that this needs to be some kind of internet peacocking session!

regardless, the advice I gave is valid.  Not for people hell bent on just getting a low APR more around understanding the cost over the term borrowed.  Flat rate of interest per year over the term plus fees! Tells you how much you will payback vs borrowed and APR won’t do this unless, as you say, you use an online calculator tool.  It has Nothing to do with the CCA.  Yes a high APR means you are paying more interest, but like I say understanding the flat rate in my experience is just as, if not more important.

I still stand on my statement…Personally I would borrow the money elsewhere.
